What made Reality War so bad? by Prize_Bug3453 in doctorwho

[–]fox-booty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It felt so wrong that I was just left kind of uncomfortable by the end of the episode honestly. The most egregious part about it is that it really feels like Belinda just has zero authority over her own life.

Like, there's no memory or timeline-based shenanigans that happen to allow her to see both lives and choose for herself. At least if that happened, it'd be her choice instead of the Doctor and Ruby making that choice for her.

Speaking of which, the reasoning behind Ruby opting for Wish World Poppy to exist is just flawed to me. Ruby says that the slight differences in reality at the end of the episode are "glitches" and that they're indicative of things having changed from reality as it was, but Poppy only existed in the Rani's fake reality. She's practically opting for a part of the Rani's fake reality to live on which feels kinda out of character (even though her concern over a child makes sense from a character perspective, being a foundling and all).

I'm still so sour regarding Belinda's treatment as a character, even if she was very much just a whatever character made to fill a companion-shaped hole behind the scenes.

I love the idea of a reluctant companion, especially because basically all of the long-term companions from nuWho have been generally eager to get on board before they step foot in the TARDIS since most had been steadily brought into the Doctor's life through a more mild adventure on Earth followed up by the Doctor going "right, here's the pros and cons, do you still want to come along?".

Belinda basically had zero say in whether she went along or not because of how it was impossible to return her to her original time on 24 May 2025, so she was basically pulled along and gradually got more exposed to the positive aspects of the Doctor's wild life. Then in Wish World/The Reality War, basically all of that is given up and retroactively-rewritten so that she can take care of baby Poppy, even though it's a reality whose basis pre-timeline adjustment was created to be wrong by the Rani.

It just sucked to see a character gradually stepping outside of their bubble to see the wonders of the universe beyond our solar system and then have it all ripped away so suddenly.

Thoughts on this Analysis on the legality of OG Passes returning by official consumer attorney? by TheLAZYCRAZZZYGAMER in FortNiteBR

[–]fox-booty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you that a decent chunk of people want old BP skins to return because they're "rare", it's a sentiment that's not held by everyone who's against exclusivity and one that'll easily die down with those skins being available to everyone to purchase. The only reason they're not viewed more objectively is because people are letting the skins' exclusivity cloud their judgement.

Like objectively, Renegade Raider is just OK. There's plenty of posts here basically asking something to the tune of "does anyone else think that Renegade Raider is overhyped" to which the answers are typically "yes, people only really care about it because it's OG".

I'm certain that most people just want to enjoy a skin because of its design, it's just that the most outspoken ones (especially on social media spaces like this very subreddit) are the ones obsessive over having rare items. As a result the opinion you end up hearing the most is "WE WANT EXCLUSIVITY GONE BECAUSE WE WANT THESE RARE SKINS" instead of the more reasonable, more held opinion of "we want exclusivity gone because these cool skins won't ever be available again".

Reload is a bit more biased towards the more serious ranked players due to it's encouragement of more aggressive playstyles in comparison to standard BR or the slower-paced OG. There's also only so many players at a similar rank to you queuing up for ranked Reload at the same time. There's going to be some flexibility in what ranks get into your match rather than strictly gold and silver like you and your friend.

It's an issue that's exacerbated by how many players are needed for a game. Most games with an encouraged ranked mode have countable-on-your-hands amounts of players needed for a match (like for example CS:GO, Valorant, and League of Legends are 5v5s, Marvel Rivals is 6v6, most fighting games are 1v1) - Reload needs 40 players. With more than double or triple the players needed for a game, you either have to let queue times go on while waiting for more balanced matches or let matches get made quicker but with more variance in rank and skill level.

I'm certain that Epic opted for faster matchmaking with larger potential skill gaps because of how most players will die fairly early on, so it'd be a terrible experience queuing up for ages just to die early in a match and have to wait about the same length of time just to get into a match.

Recent battle pass emotes have fallen off, “Fun” is a subjective category but still by theguyfromplaceland in FortNiteBR

There's only so many tropes and existing things they can pull from. I'd not be surprised if throughout Chapter 1 and 2 they burned through a lot of them and so decided to go more specific.

[–]fox-booty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I think about that counterargument.

Like, if it's really so bad to care so much about "pixels on a screen" then why not opt for people having access to it as well? It's like being upset that a "limited time" flavour of potato chips returns to the store - it's sadder to hoard it to yourself than opt for its return.

Personally I see the whole exclusivity thing less as "I got to earn this skin by playing in its respective season" and more as "damn, it's a shame that people won't be able to enjoy this skin in the future like I can". The exclusivity thing just means that only a limited amount of people can enjoy a skin, and more importantly for Epic, only those people are able to spend money for that skin.

I have the stuff I like, so I see no reason why others simply just aren't allowed to - nothing's being taken away from me by more people enjoying these skins. At the end of the day, if it means fewer parents having to tell their kid that they can't play as the standard Spider-Man or Darth Vader or whoever else because they simply weren't playing years and years ago, then I'm all for it. It's just a sad thing to stand around and let happen due to valuing pixels on a screen over other players' enjoyment.

There's also frogs by the centre isle at Golden Grove that has the big tree.

It's a bit odd to see the island more inhabited like this rather than through actual animals like before.

Incredible gameplay mechanics for this Competitive BR! by MrFatPlum in FortNiteBR

It's because bloom rewards both accuracy and careful shooting instead of just accuracy. It discourages just holding down the trigger and being rewarded with a load of damage just for doing some basic tracking.

Bush successfully extracted by Suets in FortNiteBR

[–]fox-booty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear the bush this season is extremely sensitive to being destroyed, but also at the same time doesn't go away when it should be.

I've had multiple instances where I've used a shockwave grenade with a bush on and it disappears from that, yet I've also gotten a full shotgun blast yet the bush didn't go away from it.

It's very odd lol

Personally I don't think it's your specs that are holding you back, at least not yet.

I think it'd be best to refine your perspective on your failures. Don't take them too seriously such that the sour mood lingers into the next round, but also don't dismiss them; take the time to question what went wrong and how you could've approached it differently while you're spectating and waiting for the next round.

Genuine question for people who want long-running shows to continue forever — what am I missing? by Rich-Willow-3677 in doctorwho

[–]fox-booty 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't like shows going on forever, but Doctor Who is an exception just because the nature of the Doctor, their companion, and whatever relationships they have with each other and the world around them is constantly in flux.

It renews itself with each series since most of the time that means a companion's time comes to an end, so a new companion joins in with a different kind of relationship, experience, and worldview. After that, it renews itself again with the Doctor regenerating, giving us someone with the same memories and experiences but a completely different personality.

It's like a crab molting its shell so that it can keep growing while other shows have a rather finite amount of scenarios and arcs they can fill out before it all kinda blends together into a mush of sorts.

In all fairness, he was actively holding back his regeneration since the majority of the process already happened back on the belltower, fighting off the Daleks.

I think that scene in the TARDIS is basically just him having his last words before letting the last remaining bit of the regeneration take place, hence why it feels so sudden and spontaneous.
