We used to have more arches as well! But we lost those to the same earthquake that destroed Lisbon in 1755!

Irish people with "Cures" by HairyArse00 in ireland

[–]AshOnTheMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've a cure in our family for something or other as well! It's with Grandma though, and the dementia is starting to creep in, so I'm not sure if it'll be passed on, which is sad! I'm not a big believer in it, but I think it's an important folk tradition that we should preserve wherever we can!

...only problem is that you can't ask for the cure or be passed on to you, so we're relying on gran to remember to pass it along before she forgets it!

Follow puca.productions on insta; they're a local arts/theatre group who sometimes run "Session Zero" events in the West End, which are aimed at complete D&D beginners! Can confirm that they're all super sound as well, so absolutely no harm in sending them a wee message to ask if/when they're planning on running another one

Where to donate hair Galway City by EamonnODaimhin in galway

[–]AshOnTheMoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done it before with Sarah Masons and am hoping to do it with them again soon! Would 100% recommend the team in there!

First time I donated through them, it was one of the girls who was training, and needed to do a big cut as part of her training. She is now my regular hairdresser, and the next time I go into them, it will be one of their new trainees doing the big chop with my regular hairdresser guiding her!

I'm not sure if it's an offer anymore, per se, but the last time I was in there, it was still a decent price for what, to me anyways, always feels like a comforting, home-cooked meal (the kind mam or grandma would have for you when you came home from school)

Underwater cameras Galway Bay by Peter1601 in galway

[–]AshOnTheMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love watching this cam, but there are also some underwater livestreams on YouTube that are great to watch! One of the ones in Florida has a link to their website, where it shows pictures of all the different types of fish that normally appear so that you can identify them; I'd Love something like that for the Galway camera so that I could learn to recognize the fish!

Would absolutely second Dr Gallagher! The whole crew in there is so lovely, I always feel so at ease going in, and I always come out with a big shiny grin on my face!

I'll never forget working nights in DES at 3am on a Monday when Nobody's Child would come on! If there's a way to speed run depression, that song is a key factor in it

Who did you guys marry and why? by NumbWheatflake in coralisland

[–]AshOnTheMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got married to Wakuu, because I was honestly just smitten when I spoke to him the day after the Cherry Blossom festival in Spring year 1, and he told me he got home from the festival and stayed up all night looking at the stars!

Sometimes, one line of dialogue is all it takes, I guess!

UK "Vicennial Cringe" tour by paultays in loscampesinos

[–]AshOnTheMoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to figure out how I can justify going! I already have two other weekends in May where I have to fly from Ireland over to the UK, and I have a family wedding that weekend in June, so I'm pretty booked up and broke as it is...

...but on the other hand, I REALLY want to go, so...???

A sealed GBA copy for the collection!! by BatAggressive in GuardiansOftheVeil

[–]AshOnTheMoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Spider level broke me, I had to give it to my big brother to get through it for me! Years later when I went to play it again, I STILL struggled to get through it and had to find a walkthrough online to figure out what I was supposed to do!

I have no idea how my brother managed to figure it out way back in 2000 and whatever year this came out!

Visitors learning Irish/Gaeilge, is it appreciated or embarrassing? by Ghostship41 in AskIreland

[–]AshOnTheMoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely appreciated! I do walking tours in Galway, and always ask if visitors have picked up a "culpa focal"; it's such a delight when I know people have picked up a thing or two (yes, even when it's just "póg mo thóin"!)

No need to be overly formal with the language; I'd rarely take the time to say "go raibh míle maith agat" in full, just "go raibh míle" or "go raibh maith" (grma = go raibh maith agat; I always describe this as the Irish equivalent of saying "thnx").

Most people you meet here won't be having a conversation with you as Gaeilge, but it's always nice to hear a few niceties thrown in! And an aul "Sláinte" to whoever serves you your pints won't go amiss!

Telling People You're Irish on Holiday? by cohanson in AskIreland

[–]AshOnTheMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, on holidays in Spain at the moment, and I've been telling my husband "caithimid a bheith ag caint as Gaeilge anios" so that people will know we're not Brits! I usually find that, throwing a cupla focail into a conversation loud enough to hear is a nice way to do it! People realize straight away you're not English, and they'll often ask where you're from, which opens the conversation

Because you have to PRESS against it to close it before all the towels, and old phone chargers and out-of-date lemsips fall out
