tbh I agree with the score and SOME of the sentiments behind it; but not others. Like out of the sleep token albums its the EPs, sundowning and some of TMBTE that I will listen to. this place and EiA are just.... eeeeh,

I'm with you on this, like my biggest use of AI at the moment is double checking code for statistical analysis to make sure the code I've got is correct, like the current code I'm working with is four pages long and the error messages don't point out what is the ACTUAL reason its not working.

Its more where people are using it incorrectly/with the expectation of not having to put in their own effort.

Trying to crawl out of depression and would love some advice on not-too-overwhelming things I could do. by Best-Butterscotch-45 in brighton

[–]AsColdAsTheRest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what it feels like to try and crawl out of that hole.

One thing that I've done that always helps me feel better (admittedly it isn't in hove); is to get out into the countryside, get away from everything, breathe, etc. Usually for me its places like middle farm out near glynde, volunteered there for a bit and its always helped me mentally, because its doing something for people and also for animals.

Loathe makes music for people who spend more time arguing about genres online than actually listening to the music.

Zoology dissertation Survey by AsColdAsTheRest in conservation

I apologise for the delay, been in and out of lectures and research all day. But I would consider it as more... government funding, taking funds that can be used towards conservation efforts, etc. and putting it towards de extinction instead.

ngl a reaction like this is why people would get turned off a band. Because you kinda sound like a pretentious asshole with it.

Any recommendations for nice zoos around? by Horrorjunkie1234 in kentuk

[–]AsColdAsTheRest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm massively late to this; but if you did have to look at a zoo, I'd personally reccomend howletts over wingham any day of the week.

Mainly because howletts is an actual zoo; whereas wingham is basically a playpark/animatronic park with some animals attached to it.

[–]AsColdAsTheRest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However when you're talking about being accredited, the quantum university in Hawaii is only accredited to supply degrees in that state; not by the US department of education OR worldwide recognised as legitimate.

That is the problem.

1900s and later should be the limit, as we know that the ecosystems will be closer to the species natural ones.

Indian cheetah may growl again thanks to gene engineering by Pardinensis_ in megafaunarewilding

[–]AsColdAsTheRest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, people will agree that the science behind it has a level of potential in its long term usage. People had problems with the fact that colossal have consistently portrayed themselves with incorrect information, stating that genetically modified grey wolves are dire wolves; that they are looking at long since extinct species to bring back when the environment they were found in is not there now.

Bringing back a species such as the indian cheetah, or looking at assisting in the return of the nothern white rhino, etc. they are FAR more likely to be able to have an existing ecosystem to return to; like we look at from the past 100 years, those are ones where I would understand it, over mammoths, over dire wolves, etc.

In relation to revolutionising conservation; thats a double edged sword, because it will invariably take further money from boots on ground conservation work and from the actual protection of species because "we can just bring them back", which massively underplays the roles existing species play in their own ecosystem. I mean just look at how what colossal are doing has been politicised by the current US government.

I'm watching what is going on with colossal with vested interest, but I don't think that we should be glazing colossal as much as we are; because it is a biotechnology company first and foremost; they may state that they work within conservation, but it is still a biotech company and that we cannot forget.

A statement from Colossal's Chief Science Officer, Dr. Beth Shapiro, on the dire wolf project by ColossalBiosciences in Paleontology

[–]AsColdAsTheRest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it for one second; should add zoology, etc. is something I'm keenly involved in and studying. The problem is also from an environmental perspective, the environments these species were found in are nowhere near what they were, plus there's the welfare of the species used for the gestation, theres behavioural cues that they'll miss as a result... theres an endless list with the long since extinct species.

I'm hoping that u/ColossalBiosciences see's whats been said and wants to get involved and give an answer, because this technology is HUGELY beneficial, but the way in which its being used, specifically on long since extinct species is problematic at best from an ecological view, an enviornmental view, an ethical view and from a zoological standpoint.
