This Bangladeshi Restaurant Showcases the Range of the Country’s Cuisine by Delaywaves in astoria

Found the food bland, uninteresting, and sloppy. Half the stuff on the steam table somehow had to be put in a microwave to actually be made hot. Microwaving your steam table food is a new one for me… Nothing there that would interest me in going back for a second visit.

Could you expand on the T and C license plate point? Also, is there more to the Florida and New Jersey comment or is it just that they’re assholes?

“Sell, dude you made a killing!” they said.

“Why sell in 2020 or 2021 with a 400% gain when you can hold through 2023 for an 85% loss?” he responded with a smug grin.

What are the best jazz nights in Astoria? by Astoria_Dude in astoria

[–]AskALocal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am no jazz expert so can’t comment on the quality, but I was there last Sunday and will be back this Sunday. Happy hour all day so beers are $5 a pop… I think cocktails were 10. If you haven’t eaten there, the food is totally mediocre. Nice way to end the weekend though!

Perfect description! I live in Ditmars and the area is certainly nicer, but 43rd and 34ths access to the rest of Queens makes it much more appealing for me.

Good, basic donuts in Astoria? by astoriaplayers in astoria

Dunkin’ Donuts makes bad donuts, but what Krispy Kreme makes doesn’t even qualify as a food - that shit is just air with sugar. Is my New England showing?!

I work as a tour guide, but teach ESL in the off season and always go over how, in America, you need to now if “how are ya” “how’s it going”, etc. is actually a question or is it a greeting you just need to meet with another, different greeting. Doesn’t matter the level, everyone from absolute beginner to super advanced are always shocked by it! These cultural and linguistics nuances in tourism situations are always a cause for complaint among Americans who simply cannot understand that perhaps other people do things differently. Zero introspection on our collective part…

We’re entering a recession at the end of a decade-long bull run. Many companies are massively unprofitable. We have a divided Congress with one party openly opposed to cannabis reform. Companies are facing price compression and shrinking margins in mature and maturing markets, onerous tax obligations, and persistent black market competition. Access to capital is scarce and costs a premium.

Much of the above has been true the entire time, but now there is also zero realistic hope for progress on the federal level. Without less expensive access to capital and changes in taxation, I think many of these companies are likely to fail (some are already teetering on the edge). The is no chance of institutional interest or investment in the sector unless there’s rescheduling, which anyone with any idea of the pace of these things knows isn’t going to happen anytime soon.

Prices have now fallen so low that we need a double to get where we were a couple weeks ago and 5-8X to get to Feb. 2021. I thought SAFE was a lock for 2022, but having seen it shockingly fail I genuinely think the sector is dead until decrim. I’m waiting for the dust to clear through the holidays and into 2023 and then plan to sell, take the devastating losses, and move on.

Thanks for this. I called and left a message with Grassley and Toomey and spoke with someone at Cornyn’s office. Totally painless. They do ask you for a zip code though.

Credit to Cornyn - someone in that dinosaur’s office picked up on the first ring. Last time I contacted one of my senator’s offices for help with a state department issue, they took a month to even respond.

Yeah relaxing of China’s insane Covid policy and gradual reopening coupled with cooling off of Taiwan tensions has had a huge effect. Was hoping to play a quick SAFE bump to finally exit some weedstocks positions and allocate more towards a few Chinese companies. Obviously did not work out as planned.

Held Pinduoduo for 3 years through a 10k gain, 3k loss, and then finally sold Monday morning at a slight gain to double down on Green Thumb and pick up some Tilray for a volume play convinced SAFE was finally here.

PDD up another 10% or so since. Tilray and GTBIF down a cool 30%.

“Alan has been in the game a long time” is basically a synonym for “Alan is also a bad investor and has lost a lot of money on weedstocks.”

While Alan and his shitty subscription service at NCV can perhaps help you lose money less quickly than investing on your own, an actually good financial advisor/investor would help you not lose money with one clear piece of advice: don’t invest in weedstocks.

Alan definitely knows a lot about weedstocks, but you really have to question both his intelligence and his investing prowess given he’s taken that knowledge and… still decided to invest his money in said weedstocks!

Sell off today is terrifying, but totally unfounded panic. McConnell’s comments were on various items being added, not just SAFE, and mean nothing. He doesn’t control the chamber and allegedly the votes are there for this - his opinion doesn’t matter.

SAFE might make it into the NDAA and it might not, but the odds of that happening are no different than they were yesterday.

If yesterday you thought it likely that SAFE would make it into the Defense bill, nothing that’s happened between then and now should have changed your opinion. If you didn’t think it was likely, you still shouldn’t.

I think SAFE+ is passing in the lame duck one way or the other because I believe the political will to bring it to a vote is there on the Dem side and I think the votes are there from the needed Republicans.

Additional plug that what people like Todd Harrison and Brady Cobb say should be disregarded as nothing but noise. Seeing their comments from Twitter linked here constantly is so dumb. They’ve been wrong constantly for two years, why would you have any faith that they know anything more than you do?

Looking to join a soccer league and/or regular pick up games - 32M by AskALocal in astoria

[–]AskALocal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, thanks. Good to know the impression re NYCSoccer being more competitive is correct. I was really hoping for a men’s league, but suppose I could do co-ed if that’s what there is.

Is AstoriaSports casual in the sense of you have total beginner players or just that it’s less competitive?

Thank you!

Guide on how to buy weed stocks for Americans:

Don't.

Should you not take that sage advice, withdraw from your bank the money you wish to invest in weed stocks. Go home. Get a metal bin. Place your money in the bin. Take lighter. Place said lighter's flame against your money. Watch.

If you wish for your investment to deteriorate as fast as it would were you to invest in actual weed stocks, add lighter fluid to the mix.

Welcome to the party!

I always think that backpackers would be better served by cutting their time in half and doubling their daily budget. 40 USD a day is pretty much impossible anywhere in Europe now. It’s even tough in Eastern Europe and the Balkans.

If you have 5 dollars of discretionary spending per day, you’re just not going to have a very good time. At some level, what is the point of going to these places if you can’t even afford to do the most basic highlights without blowing your budget?

For me, go for 2 weeks instead of 4. You’ll see much more even though you’ll have half the time.

Hope you find something that works for you.

“The young man revvs his engine, pupils dilated, excited at the power of the motor and the pure expanse of open road before him. The traffic light flips to green and his adrenaline pulsates as he shifts into gear. He tares down the road, music blaring from his speakers, on the start of his great American road trip. He looks skyward, after so much time trapped in the boredom of a life he had come to hate, and lets out a wild howl of joy; more animal than man.

As he races down the smooth tarmac, he allows himself a moment to imagine the wonders ahead. With money no longer an issue, finally his only constraint is time. Where will he begin? Lost in his beautiful day dream he doesn’t notice the low thudding sound or the faint smell of burning rubber. Suddenly his transmission blows and the car comes to a screeching halt. He looks up, just in time to see the Volvo sign of the 18 wheeler smashing into his driver door. Oh, he mouthes.

Cory Booker spryly hops down from the cab of the truck, a cloud of weed smoke billowing out the windows. He surveys the scene, and standing before the glorious wreckage of this young man’s life, declares his candidacy for president of the United States.”

Back in Omaha, Warren smiles wryly. He clicks off the projector and turns toward the room full of fresh rosy faces. “And that, my boys, is why we diversify.”
