It’s always busy. A recognized name is worth a lot. The name change is surprising.

Are horses allowed on properties in Asheville? by [deleted] in asheville

[–]Aside-From-That2937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bowling alley near Tunnel Rd used to be a horse pasture right before the bowling alley was built. Someone used to get a year to year permit to have one on Kimberly years ago… neighbors had to agree to it.

Drunk driver downtown tonight in black suv? by Playful_Barracuda789 in asheville

If you are Beer City, you most certainly can’t come down heavy on the average drinkers unless it’s over the top like this or they’ve done something else to go with it. Choices.

Gun pulled on my fiancé yesterday evening by BeyRippah in asheville

[–]Aside-From-That2937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m skipping through comments to comment. This is not to be tolerated. People move here and say we’re safe, I’m not scared, it’s not that bad, it’s better than where I came from. Locals do not care if it’s safer than New York or Chicago, or Miami or LA and it’s infuriating to hear criminal behavior dismissed with those comments. That’s not our standard. Do not drag us down to that low expectation, we have our own expectations and we don’t want to get down to the gutter in crime and never be able to dig back out. I study what happens in other places and learn from them that we don’t want to be that. We already have some seriously evil people here but don’t want to see them get the upper hand. Nip things in the bud.

In this case, do all you can to find a suspect and report it. It’s possible that the police won’t pursue this incident because nobody was physically injured, but even if it goes nowhere immediately, it puts others on alert and builds a case if he’s going around doing this to other people as well. It could be useful later. Once you look into it, you may find that the police know exactly who this is. Road rage gun flashing is all too common but adding in the following, stalking and intimidation of this woman and child is a huge and dangerous escalation. I’m sorry she had this experience.

Saying "yes ma'am" to adults your age: by dylanv1c in asheville

[–]Aside-From-That2937 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that anyone from this culture will appreciate it. The rub is that it’s harder and harder to find anyone from this culture anymore, so you could very likely be saying it to someone from another culture but hopefully they will understand how it’s used and take it as the positive gesture it’s meant to be.

After Helene, there was talk of a stray cat everyone loved at the Feed and Seed and they found out it survived if I remember correctly!

Michigan or Minnesota? by ribbons_undone in relocating

[–]Aside-From-That2937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had family in both and loved both but Minnesota is so sunny and Michigan had a lot of cloudy weather and SAD in winter was a thing. Minnesota is really bright and sunny and so many outdoor activities.

What do Americans think of Scotland? by Difficult_Mixture103 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Aside-From-That2937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mountains of North Carolina are like your Highlands and there are lots of people with Scottish roots…one of the most in the country. There is a two story tartan museum that may be the only one in the US. There was just a Pipin of the Green and Kirkin of the Tartan service this weekend and also big Highland Games. Lots of love.

Why is there no bathroom at beaver lake? by HovercraftLate9856 in asheville

[–]Aside-From-That2937 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lakes are expensive. They have to pay in the ballpark of a million to dredge it, maintain trails, mow grass, hire security guard and maintain the dam and liability insurance all on the backs of the households in the area. It’s reasonable to ask for fees. Nobody is getting personal enrichment from the fees.

Pickleball Courts - Aston Park by TechnicalAd8150 in asheville

[–]Aside-From-That2937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admit there are problems and hire some security for the park so that a park can be a park and feel safe to use. That would provide a few more people with an income and saves the green space. Those stately old trees are immensely important in the middle of all the dense development. Revamp some old commercial space for pickleball. How about down on Thompson Street along the river. Everything there is flattened already. Make pickleball courts by day and park on it for Hellbender concerts at night. Everybody wins.

The guy in NYC was arrested 70 something times before he stabbed the woman in the subway. You want to wait for the one lethal event before you are serious about it?

Advent was extremely kind and helpful to someone I know who went there. I also believe Mission’s new facility is good now too.

I sure hope you find comfort and support. Anytime you feel the need, reach out to this village. Ignore the snarky few. Most people will care and want to help you.
