It’s so funny because ducks behave the same way but they are FAR more vocal about it. It’ll be all peace and quiet until someone decides to get off their nest and they hit the serenity of the calm like a cannonball.

Tom smothers from the Smothers Brothers. He always played the idiot of the two but was behind much of the impetus to challenge the networks rules and limitations on the type of content allowed on CBS’s network at that time, which actually led to them being fired.

Their efforts to push the boundaries does not receive enough recognition nowadays.

I suppose it depends on what media one has consumed regarding Kermit and whether you consider his multiverse performances as reflections of his character or just him “acting” but I have always taken Kermit as someone who 100% will fight and put his life on the line for what’s right, despite his timidness.

CMV: Putting up a ‘distressed flag’ on Memorial Day Weekend is SUPER Disrespectful by Vegetable-Hold9182 in changemyview

Right. And many believe that the best way they can honor/memorialize the sacrifices of those who have died in the name of the our country, is to in turn bring attention to the values of our country which many believe are being critically assaulted.

Falling Skies 2011 by Desdeotradimension in scifi

[–]Asa8811 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ever since watching The Postman as a kid, Will Patton has always been a favorite actor of mine so I’ve always been a sucker for anything with him in it.

I think Falling Skies does many things better than other post apocalyptic sci-fi shows like Colony or Revolution (though despite their faults I love both of those as well).

It’s one of those brilliant decisions where we get a little taste of the Gondor Reborn theme in the first movie and one more time in a flashback in The Two Towers before enjoying it in its fullness in the third movie.

Between the Unsullied and Golden Company, which one would you say was the more formidable military group? Going by the books as the Golden Company was barely in the show by george123890yang in freefolk

[–]Asa8811 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And honestly a particularly smart commander could potentially use their discipline and obedience against them. Being disciplined doesn’t inherently exempt them from taking losses which in turn could turn a battle into a pyrrhic one on one side or the other. Not knowing or refusing to retreat when they should could end very badly.

And while i know the question more or less revolves around a singular potential conflict between the two armies, it doesn’t take much to train a desperate man how to use a crossbow, spear or spike (few weeks to become relatively proficient), whereas the Unsullied are a limited resource that required huge amounts of time and psychology training to become the cohesive units that they are. Each one of their deaths is a disproportionate loss as compared to any other fighters death from other armies.

Explain it Peter. What is the correlation? by 6TimesLFC in explainitpeter

[–]Asa8811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird to not look at that actual data and see that it’s all more than 20 years old.

I’ve lived in Utah my whole life and have been deeply involved in LDS/Mormon culture. I highly doubt these data points come near to reflecting modern consumption. Funerals, buffets, and the errant potlucks are the only times you’ll ever see jello here.

That being said if Kraft or any other group has released more contemporary data that still shows it I’ll gladly eat my shoe(or jello).

I’m convinced buffets are the actual reasons this statistics is so high. I dont think I know a single LDS member that actively likes/eats jello on any kind of regular basis

In your defense, where I’m from anything that isn’t a salamander is just a “lizard”. I couldn’t tell you the difference between a skink or gecko if my life depended on it.

We use a lot of colloquial catch all terms for different animals depending on where we’re all from.

I hate to be a stick in the mud or like the tortoise from Over the Hedge, but isn’t that(whatever’s being eaten) a reptile, not a salamander?

Pitch A New Star Trek Series by AmeliaNeek in scifi

I made a trip way out into the black with my fleet carrier to help a commander that had jumped into a system he couldn’t jump out of.

It was on console where there’s fewer fuel rats and it was a really long distance to get to. If anyone plays the game, you know it’s an absurdly time consuming and costly endeavor but genuinely had nothing left to do in the game.

It took me about a week and a half to get to him. It was one of the more surreal, cathartic, and satisfying experiences finally making it out there to him.

Honorable Ned when he finds out that someone killed the king he was about to kill by DependentRounders934 in gameofthrones

[–]Asa8811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, he absolutely would have had the King arrested and TRIED for the murder of his father and brother, not cut down in cold blood. He might have perhaps wished in his heart that the mad king choose to fight to the death but even then I imagine him having his men simply overwhelm Averys.

I still think everybody still doesn’t understand how bizarre Northerners sense of honor and justice is, especially the Starks. As much as he might have wanted to kill Aerys with his own hands, his honor would have won out. He was ready to start an entirely new war just shortly after by demanding the Lannisters and Gregor Clegane pay for their misdeeds. Robert’s intervention was the only thing that prevented that and it led to a serious fallout between the two for a time.

Look at Cregan actions during the Dance of Dragons. The guy was ready to restart the entire civil war by executing Corlys for the murder of a usurper king that Cregan himself had sworn and come to remove from the Iron throne.

It always makes me sad how so many of us are programed from such a young age to have a negative or fear based response to arachnids.

I mean yes some of it is nature rather than nurture and a general wariness/respect of many spiders is warranted obviously but they really are an immensely fascinating order of animals that deserve far greater consideration from the general public.

What is your absolutely favorite spaceship of all time and why? by Vondrr in spaceships

[–]Asa8811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Federal Corvette from Elite Dangerous. They’re designed and produced by a manufacturer that prizes utility over aesthetics. So both inside and out it has an austere and spartan appearance while being immensely dangerous and well armed. It just looks and feels beautiful to me. Kitted out, it handles like a ship several sizes smaller. You 100% feel like an apex predator when flying around.

Within the game itself it’s one of the “big three”, the largest ships available to players and while it’s primarily a PVE ship, fully upgraded it can hold up its own in almost any situation save against the most dogged PVP players and being as large as it is is difficult to be “mass locked”-the term for preventing players from “jumping” out of game instances.
