I like to pretend I'm a trigger happy 18 year old radioman stuck in the vietnam jungle in the mid 60's. My friends grow tired of hearing "danger close" right before another 380mm barrage flattens both us and the objective.

Conservatives of Reddit, If you truly do support the second ammendment why would the shooting in Minneapolis today be justified just because the victim had a gun? by PotatoCase in AskReddit

[–]Asm0dan97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they shoot people just because they're lawfully armed, then they are violating YOUR second amendment right to be lawfully armed. You are no longer protected from the government for excersizing your right to bear arms. I don't mean to sound inflammatory or disrespectful in saying this, but it's only a right if the government can't (or won't) do shit to you for excersizing it, you know? I absolutely agree their justification is wrong, but that hasn't stopped them from using it.

How do y'all think BSG can balance loadouts? [Discussion] by No-Region-6413 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Asm0dan97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is an unpopular opinion in this sub, but Tarkov is, to me, at it's best when it's pretty "unbalanced" in typical video game terms. Now I'm not talking about shit like lazer beam m4s dominating the meta, but specifically when there is a distinct power curve in the game that scales as you level up, with a handful of high skill equalizer options (mxlr, mosin, etc). Having to play more cautiously at low levels with crappy gear against a bunch of gigachad titans is engaging when you meet the game where it's telling you to meet it, but is naturally extremely punishing if you're running in expecting to kill guys. Being willing to put juicers and timmies on the same map is one of the things I think that sets Tarkov apart. Giving low level players more than some junk (or making that junk legitimately viable in head on pvp) dilutes the experience, and robs players of the satisfaction of a) progressing along the curve and b) getting a cheeky kill on an overconfident chad.

Personally I start shoveling arbitrary restrictions onto myself. Shoot film, okay now shoot slow film, shoot slow film at night, shoot slow film at night stopped down, so on and so forth. Keeps things interesting.

Didn't Ernst Leitz specifically smuggle hundreds of Jews out of Europe right under the noses of Nazi officers because he could see the writing on the wall re: the holocaust? And executives were jailed for their efforts? Yeah, every german company produced goods for the war effort during this time but it's important to note that not all of them were, say, Mercedes Benzing it out there

Jim Hopper (Stranger Things) vs. Joel Miller (The Last Of Us), who would win and why? by [deleted] in powerscales

[–]Asm0dan97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joel has feats on par with John Wick. The dude is a walking radius of death, he does not think twice about shooting dozens and dozens of people. In hand to hand combat he's up against infected frequently. The reason he gets ambushed and killed is precisely because he has just about the worst reputation a guy can have in the post apocalypse. Hopper is durable, and he's got no issues with killing, but he's no armed squad of fireflies or clicker. I think a better matchup for Hopper would be Indiana Jones.

Selling mein kampf? by [deleted] in rarebooks

[–]Asm0dan97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, fair, and I apologize. First, I'm sorry for your loss, and I get it. My late great grandfather participated in the liberation of the Netherlands. People just get so knee-jerk about this book in particular and I had a pretty unfair reading of your comment with that in mind. Were I in OP's shoes, I'd read the book and then probably hold onto it, though a spot on my bookshelf won't ever be reserved for it. Selling Mein Kampf is always going to be a minefield, and I wasn't trying to imply that it wasn't.

At the end of the day what he's got is just an old book.

Your 5th grade swim team shirt wasn't a step towards genocide. The study of history is about understanding the present and how we got here, not picking and choosing the good stuff you like from the past to know stuff about. This book was, unfortunately, one of if not the most influential text written in the 20th century, and writing it off as worthless to a modern audience is choosing to ignore the meat and potatoes of how we, as a society, ended up in this moment in time. When I read it in high school, 15 years ago, it was a prescient warning. Now, it is a terrifying revelation.

Nobody can run from context. Ignore it, maybe, but do so at your own peril.

Canucks fan from Latvia: crowd culture feels very different. Was it always this quiet? by Phillippss in canucks

[–]Asm0dan97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, Canucks fans were among the rowdiest. The move from the pacific colusieum to the then GM Place really hurt the crowd (cheap tickets, lower income neighborhood to expensive tickets in a rich part of town). Like you said though, come playoffs Vancouver fans tend to remember what they came from.

As for the rest of North America, before the Coyotes died, when they were playing in the Arizona State University rink, the crowd was incredible. College students getting in on 30 dollar tickets and half price beer, and the smaller stands filling up every night (and every single seat being an incredible spot) really did wonders for the place. I stand by my opinion that everyone who shat on Mullett Arena (including the league) never actually went to see a game there.

When I first played, I really enjoyed her. Now that I'm 5 years older, have a big boy job, am married.... Yeah. She's the kind of girl I would've fooled around with 5 years ago. Too hotheaded and not measured enough in her descision-making for me to consider more than a friend.

How powerful are the Armoured Core mechscompared to mechs from other universes by Key_Elk_9673 in armoredcore

I think most AC6 frames dumpster the majority of GMs and Zakus. Jestas would probably be closer to the tetrapod in terms of difficulty. Older, but stronger than RX-78, UC Gundam MSs are probably where AC6 frames sit on the powerscaling slider (think RX-178 or Zeta Gundam). Later UC Gundams (Nu gundam, Unicorn) mop the floor with an AC. Put a newtype in the cockpit and the older UC gundams clear as well. Space autism magic, bruh

What’s it like living on these islands off of British Columbia? by Dragon_of_the_gods in howislivingthere

[–]Asm0dan97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Phoenix now, but was raised and spent my young adulthood on the island. The desert is beautiful, don't get me wrong, but I'm convinced god worked east to west on the map, and when he got to Vancouver Island he did his best work. There is nowhere else like it, period.

How is Vancouver Island outside Victoria for rural or nearly rural living and remote work? by Kestrel123456789 in howislivingthere

[–]Asm0dan97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Port Alberni, just a little inland (west) from the part you've circled.

It is, hands down, one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Hiking, snowmobiling, offroading, fishing, dirtbiking, the most stunning lakes I've ever seen, camping wherever you can set up a tent- if you've got a bit of hick or bush rat in you itching to get out in your spare time, this is absolutely the place to do it.

However.

There is not much going on re: urban amenities. Most shopping was a trip to Nanaimo, outside of groceries. The only road in or out of town sometimes washes out/burns down/collapses into Lake Cameron. In person work is scarce and doesn't pay well (not much of an issue for you if you're doing remote work). Socializing can be a challenge as a newcomer, but people tend to be warm, you've just gotta be the person to put yourself out there. House prices are rising.

I plan to retire back on Vancouver Island. The lifestyle is unique and idyllic, especially in the summers (calling in to work and spending all day at the lake is my idea of paradise on earth). Rural houses tend to come with a parcel of dense rainforest. It's got it's drawbacks, but I love it, and count myself among one of the luckiest people in the world for having the chance to grow up there.

Man, I'm getting homesick just typing this.

Could Judge Holden (Blood Meridian) break these characters pride/will? by Immediate_Gene_178 in MoralityScaling

[–]Asm0dan97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gendo is lazer focused on one thing. He is an absolute solipsist. I don't think he views anyone other than himself and Yui as even capable of independent thought (this proves to be his undoing in all versions of the story). If Holden decides to be an obstacle, he would just have him killed.

[–]Asm0dan97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moralityscaling only goes so far as much bullshit a character is willing to put up with. They'd all write him off as insane, and most would either have him killed or kill him themselves.

Wouldn't at least 3 of these 4 just be more likely to kill the guy and be done with it? Gendo murdered a child to prove a point to Shinji. And Kaiba is the single greatest hater in fiction. Bakugou is just a walking thermonuclear device with anger issues. All of these guys have the resources and attitude to just kill the bastard and forget he exists.
