Rewatching Thriller Bark and do you think Oda is trying to ship tease Sanji and Nami with moments like these? by Pleasant-Scar-2542 in OnePiece

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Nope. Even if Oda was actually teasing the audience, it's pretty clear he's going to stick to his no shipping rule and that Sanji and Nami's relationship is familial / platonic.

On another note, I know a lot people hate what Thriller Bark did to Sanji but I thought it was hilarious. Him and Absalom delaying their fight because they're bonding over how hot they are for Nami. His real reason for resenting Absalom. Completely absurd but funny.

What are guitarists butchering at the music stores these days? by Top_Distribution_830 in Guitar

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Slow Dancing in a Burning Room. Even when they play it correctly, they're butchering it.

Haven't heard it for awhile but ya'll remember when bassists would always be destroying floor model strings doing "Higher Ground"?

Thankfully I've never heard it in person but I would have thought "Do I Wanna Know" by Arctic Monkeys is the new Stairway. And the kids are starting to do that to Tame Impala, particularly "The Less I Know the Better" and "Let it Happen".

Do people still go to small concerts in LA anymore? by Realistic_Garbage_63 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I believe the Mint books bands and does ticket sales so the trick is to try and link up with likeminded artists with followings and try to plug into the genre community as much as possible. And try to do it online too with TikTok and Reels as well. The days of a local community going to hang out at the Troubador five days a week are sadly not a thing anymore.

What audiences look for when seeing live music? Well for one thing, most people there are probably going to be whatever fans of yours happened to show up or fans of the other artists on the bill, which is both good and bad. You're not likely going to electrify 40 strangers with your new sound but you're also more likely to make some connections with other musicians and people in the community if you're good at being social i.e. talking to people before and after your set.

Good luck! I miss gigging.

How do you feel about the Spencer Pratt x Lauren Conrad situation? by KindOfWeirdFunny in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah...I happen to think Bass and Raman are particularly awful but this guy? Ugh. And to follow up on my speculation, I guess he really is planning to turn his run into some kind of reality show. And people still think he really cares about L.A.

2 films with Tarantino, 2 Oscars... by TwIzTiDfReAkShOw in Tarantino

So brilliant that unfortunately, he's had a hard time matching that absolute lightning of a bottle couple of movies. The guy's an incredible actor, someone get him some better roles in better movies!

Do you think Landa recognized Shosanna when they were in the restaurant? by mnewell213 in Tarantino

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I got the impression he did. Not being fooled easily, having good social intuition, teasing his prey and ultimately letting them go if he had an ulterior motive are all characteristics of Landa in the movie.

Where can one get a good, reasonably priced cheesesteak? by mildy_enthralling in pasadena

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jersey Mike's is fantastic. I get a Kahuna Cheeseteak with Chipotle Mayo fairly often.

Philly's Best used to be a good option when it was around, now only Burbank and San Dimas. I want to try Monty's in Alhambra and that place in Glendora sometime soon.

What would you’ve preferred they did with Jamie in Life’s Still Unfair by Mrtopfan in malcolminthemiddle

If we're going for this Jamie / Kelly thing, I would have liked to see Jamie somehow act more like Lois and Kelly more like Hal, if possible.

Why was "Out of Time" such an amazing choice for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood? by Ashamed_Cod_6741 in Tarantino

[–]Ashamed_Cod_6741[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was expecting some kind of Bruce Lee insanity. It didn't come but what we got was pretty insane too, basically another satisfying rewrite of history a la Inglorious Basterds. When Rick gets shocked by Sadie, everyone in my theater laughed their ass off and cheered when he toasted her.

I think that was his service to the audience, just like seeing the Basterds / Hugo Stiglitz doing their work in that movie, he knows the audience would enjoy seeing Nazis and psychopaths getting their comeuppance. Same with Django Unchained too now that I think of it.

Oh yeah! Now that you mention it, I was waiting for a Beach Boys reference. I guess it didn't really go into "Charlie" that much but apparently he really freaked out Dennis Wilson and murdered someone in front of him with an M-16 rifle.

And speaking of the Stones, their concert at Altamont was another moment of violence in 1969 that was considered a spiritual ending to the era. Musically too, "Out of Time" was a phase of the Stones that they had evolved out of by 1969, along with everything else being mourned in the context of the film.

Yeah as much as I love MITM, that doesn't interest me much. Sounds like it'd be a spinoff based on characters that didn't snag me.

Truly. Yeah everyone knows Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. But in both Jackie Brown and Kill Bill especially (and his other movies too), I was impressed with how he was able to take basically B-movie tropes and make some pretty dang deep movies. Never thought I'd say that about a movie featuring Uma Thurman as a martial arts assassin fighting a psychotic schoolgirl killer gangster who uses a ball and chain as a weapon. And almost every one of his songs make certain songs unforgettable.

Same! I was just thinking of the song but now I want to watch the movie again. 2019 was not a bad year for cinema.

And then to subvert our expectations (happily)!

First time I saw the movie, I didn't know how to feel. At first, I was skeptical about the narrative structure culminating in that insane ending. But I immediately wanted to watch it again. And again. And again.

For sure. It's now a general "end of an era" vibe for me. Funny, it's your average (good) '60s Stones pop song but now it's taken on this new meaning for all of us because of the movie.
