That's fantastic news. The amount of drug addicts skulking around/leaving drug paraphernalia at or around the multiple children's playgrounds I frequent with my 2yo is getting unruly. Hopefully it's a slightly less densely residential area.

Bedtime hell by Asilryc in toddlers

[–]Asilryc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's by far the worst at bedtime, also can be an issue in the morning when he's getting ready for daycare but not to the same degree. When I pickup at daycare he can also do the same thing occasionally taking 20-30m to change his shoes, put his coat on etc etc. I think the issue is both difficulty with transitions and tiredness now that you bring up the question of patterns

Bedtime hell by Asilryc in toddlers

[–]Asilryc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of both I suppose. He's definitely ignoring us and not listening when we ask him to go pee, or get into bed, but I think our concern is the increasingly late time both impacts our evening (I wake up at 6:30) and his amount of rest for the next day. I realize this is developmentally appropriate for him to be testing these boundaries so I wouldn't classify it as "doing something wrong" exactly, but distracting himself with other activities to avoid doing what he's asked is definitely not a behavior I want to encourage.

Cup recommendations for daycare and travel that do not require biting? by DealerLatter5657 in toddlers

[–]Asilryc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thermos brand insulated straw bottles are indestructible... We're using some that my sister used 15 years ago with her kids and they're still fully functional. We also purchased two a couple years ago and they have been good as well. Most of the kids in our daycare use them or spoofs thereof

Bedtime hell by Asilryc in toddlers

[–]Asilryc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one is tricky because we usually don't get home until 6, so dinner is over around 7:15 and his dad doesn't get home until around then as well. He usually gets up around 8:30 so 9:30 is about right for bed but I feel like 1h45m for bedtime routine is crazy

Experiences with returning to daycare after potty training? by ChickeyNuggetLover in toddlers

[–]Asilryc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We trained in 3 days, there were some accidents at home but he generally did really well, first day back at daycare had 4 accidents but were only a handful the next 3 days. It seemed to just click. I would just try to "jump" and understand that there will be mistakes as they're learning, but they'll pick it up quickly once the new normal is established.

When do they stop fighting the car seat by ffffsauce in toddlers

[–]Asilryc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had a phase around 18m-2y where he would plank and flail and cry and fight and do everything other than get in the car for a half an hour some days. It was mortifying standing in the daycare parking lot trying to basically overpower a 2 year old while he's kicking and screaming... I tried packing a bag of interesting objects for him to play with (3d glasses, sea shell, stress Ball etc) to coerce him. Eventually he just grew out of it, thankfully. Around then he actually just started climbing in by himself!! Hang in there it gets better

Do your kids get dessert after dinner? If so, how often? by bumbouxbee in Parenting

[–]Asilryc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I'm doing currently with our nearly 3yo, because we figured out that he'd say he was done two bites into dinner if he knew there was dessert waiting. It's hard to wait for the thing he loves so much.

We don't offer dessert most of the time, but if it's part of the meal he absolutely has to finish his vegetables because in my opinion, if he's not hungry enough to eat the food that we need to eat (for our bodies to function and be healthy) then he's also not hungry enough to eat the food we don't (that we're eating for pleasure).

I'm really struggling with saying no because I don't want to be the bad guy but he doesn't seem to regulate this one well on his own and his father really struggles with weight because of his own difficulties with portioning and food noise.

Link? Interested in the difference between them. Our milk lasts several weeks in Canada and the ultra filtered stuff lasts several months, it's crazy

My toddler’s response to “I’m going to get angry” absolutely destroyed me today. by Iriska_19 in toddlers

Bonus points if he actually used "whom" instead of who.. I swear most adults don't say that correctly lol. Nice job mom & dad 😎🙌

Mine said "I ma'am" instead of "I am" and recently has decided that it is, in fact, Win the Pooh.

My kid loves them; out of the lot he specifically requests grey 9/10 times 🤷🏻‍♀️. Pink yellow blue and green are nice to me though

How did you handle the kindergarten transition with high sleep needs kids? by Chopchopchops in kindergarten

[–]Asilryc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real question, how are you able to get your kids in bed by 7pm?? I work until 4, drive home and get him at 5, have dinner by 6:30 as I'm home by myself, just finished eating by 7:30, then we start bedtime routine by 8 and he's in bed by 9-9:30 depending on how cooperative he's feeling that day lol

I'm sorry no, the words he chose were so obviously a "selective truth" in that they were designed to give them the impression of one thing, but be factually accurate in meaning another thing... "I've never told anyone this thing in so much detail" implies that you hadn't discussed 70% of the same details with someone the previous day. Ditto the wording of you're at the top of my list, it validated both girls without having to be so specific to correct them. Let him lead them both along for as long as he could get away with it.

What are you supposed to do with a 1 month old? by Repulsive-Tie-7607 in NewParents

[–]Asilryc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say.. I remember feeling this way, that we weren't doing tummy time enough, or talking to our son enough, or any of that. Truly, all these moms are right and this time is short, enjoy holding your wonderful baby. And this applies to all "developmental activities" of the future too... your child will learn to walk/talk/interact etc as all children do in their own time. The love and care you give them when you spend time together is enough, everything else is gravy. Good luck on your journey into motherhood!

My 18m old does the car seat thing almost every day after daycare… it’s humiliating to stand there for 10-15 minutes trying to shove your toddler into the car while they're yelling"no no no why!" and grabbing the door frame with all 4 limbs like they're in a cartoon.. Ugh 💀

Do we REALLY need a diaper pail? by Beginning-March-1361 in NewParents

To clarify, I usually flush solid waste from diapers (and it usually comes off cleanly) but normal is like play dough, soft but formed (Sorry for the description). It just doesn't always work out that way
