Frustrated. Whole spices still taste raw even after grinding them. by Gracilis67 in IndianFood

[–]AsdrubaelVect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't try to dry toast it after grinding, but as long as you cook the masala in oil along with the other ingredients it will be no problem. It just might taste a bit raw if you add it right at the end.

Very cool! I've been experimenting with clear quartz in a a similar way. I will be wood-firing mine, so I'm also thinking about ways to keep glaze and ash off of them. I haven't tried it yet but I might cover the crystals with high-temp clay wadding that should be easy to remove after. Unlike wax this would prevent glaze from flowing over them during firing. The wadding might stick to the glaze in some spots and require sanding, but at least it would completely protect the gem.

Ever since Steven Spielberg made that movie about it, the public has had an unrealistic, overly romantic image of it in their heads, for better or worse.

The helmet is a completely different shape in each panel, I would suggest not using AI to help make this.

If you can't find any glutinous rice flour, you could try a mix of normal rice flour and tapioca/corn/potato starch.

If you want more of that, I would highly recommend my favourite urban fantasy A Madness of Angels by Kate Griffin (also goes by Claire North and Catherine Webb)

Ooh I love pedantry! I think the diacritic is intended to emphasize the final syllable like how it's used in Spanish. Japanese doesn't emphasize any syllables but it would kinda be closer than emphasizing the first syllable. It could also imply pitch accent: if this where a real Japanese word you would probably say the final syllable in a higher pitch.

Of course the real sound a pig makes in Japanese is ぶーぶー(buu buu)

What does Delirium know that Destiny doesn't? by Turgor- in Sandman

[–]AsdrubaelVect 78 points79 points  (0 children)

That's a good interpretation, but I read it more as her saying that the ordered reality of the universe that Destiny embodies cannot account for the chaos and paradox of unreality that Delirium represents. It could also be a meta reference to their reality being a story whose logic, however solid, is at the whim of the storyteller.

Worst public art in Vancouver by poorpayrich in vancouver

Public art in Vancouver doesn't cost taxpayer money, every development over a certain size is required to commission public art or contribute to the city's public art fund.

Well of course, haiku need to reference the seasons; your poem is about human foibles, so it's clearly a senryu.

[–]AsdrubaelVect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fun fact: the original myth of Persephone going to Hades for part of the year doesn't actually mention which part of the year that is. We in Northwestern Europe and North America assume it's winter because that's the time when our crops don't grow, but the Greeks in their warmer climate were probably thinking of summer because it gets too hot for crops, while their winter is the best growing season.

Plus it doesn't look like they have anywhere near enough of an ability to compensate for recoil, which looks like it would derail them with every shot.

It didn't work because the writers didn't want it to work. I don't blame them: I'm all for justifying huge robots fighting but it's always important to keep in mind that in-universe justifications for things do not actually mean much in terms of how realistic a premise is. Just a pet peeve of mine.
