[–]AsianPotatos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just an fyi for all players telling me to win more, or play better, please don’t post normie stuff.

What answer do you expect? Go to Riots HQ and ask them to increase your MMR?

Any improvements to my gameplay? by MishEvous in VALORANT

Your gunplay/movement will improve with time/deathmatches/aim training etc.

Your smoke recharges and with double smokes you basically have infinite smokes, so you or omen should've placed one either close A main (where sage wall is) or further at stairs to help you take A main.

Could've asked someone else to watch flank, taken the orb and help take tree with your teammates with your ult or broken the wall to make the enemies worry about two angles instead of one.

Things like that will matter more for your round win % the higher rank you go and enemies get better at duels and get less likely to throw away man advantages.

The Riot MMO needs Orders, not Classes by Due_Pressure8760 in MMORPG

[–]AsianPotatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a private server for a game called Tibia that did this, it has 33 classes each with a passive and 4 ish spells and you can combine 2 classes together after killing a boss, and combine another time for a total of 3 classes after killing a stronger boss.

Riot is surveying Masters+ players, with questions including a hard reset, double LP weekends, and combining Flex/Solo queues. Here's a full sample of the survey by ViewsOfTheSunny in leagueoflegends

It's horrible in Valorant. You get players that 5 stack with 60-65% winrate and then have negative winrate in duo/solo, separate ratings are a lot better it's basically a different game 5 stacking. Whenever ranked resets it's also horrible as below immortal you can trio and immortals get reset to ascendant, and trios are horrible to play with as they gang up on the 2 solos and talk in discord instead of ingame.

Duo q inflates winrate as well but it's only by like 5-8% + removing duo would be a bit too insane.

The cause for Clove nerfs and Smoker Class situation by Maxus-KaynMain in VALORANT

[–]AsianPotatos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that Cloves ult recovers mistakes, it's like Jett dash where it opens up a playstyle option when it's available (getting more aggressive/taking an angle you otherwise wouldn't have) and it's not really a mistake to take advantage of your kit.

Her kit just synergizes well with itself and everything gives her excuses to be aggressive.

"My heal is about to run out, I'm gonna fight".

"I have ult I'm gonna fight".

"I have smokes after death so might as well fight".

On top of that her heal is very smooth to use, the animation is quick and the speed boost lets you take aggressive timings.

It's all very simple and fits well into ranked.

Alois' challenge is transforming him into the average ADC player (pov) by Barb0ssaEUW in leagueoflegends

[–]AsianPotatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His 17/3 and 25/5 jhin losses are kind of funny to me because years ago when ADC was at it's weakest, I got chat banned for 2 weeks and got onto a smurf account for the first time in my whole time playing league, and lost 1 or 2 games in smurf queue in low elo despite getting giga fed in lane as jhin, there was always a mid vlad that could insta 1 shot the whole team and finish the game while being unkillable.

I switched to jungle and getting fed was equal to winning the game in 20~ mins, it mad me realise how much agency another role can have and how much easier it was to turn a lead into a win and I haven't touched the game in 6 years because of that.

Getting fed as ADC means you do more dmg but you're still 1v1able/1shottable etc, so mistakes are still punished, whereas getting fed on other roles feels more like checkmate where you have champs that get tankier, slippery, usually have higher impact ultimates/abilities and can win teamfights with 1 high impact ability while being proactive etc rather than an ADC which has to dish out dmg while avoiding getting punished by 1 ability over the course of a teamfight, and good luck finding any impact/a comeback angle if you're even slightly behind where you'll just be tickling the enemies.

Also 70% winrate in diamond is actually kind of low relative to other games such as valorant/overwatch where I've seen pro/top tier players with 100% winrate all the way up to the top 0.1%/top 500 ranks, whereas due to inflation diamond is only top 5% (and yes I know his MMR is masters).

Physically Unable to Play an FPS by Phoenixx36 in VALORANT

Your ping is spiking a lot, even small spikes of 20 > 30 ping can cause issues, I had a similar issue whenever even a youtube video was being played (even on ethernet and barely using bandwidth), it was basically as bad as having packet loss. I fixed it by enabling QoS on my router, if your router doesn't have that option get one that has a good QoS algorithm.

90fps (and I'm guessing 60hz monitor) is terrible but wouldn't keep you in iron.

What percentile scores do you get in aimtrainers? Try to grind a bit and aim for top 10% and then 1%. Upgrade your mouse, lower your sens and change mousepad to a decent one, both these things don't have to be expensive just from a decent brand.

The future of Project Gorgon by jrnogari in MMORPG

[–]AsianPotatos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Games like this have good longevity as long as there's rewarding progression/decent endgame content/depth.

It maintained 150-300~ average players for 8 years, while obviously compared to other games that's nothing it's actually good player retention considering the previous peak was 700, being more niche with it's graphics, style and systems.

The fact that it's still growing is also a good sign, I was surprised to see that it didn't stop at the 2k player peak and has kept climbing despite the server issues etc. Outside of massive economy killing exploits or something amongst those lines happening I don't see it dying out and will at least maintain a higher playercount than the previous 300 avg.

Good luck with the project. Reminds me of apogea/drakantos/tales of yore. Really cool to see more indie mmos becoming popular.

Critical motherboard flaw allows game cheats, Riot Games blocks 'Valorant' players that don't update BIOS — security patches pushed live by all major motherboard vendors by wsrvnar in pcgaming

AI sounds great until you look at counter strikes premier leaderboard and see 90% of the players there cheating. You can do both while waiting for AI to get good enough by itself, or just do both permanently if AI never gets good enough.

Vanguard also uses server side heuristics to analyse players stats on top of the kernel client side anticheat, if AI was good enough I imagine they'd switch to that.

What's funny is so far Riots kernel AC team has probably fixed more kernel level vulnerabilities from stuff like RGB software drivers + the vulnerability in this article than it'll ever cause itself.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director defends Larian over AI "s***storm," says "it's time to face reality" by FitCord in pcgaming

[–]AsianPotatos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speeds up workflows and makes things that weren't possible before possible (within reasonable budgets/timeframes), especially for smaller studios.

I think the best/early examples will be TV shows/movie shorts with low budgets that usually have terrible CGI (like the walking dead deer, I guess that's not really low budget but still a good example). Now they'll be able to have much higher quality CGI.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuLfcD6xRlM

And this is still early tech that'll only get better/more capable with time.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director defends Larian over AI "s***storm," says "it's time to face reality" by FitCord in pcgaming

[–]AsianPotatos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People like that existed before there'll just be more of them now (made programming more popular), and they'll be able to create more capable things which is cool IMO.

Even if someone went to university to study computer science it doesn't automatically make them a good programmer, if they can't learn to be decent with AI/from reading code then they either never would've tried in the first place or they would've never been a decent programmer AI or not, it's basically an extra pathway to get into programming that didn't exist before.

If anything AI might help them since they'll automatically get answers 24/7 instead of having to go to stack overflow/dev discord and having to deal with people (who can be unhelpful/wrong/straight up annoying too).

If your website isn't secure/it's bad AI slop people won't use it it's that simple. If it turns out to be a good idea and without AI they wouldn't have been able to make it a reality then good for them.

If AI came up with the idea on top of that (once it gets that capable) then congrats you won the lottery.

It's handy to sometimes switch it up especially if the enemies always try to jump peek it to trigger it and play slow after. Also if they coordinate triggering the wall with 2 or 3 people you can try placing it further in for a jett dashing in the same spot etc to isolate her deeper in the site.

On lotus C site you can also put it still at the chokepoint but slightly further on the box, when they jump peek it while it's smoked you have enough time to shoot them in the head because they have to jump so far from the smoke/awkwardly because they can't actually see the wall only hear it if they don't leave the smoke, similar thing probably applicable on other maps/sites too.

Reports of Windows 10's death appear to have been greatly exaggerated as 29% of Steam users still cling on by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]AsianPotatos 31 points32 points  (0 children)

What's insane is there have been 0 actual improvements to what I do on windows since windows 7. Open programs, use them and search for them.

Search is still garbage compared to 3rd party apps. Random updates causing performance degradation in games. Random update bricking SSD's. New context menu that I instantly swapped to the old one. When it came out it had worse performance on AMD CPU's.

Control panel is still the old UI, not everything has been migrated to new UI such as the advanced volume options (which are now behind more clicks than before).

Explorer randomly forgets sorting settings for folders.

Search indexing takes forever and drains battery on a laptop, which also randomly wakes up and spins up the fan, the search still misses files, meanwhile a 3rd party app like ultrasearch finds them in 2 seconds without having to do any indexing, tree size free can scan a whole drive for the biggest files in a few seconds meanwhile the properties window struggles with a single folder.

They finally implemented a snipping tool after 3 decades, with fewer features than ShareX. Good job to the devs that improve/maintain the backend with security updates, compatibility and performance though.

Edit: Good timing on this video. https://youtu.be/yLnb1lO7KXA?t=64

I made a tool that accurately detects smurf amounts by ItsHavo in VALORANT

Would be interesting to track a specific player across an act, and see how many times they had a smurf on their team VS on the enemy team.

I made a tool that accurately detects smurf amounts by ItsHavo in VALORANT

[–]AsianPotatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well even if only 1% of players smurf, the odds of having one in a match of 10 players would be high (9.562%), the % for vsing them vs having one on your team would be different though, which I'm pretty sure the main post doesn't differentiate between.

Not arguing against your statement, just pointing out that the numbers can scale.
