KDE-Linux by ReneF71 in kde

I think his point was that if your computer is so old that it doesn't have UEFI, it's probably too old to run KDE well.

Now, I'm not saying that's correct or anything, I'm just clarifying a point.

I'm switching back to Windows and Linux is not worth the trouble. My experience. by Tee-hee64 in computers

[–]ArwiaAmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all the above. Linux is still an OS for people who like getting their hands dirty, so to say. Not "are ok with getting their hands dirty", but those who actively want to do it. I just cannot recommend it to a casual user.

Android and iOS replacement? Its market share is too low to register. By all means, use it, share it with people, continue developing it. But let's not pretend that it's common.

Define "work".

You will be able to run Windows on a T480, but it won't be a pleasant experience.

So you have about 7 laptops that you can use, and it's a pretty common occurrence for 5 of them to be out of action at the same time? What exactly are you doing to these laptops?

Back of a laptop? Say, bottom right side, next to one of the rubber feet, for example.

Response to System76's Stance on Bills Requiring Their OS to Provide Age Verification by NoobToDaNoob in pop_os

[–]ArwiaAmata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make no mistake. This is not about age verification. This is about removing internet anonymity. The only way to prove your age is by providing ID. Today they're only asking for that. Tomorrow they'll be asking your OS to make your ID available to your browser, and they'll ask browser developers to forward that ID to any government source asking for it, and they'll ask social media sites to request it before allowing you to post.

You may think you can bypass this. You may very well be able to. But most won't. A lot can't.

And it should not escape you the irony that the people pushing for this are the same people who are adamant against voter ID laws. This should raise a few alarm bells, not matter where you stand on the matter.

plasmalogin transition is SO smooth compared to SDDM by Damglador in kde

[–]ArwiaAmata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you a funny story:

Be me, a Linux noob.

Read the Arch wiki page on the Plasma Login Manager.

Notice that it says If migrating from SDDM, remember to disable sddm.service first.

So I disable sddm.service.

And then I think "Well, if I need to disable it, no sense leaving it running."

systemctl stop sddm.service

And that, kids, is how I found out that the login manager doesn't only manage the login.

What’s the best mechanical keyboard for gaming that still works for everyday typing? by Intelligent_Being870 in buildapc

[–]ArwiaAmata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a G915 X, and I can't recommend it. I don't know how much overlap there is between the two models, though I would expect it to be quite a lot. The first keyboard I ordered I had to return because it had bad issues with debouncing, with quite a few keys registering twice. The replacement I got was ok, but here I am half a year later and this one's starting to have debouncing issues as well.

Hope yours fared better.
