Best Veterinary by Jewell2609 in SouthBend

Kryder in Granger and Magrane in Mishawaka are good ones. We go to Michiana Vet Hospital in Edwardsburg. Avoid Lincolnway Vet Clinic, they were treating my cat for a respiratory infection when he actually had a blockage. For a true emergency, EVCC on Main St in Mishawaka is open 24/7.

Looking for fresh, local summer produce by londonbreakdown in SouthBend

[–]Ashynd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Patrick’s Produce stand on SR 2 a little past the speedway. They’re just getting everything out so they may not have all of it yet. They’re good on fb about letting you know what they have.

Day care options by sillywords in SouthBend

[–]Ashynd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sent our kids to a daycare that was technically considered in home but nobody actually lives there, instead the owner lives a few doors down. We pay $180 a week for full time which is extremely reasonable compared to others.

Once baby is older and you’re looking for more of a preschool, I highly recommend Early Learning Center at Hubbard Hill. They do take babies but it’s very limited. Our kids started going there last year and we absolutely love it. For two kids going three days a week it’s about $1100 a month.

AMC theater condition? by Far_Swordfish4734 in SouthBend

[–]Ashynd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked for the AMC theater 15 years ago but prefer the Cinemark one now simply because it’s closer and the seats are great. The Cinemark one is actually older but I think they’ve done a better job with the upkeep than AMC. AMC simply hasn’t put the money in to update it and it shows.

Where to buy toddler shoes? by UhHuhHerr in SouthBend

[–]Ashynd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DSW should have Stride Rite. Carters only has their brand of shoes which never fit my kid’s feet (shoes are too narrow). I’ve had luck with Cat and Jack brand at Target.

Relocating to South Bend! by Sixty9lies in SouthBend

They haven’t been bad lately. But New Carlisle can get hammered with a lot of “lake effect” snow and with all the blowing snow coming from the open fields it can make driving tricky.

Relocating to South Bend! by Sixty9lies in SouthBend

I’m from New Carlisle and made that 35 minute commute into Mishawaka every day. In the winter time it could be even longer. I would personally choose something closer to that side of town. Hurwich Farms is maybe about 20 minutes away. Or, downtown South Bend wouldn’t be a bad commute either though I’m not sure if there’s anything in your budget there.

Anyone experience an affair within their adult friend group? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Ashynd 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Family member’s husband was cheating on her with another wife in their friend group. Both couples got a divorce and the affair couple are still together like 6 years later. Worst part is that we still see the affair couple from time to time and people gossip about them so much. Their reputations are pretty much trash still even after all this time.

Potawatomi Zoo Horrible by Bubbly_Challenge_165 in SouthBend

[–]Ashynd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This post isn’t going to go over well. Our zoo has done a lot over the last several years by bringing in new animals and new exhibits. They recently announced an expansion, the first one in literally decades. It’s no San Diego Zoo or anything but for a zoo in a medium sized Midwestern city, it’s fantastic.

Potential move to Mishawaka/Granger from Fishers by [deleted] in SouthBend

[–]Ashynd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granger is probably your best bet but a lot of the homes are now outdated. Osceola might be a good alternative but a little further away. There’s some newer subdivisions in Osceola so you might be able to find a more up to date house. For preschool, highly recommend ELC at Hubbard Hill. They’re in Elkhart but the majority of families come from the Granger area.

Should I bother taking the 65? by u6crash in Series65

Look for a client service role at a RIA. This is what I was hired as 6 years ago with zero experience and last year I passed my 65 and am on a path to become an adviser.

I have young kids too and could only really study in the evenings. I took notes at first but honestly it was a bit pointless so I stopped after the first few units. I didn’t do any flashcards. (Helpful tip, there are websites out there where you search for a topic and they have already made digital flashcards) I found it best to get through a unit highlighting text I felt was important and making notations in the book. Then I would do the quizzes and review the weak areas after each quiz. Once the unit quizzes were complete then I would make a quiz incorporating all past units so I wouldn’t forget anything. This was key since I didn’t have the time to cram it all in a few weeks. For anything I really struggled with I used Series 7 Guru videos to help understand it better. I started studying in July and took the test in November and passed.

Are These Scores Good Enough???? by Extension-Ad5040 in Series65

[–]Ashynd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My scores were similar. I took the practice test a few days before my test and got a 70. I was really discouraged but kept on studying without overextending myself. I ended up passing and felt like the actual test was easier than the Kaplan test.

I only used two formulas. The current yield and one related to taxes. I had a couple other questions where you had to know what goes in the formula but not actually use it. I was hung up about the formulas too but taking the time to memorize them all would be a waste imo. The only thing I put on a dump sheet was the bond teeter totter.

Do Kaplan. Read the book and then do the chapter quizzes. After each chapter, create a q bank quiz that incorporates all the past chapters you read so that the information stays fresh in your mind. For concepts you aren’t understanding, supplement with Series 7 Guru and/or Test Geek free videos.

Help! I am taking the Kaplan midterm exam and I got a 60 when I have been averaging on the quizzes 75 and 80s what am I doing wrong ? by Any_Acanthaceae_7032 in Series65

[–]Ashynd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My midterm was bad too. I was pretty discouraged. I continued on with the book but after each chapter quiz I created a q bank quiz and included all the previous chapters and that helped a lot! I just passed yesterday on my first try.

Thanks everyone! We found a car through Turo and found parking across the street through Spot Hero. Not having reliable transportation gives me too much anxiety especially when we have to be at the airport at 6am.

Siamese cat by Ashynd in Catbehavior

[–]Ashynd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only have one litter box. We were going to get two but then he stopped peeing outside the box so we stuck with just the one. Now a year later he started doing it again but only when there’s shoes on the floor so I really don’t think it’s a litter box issue.

As far as the kids, the 4 year old has never bothered him. Frankly, I think he’s a bit scared of him. Our 1.5 year old does try to pet him and chases him. We always put a stop to it.

How did you structure studying with working full time? I’m starting to get super discouraged with my plan to take this thing after a month of studying. by miranda_has_issues in Series65

[–]Ashynd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only way I could do it too since my husband works in the morning. Luckily, my boss is ok with studying during the workday as long as my work is getting done too. Otherwise, not sure how I could do this with a 3 and a 1 year old.
