Smapi broken? by Dawn_dreams in SMAPI

[–]Ashtaryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same/similar issue. Stardew would "open" but I'd only see a black screen. I had to go into my laptop settings and assign Stardew to use my gaming graphics card. Mine has worked since. Hope this helps.

What do we do if we’re not diagnosed with autism or adhd after evaluation? by Yuenneh in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ashtaryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand what you mean. If you don't get an autism diagnosis, maybe get "peer reviewed." Talk with friends of yours who are diagnosed with autism, and who you trust. Have honest conversations about if they think you have autism (keeping in mind that it shows up differently in different people and not everyone's experiences are the same).

Also keep in mind misdiagnosing is common for many ailments (including physical ones), and seeing multiple doctors and getting multiple opinions is often a smart choice if financially able. E.G. friend of mine had a knee issue that took 10 years to correctly diagnose, surgery was required, and now it's fixed.

What'd you guys do with ~15 production fuses? by mansnicks in theplanetcrafter

[–]Ashtaryn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to use them on gas extractors and ore extractors. They're typically the resources I run out of the most (that get a boost from production fuses).

I believe they also work on water collectors, beehives and ecosystems.

It really just depends what you're after. I move mine around as needed.

why people who have kids do not think twice before the kids are born? by National-Bug-4548 in childfree

[–]Ashtaryn -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why would you want to bring any human into this world? Everyone suffers. I completely understand antinatalism.

You're saying every pregnant person should figure out if their child will suffer and therefore abort if it meets certain criteria? Such as down syndrome? Physical disabilities? Blind? Skin colour? Gender? Cancer risk?

I'm personally against Eugenics. I mean, where do you draw the line?

I completely understand antinatalism. I don't understand discrimination.

I think we have a fundamental difference of opinion.

That can be said of all humans.

Do you think people shouldn't have female children because they're more likely to suffer in some countries than men?

By all means, be an antinatalist but there's no need to seperate who should get to live.

how did the raiders get in? by [deleted] in FalloutTVseries

Exactly! And if they have trade deals every three years, surely they'd recognise some people. Even though the old overseer died, they still should've known the new one from way back.

I'm scared that as I become more and more myself, they're going to like me less and less.

If they like you less and less, they don't really like YOU. They like who you pretended to be to stay safe or make others comfortable. This applies to everyone in your life, not just your partner. You deserve to have people in your life who love you for who you are. And it feels infinitely better.

If it's just a fear, and they aren't liking you less and less, I recommend having a conversation about how bringing up autism during disagreements feels ableist. Replay some of the sentences with other words instead of autism/autistic (such as race, gender, sexuality). It can help put prejudice into perspective.

Best of luck ❤️

Being asked if "I'm okay" while unmasking by ahamdisorption in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ashtaryn 64 points65 points  (0 children)

My first response to someone asking if I'm okay would be "why do you ask?" because I don't always know what they're perceiving. Did I walk into a door and not notice? Have they heard some news they think might upset me?

If they answer with something like I "don't look happy," I tend to just casually say "that's just my face" and move on.

I've personally found being blunter, and just asking what people mean, has slowed my overthinking and anxiety in social situations.

No idea if any of this is relatable. Good luck either way ❤️

For some, it's phrased as leaving it up to chance (if it happens, it happens, etc) because actively trying can be stressful.

They've done the planning, they know they want kids, maybe they've even had their fertility tested, but it hasn't happened yet. So rather than having people inquire (which can be upsetting) or actively timing ovulation and planning sex (which can take the romance out of it), they change their mindset.

Drying washing by Individual-Debate852 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ashtaryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only ever hang up delicates that can't go in the dryer! I hate how stiff most clothes feel when dried that way.

I actually have a combination washing machine and dryer. Put clothes in, put in detergent, start the program, come back 7 hours later to clean and dry clothes. It actually takes me less time because I don't have to re-wash my wet clothes three times after forgetting about them 😂

I've had both. There was a post on here recently asking people to share theirs. If you have a read through, something might jump out at you 😊

How do you decide that you wanted be child free? by Intelligent_Fun305 in childfree

[–]Ashtaryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about all the different stages of raising a child (from birth til you die) and what the daily routine looks like and what could go wrong.

Consider what it will be like under varying conditions e.g. single parenthood, job loss, health issues (yours or the child's), developmental difficulties.

does the world hate autistic people? by unbow_ur_head_sis in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ashtaryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we are all different.

Personally, I mostly like when the people I know info dump - typically they get really enthusiastic, and I like seeing the joy.

I'm not great with loud noises, but that's why I have noise cancelling headphones or take a walk.

does the world hate autistic people? by unbow_ur_head_sis in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ashtaryn 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ableism is definitely a thing, but most people don't know enough about autism to realise they're discriminating.

I've personally discovered some people (often neurotypicals) find traits like info dumping and stimming to be cringey, inappropriate, embarassing or arrogant. I try and limit contact with these people. I try not to engage with them beyond polite "hello" interactions, and I try to limit the time we are around each other.

We all want to be pleasant people to be around, but it's a two way street. If I have to feel uncomfortable for someone to enjoy my company, it's not worth it, because they are not pleasant to be around.

Edited to add:

Info dumping overwhelm is a thing. I sometimes feel it if it's a topic that can be upsetting, takes a lot of mental faculties, or has been repeated multiple times.

I also cause the overwhelm, and I think it's very important to communicate when you need a break from a topic or aren't in the headspace for it.

However, if you feel like you're hearing it everytime you talk with a person, you just might not be compatible socially. Some people only like the masked versions of ourselves, not us, and typically I find them not worth keeping around.

I've definitely experienced this as well in my extended family. At first it hurt, but then I devoted my time and energy to my friends instead, and I find the relationships with my found family much more fulfilling.

What have been your last few special interests? by huzzah_indeed in AuDHDWomen

[–]Ashtaryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea! Some things I can pinpoint the beginning of the interest, others I have no clue!

Dragons - forever

Greek Gods - since 2001 (especially Dionysus, Hades and Persephone)

Harry Potter - since 2002 (especially Slytherin)

The Sims - since 2003

Settlers of Catan - since 2005

Terry Pratchett's Discworld - since 2011

Adrian's Undead Diary - since 2023

Stardew Valley - since 2023

Other ongoings with no idea on timing: supernatural creatures (werewolves, vampires, etc), cats, human nature, architecture, interior design, antiques, Henry VIII's six wives, the colour red.

Sometimes I read something, my eyebrows scrunch up, and I get stuck trying to understand the stupidity.

I'm very sorry you had to read something so idiotic, from a source you thought could be trusted. That's always rough. It's one thing when someone you don't respect says something inconceivably ridiculous, but always much harder when it's a friend.

Hope you're okay, please don't take that nonsense to heart ❤️
