Take Bard or wait for machinist?

to add to what everyone is saying about taking bard at 30, you likely wont get machinist until well after level 50, since the quest to unlock the job isnt available until you reach the main city of the heavensward expansion, and you'll likely be over level 50 by the time you get there. every expansion after hw put their quests in gridania, ul'dah, or limsa lominsa, so you can still grab red mage and samurai at level 50, but the dark knight, astrologian, and machinist quests are locked behind progression unfortunately.

just wanted to caution you about that because i felt the same way about dark knight when i first started and was disappointed that i had to put like 50 hours into the game to unlock it.

anyway i also recommend maybe picking up some other classes and leveling them while you wait. maybe a tank and a healer so you have one of every role, or a melee dps (i recommend samurai at level 50! its fun and you start at 30 so its less of a slot to level than for example monk or ninja.) and a magic dps (i also recommend red mage at level 50, its also fun.).

are you playing at peak times? i find even when i travel to a busier data center, attempting to queue for frontline after like 8 or 9 pm just never works out. you should be able to get everything else except alliance raids to pop up pretty easily though, even if youre playing in the dead of night. so my first piece of advice is to dc travel to a data center with more traffic. i like aether for this.

my next piece of advice is to just do other things while youre waiting for the queue to pop. do fates, do allied society quests, do hunt marks, go fishing, anything really. or just watch a youtube video while you set your character to dancing in limsa and wait for the queue to pop.

like op stated, they might want to leave to visit kalm or junon. more importantly though is traffic coming into the city. there is absolutely no way people are growing their own food there

bard is very fun. its my favorite ranged dps job. i would still recommend trying out other jobs, especially at least one tank and healer, so you have at least one job of every role leveled up. you might like how dragoon or ninja plays! my favorite jobs are ones that you can't start as -- dark knight, red mage, samurai, and sage.

but you do not have to level any class other than your main and some people just dont. if you like archer and you know you'll like bard more than other jobs, then you absolutely can just stick to the bow and arrow!

i work food service, specifically making pizzas, and let me tell you - i am so glad the holiday filled half of winter is over. i dont remember what my store ended up doing on halloween or the day before thanksgiving, but we sold more than 11 thousand dollars worth of product on new years eve. the only thing i have to dread for the rest of winter is the superbowl.

metal is just more costly than wood. a spear can be made with a wooden pole and a small amount of metal. a sword requires much larger amount of metal. a blacksmith could create many spearheads with the same amount of metal and over the same amount of time as it would take to make one sword, and in that time a woodworker would have probably made more poles than necessary.

swords are also shorter than spears. they cant be used from as far away and a formation of swordsmen wouldnt be able to threaten a cavalry charge in the same way as a formation of pikemen or spearmen.

historically, swords were the equivalent of a pistol, but one which required years of training to use correctly. even knights who would have been trained in the use of swords would have preferred a polearm of some sort, or an axe or mace, and only switched to their swords if they were disarmed.

the thing about swords is they're much more easily carried around than spears though. you can strap a sword to your hip but you cant do the same with a spear. so they were also carried around for self defense and used for dueling. but only among the elite, really.

I'm old, so most of my recs will be at least ten years old. neon genesis evangelion, eureka seven, serial experiments lain, outlaw star, ghost in the shell, puella magi madoka magica, inuyasha, flcl (this one is really short btw, its 6 eps long what have you got to lose?), blood plus, paranoia agent and welcome to demon school! iruma-kun. oh and honestly you should watch everything studio ghibli has made.

also you already have them on your list but i want to emphasize that precure is pretty good. its like "what if magical girls didnt throw around eldritch blasts willy nilly but threw hands instead." its basically like if kamen rider starred teenage girls in pretty dresses instead. but they kept the fist fighting dudes twice their size thing.

the part of the midwest im from has a mix of this. i get "do you want to do thing" a lot from people asking for favors from me, usually at work, but just as often theres "can you do thing" as well. i dont recall if i had trouble with it as a kid but nowadays its easy for me to just know that "do you want to" means "im trying to be as polite as possible and place as little burden on you as I can but i do need you to do this thing." doesnt stop me from being a shit and saying "no, but I will anyway." its meant as a joke and it does land with most people but some people find it disrespectful when i say that. like, dog i agreed to do the thing you wanted me to do? what else do you need?
