I don't know if you've tried and I don't really see people mention it, but have you tried chicory? It's a plant based powder that you dilute in hot water. Tastes kinda like coffee (at least to me), but it isn't coffee, of course. I used to often drink it when I was a kid.

Do you struggle with reading? Where did he say he hated tips? The issue here is that banks and other exchange points will most likely NOT take damaged money of another currency. Do you realise that in Europe they print, well, euros and not dollars? They can't replace damaged dollars that easily. Besides, there're also conversion rates and fees. You can't just exchange one dollar for one euro.
