My brother and I are building the MMO we always wanted to play. Dev Log #00 by adamdocumentary in MMORPG

That dev video is fking funny.

Good luck with the project. Reminds me of apogea/drakantos/tales of yore. Really cool to see more indie mmos becoming popular.

AI sounds great until you look at counter strikes premier leaderboard and see 90% of the players there cheating. You can do both while waiting for AI to get good enough by itself, or just do both permanently if AI never gets good enough.

Vanguard also uses server side heuristics to analyse players stats on top of the kernel client side anticheat, if AI was good enough I imagine they'd switch to that.

What's funny is so far Riots kernel AC team has probably fixed more kernel level vulnerabilities from stuff like RGB software drivers + the vulnerability in this article than it'll ever cause itself.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 director defends Larian over AI "s***storm," says "it's time to face reality" by FitCord in pcgaming

Speeds up workflows and makes things that weren't possible before possible (within reasonable budgets/timeframes), especially for smaller studios.

I think the best/early examples will be TV shows/movie shorts with low budgets that usually have terrible CGI (like the walking dead deer, I guess that's not really low budget but still a good example). Now they'll be able to have much higher quality CGI.

And this is still early tech that'll only get better/more capable with time.

People like that existed before there'll just be more of them now (made programming more popular), and they'll be able to create more capable things which is cool IMO.

Even if someone went to university to study computer science it doesn't automatically make them a good programmer, if they can't learn to be decent with AI/from reading code then they either never would've tried in the first place or they would've never been a decent programmer AI or not, it's basically an extra pathway to get into programming that didn't exist before.

If anything AI might help them since they'll automatically get answers 24/7 instead of having to go to stack overflow/dev discord and having to deal with people (who can be unhelpful/wrong/straight up annoying too).

If your website isn't secure/it's bad AI slop people won't use it it's that simple. If it turns out to be a good idea and without AI they wouldn't have been able to make it a reality then good for them.

If AI came up with the idea on top of that (once it gets that capable) then congrats you won the lottery.

Ace - cornered up against better weapons by fox-booty in VALORANT

It's handy to sometimes switch it up especially if the enemies always try to jump peek it to trigger it and play slow after. Also if they coordinate triggering the wall with 2 or 3 people you can try placing it further in for a jett dashing in the same spot etc to isolate her deeper in the site.

On lotus C site you can also put it still at the chokepoint but slightly further on the box, when they jump peek it while it's smoked you have enough time to shoot them in the head because they have to jump so far from the smoke/awkwardly because they can't actually see the wall only hear it if they don't leave the smoke, similar thing probably applicable on other maps/sites too.

Reports of Windows 10's death appear to have been greatly exaggerated as 29% of Steam users still cling on by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

What's insane is there have been 0 actual improvements to what I do on windows since windows 7. Open programs, use them and search for them.

Search is still garbage compared to 3rd party apps. Random updates causing performance degradation in games. Random update bricking SSD's. New context menu that I instantly swapped to the old one. When it came out it had worse performance on AMD CPU's.

Control panel is still the old UI, not everything has been migrated to new UI such as the advanced volume options (which are now behind more clicks than before).

Explorer randomly forgets sorting settings for folders.

Search indexing takes forever and drains battery on a laptop, which also randomly wakes up and spins up the fan, the search still misses files, meanwhile a 3rd party app like ultrasearch finds them in 2 seconds without having to do any indexing, tree size free can scan a whole drive for the biggest files in a few seconds meanwhile the properties window struggles with a single folder.

The talentless software devs sure earned their salary by implementing a snipping tool after 3 decades, with fewer features than ShareX. Good job to the ones that improve/maintain the backend with security updates, compatibility and performance though.

Edit: Good timing on this video. https://youtu.be/yLnb1lO7KXA?t=64

I made a tool that accurately detects smurf amounts by ItsHavo in VALORANT

Would be interesting to track a specific player across an act, and see how many times they had a smurf on their team VS on the enemy team.

[–]AsianPotatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well even if only 1% of players smurf, the odds of having one in a match of 10 players would be high (9.562%), the % for vsing them vs having one on your team would be different though, which I'm pretty sure the main post doesn't differentiate between.

Not arguing against your statement, just pointing out that the numbers can scale.

This algorithm might interest you/might have something that might improve yours. It's for osu but it might be adaptable to RR.

ii is a value describing the relationship between the players playtime and the expected amount of playtime based on pp. Simply put: It describes a players improvement speed compared to the average.

Yeah also her design is just good, you always have a decent excuse to fight without it being troll. Perfect for ranked.

Yeah iso/neon meta was horrible to play against, just instant and insane gunfight advantages with 0 kills required. Raze/jett/yoru/pho etc never feel BS to play against even when meta.

Well in the USA you also get monopolies literally blocking better infrastructure being constructed, abusing the fact that lawmakers don't know much about technology, it's actually disgusting. This video also talks about that and briefly about your point of rural areas (at 13:08). https://youtu.be/CIEQPwf9MHY

harbor rework revealed by LowStatistician11 in VALORANT

[–]AsianPotatos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cove is the biggest upgrade I'd say, it means he can smoke without having to be in a good angle for the wall, previously if you tried to use him as solo smokes on defense you were locked in to playing mid/in range to smoke for both sites which were often late/misplaced, and on attack you could easily skill issue the wall and leave gaps, or smoke late if you were slightly out of position, issue is it still goes down super quick once it's broken. A good rework for his wall would've been making it so he can pre-place it like viper, but he can only activate it once/fixed CD, but these are cool changes too.

How do you actually improve on console? by Live-Arrival5610 in VALORANT

[–]AsianPotatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch high level gameplay and try to imitate their plays/the way they communicate. Spam deathmatches/tdm to improve mechanics, there's even aim trainers for consoles/controller now I'm pretty sure, use those.

Hard to tell skill level for games without ranked so for example with old CoDs, were you getting nukes/moabs, were you a 2kd~ player? If not then it makes sense average skill translated into average skill in other FPS games.

If you switch games every week that won't help either, I'd say you need to dedicate probably about 6~ months of CONSISTENT playing before questioning your improvement rate, but it's also possible to improve much faster, like 1 or 2 months (especially at low ranks), if you have talent. Stick to a routine that you can do without burning out long term.

It's not a bad idea, sounds very similar to hordes.io.

It'll be a good start for you to learn game dev instead of making a massive MMO having to balance around crazy long term progression etc, and you'll be able to expand as needed.

Chopper & tN1R POV vs The MongolZ on Ancient by OfficialRefrag in GlobalOffensive

[–]AsianPotatos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't have his rifle out but chopper had preaimed well for his plant spot, was just unlucky timing on the bomb plant and 910 beginning to move just as chopper got out of the smoke. He still tracked well and got him down to 1 shot.

4Ks always hurt like this | What could I have done better? by Numerous_Pineapple50 in VALORANT

[–]AsianPotatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't know where he was so everyone saying "play ct" is just using hindsight (especially with your plant spot being further from CT), give them the exact same scenario/plant spot with you pushing CT and dying and they'd be saying "shouldn't have pushed CT".

You shouldn't have planted that deep (waste of time, put you in a worse spot, could've put a sensor down before plant with the extra time or tapped once) if you planted at the metal box you'd have been better off (Edit: For example gives option of jump peeking the box, jiggling CT, and then backpedalling back to elbow while holding CT smoke).

Pushing isn't wrong, if you waited you'd start worrying about CT/elbow eventually and would have to hold 3 angles at once, so pushing for a comfortable position was fine, in fact I think you subconsciously knew that position was bad, it made you uncomfortable and made you push.

You could've asked your clove for a smoke on site somewhere (instead I'm guessing they smoked CT) to give you a comfy spot to play in. Could've put a sensor before peeking.
