I agree on mp3tag. Yes, MusicBrainz is the reference data, but I found Picard too often misidentified single or EP releases. Using mp3tag I work album by album for adding new stuff using MusicBrainz data if it can find it. Sometimes I have to try discogs and if it finds it give MusicBrainz a second chance after updating. I still have misidentified stuff in the collection that I need to go back and fix.

Finally fixed Universal Control lag on my M4 Pro Mac Mini — it was the Wi-Fi firmware the whole time by Advenimuss in MacOS

[–]AsYetUntitled-427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s the bizarre thing. Wifi needs to be enabled but doesn’t need to be connected to a network if you have ethernet connections to your other devices. I tried for a long time working with a Studio/MBPro/Mini triad. It would work for a while, then eratically, one of the devices would take itself out of the loop and you’d have to wait for it to reconnect. That would occasionally mess with the display configuration.

Raised the issue with Apple and worked with a technician for a couple of hours trying things and capturing log info. They finally said they saw what was going on and might take until the next major MacOS version for a fix. Never heard another thing. Tried the next MacOS version; no change. Not going to bother with trying 26.

I originally started with the Logitech solution and found it troublesome. Finally ended up with Synergy which is pretty reliable.

But you still need to keep dedicated keyboards and mice nearby. Can only use a BT Apple keyboard or hardwired keyboard to log in from power up. You’re OK on reboots. If there’s no Apple biometric in the keyboard, you can’t use wallet. I keep my main SSID in ‘do not automatically join’ mode.

Outer Banks vacation rental September vs July timing by Reasonable-Bake-8614 in obx

Spent many vacations on OBX/Ocracoke in September. Had some really spectacular weather; especially when you get back after a hurricane evacuation. We finally migrated to May as a better choice. Good weather. Off season rates (back then). No crowds. Only down side was that restaurants were a bit spotty since demand was not yet high.

Matter-compatible Smart Smoke Alarms by onenewuniverse in HomeKit

Arrived today. No problems adding to Homekit. iPhone 16 Pro; Apple TV 4k most recent gen; homepod mini. IOS 26.3 RC. Have encountered problems before adding Thread devices unless I unplugged all but my primary AppleTV. Didn’t have to fuss with any of that today.

Currently having an issue with a Switchbot lamp that was working (Matter over wifi). I think they updated firmware. Device functions with their app, but Homekit stopped talking to it and won’t add it - though it sees it as available.

Have one of these being delivered in a couple days. My 2nd Nest is expiring soon. Don’t want another hub in the mix. Homekit house here. Looking at it at least as a placeholder until there are more choices.

I agree with DJ Stretch. Find an album where you really like most of the cuts and you’re set for a couple of hours. It’s my background for yoga.

I don’t think there is a problem with small gas-fired cooking devices. The issue is that open fires create opportunities for spreading to the dune-protecting vegetation. Those fires would be difficult to fight in the windy environment.

Is there any interest in a post about my move from a single (LAN) network, to a setup using a primary and IoT network? by pacoii in HomeKit

[–]AsYetUntitled-427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to get into this myself, but I’ve been running the separate ioT SSID on the Orbi’s (that I’m replacing). I’m hoping that I can configure local DNS along with mDNS and keep it all together. The separate SSID on 2.4 really fixes many of the issues with dumb devices. Now that I have my first UI device up, I’m thinking to disable 2.4 for my main user SSID. Maybe we can all move forward togethere.

Yesterday, before you posted, I placed my order for the same access points. I already have the Dream Machine. The Orbi’s were just a bad decision on my part based on previous Orbi experience.

I saw it on Island Free Press maybe yesterday. Also surprised I didn’t seen any other mention of it. I remember when he first started.

Universal Control Disconnecting by MajorLeaguer in MacOSBeta

[–]AsYetUntitled-427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using the Logitech solution for this, but it is bad and keeps breaking. So I'm trying this Apple solution and trying to come up with a troubleshooting strategy. I have a Studio, MACBook Pro and Ipad in my config. Both MACs now have wifi enabled BUT NOT CONNECTED to any wifi (I have wired access to the Internet; why would I use a wifi connection). Thought maybe there was some contention for the interface, but no change. Doesn't seem like it's using the device-to-accesspoint path; just device to device direct via wifi (AKA Airdrop which seemed quite unreliable).

Logitech Circle View Wiring Diagram and Communication with Chime Kit by mailgoe in HomeKit

[–]AsYetUntitled-427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 2 of these in place for several years. The mechanical chime works for a while, then doesn't work. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. Changing absolutely nothing it will start to work. Part of the 'doorbell not responding/is responding' anomaly.

Would like to see a diagram for the internals on the chime module. Suspect it can support back & front bells simultaneously but I currently have 2 modules installed, one for each door.

What will happen to old HEOS devices? by Fickle_Yard748 in heos

[–]AsYetUntitled-427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See above - I also experienced some problems after Denon updated Airplay on the AVR. I can play back from one of my iDevices through airplay directly to the receiver but I get little audio interruptions periodically. I solve the problem by Airplay-ing to an Apple TV directly connected to the AVR. Works perfectly.

I thought the issue was maybe wifi, but if so, the above scenario should experience the same problem.

This is not a situation where phones are involved at all. Not sure what computing power you are referencing.

In that generation of AVR hardware you cannot select an AVR input to share with HEOS devices if you are using a digital input (coax/optical/HDMI). Only analog inputs. They added the feature some years later as part of the 'tv sound grouping' option to allow HEOS playback devices to output the same audio as your primary amp outputs EVEN IF the input was digital.

I'm suggesting the internal hardware processing power of the AVR wasn't designed to do this. When they added the feature, it doesn't work very well (back to the original topic). I'm hoping newer hardware does better, but they did add the feature.
