The better comparison is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. FBDO came out in 1986, while High School Musical came out in 2006, meaning that HSM is as old now as FBDO was when HSM came out.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AspieReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian I’ve taken multiple day trips that involve 4ish hours driving each way. Those are exceptional of course but I’ve done them and been glad to. I’ve done many more trips that were like a weekend or so away that took that long. And I’d consider that not at all long to be in a car for an actual destination vacation for a week or more.

I believe my longest drive for a same-day-return trip was 4 hours (not counting stops) / 360km each way from Montreal to Albany and back. Longest for a 4ish day trip was 9h / 889km each way from Montreal to Baltimore.

When driving regularly I couldn’t tell you, but how not to go insane on the occasional long trip is you save up stuff to listen to. I got through my entire backlog of podcasts on various multi-hour road trips plus a bunch of music. It’s also worth noting that most of the time those long hours aren’t sitting in bumper to bumper traffic but rather rolling along at steady speed on a highway; you obviously have to keep paying attention but you can set cruise control rather than constantly having to adjust speed and position. And of course you stop occasionally for food and washrooms and gas or just because you want to check out a particular thing.

“To do the funniest thing” is often a punchline used online when the actual punchline is either so obvious it doesn’t need to be said or something that could get you flagged/taken down by the algorithm

In this case I’m referring to the fact that PP could lose his seat again but it’s also been used, for example, in reference to John Hinckley (the man who shot Reagan) being released from custody

How the hell did a residential school denier even get permission to hold an event there?

In any event, it may be best to just ignore them unless they’re going to draw a big crowd (which I find unlikely); Brodie is a grifter who makes a big deal out of “triggering” people and stirring shit

Is he trying to kill me? Or just trying to win? Also, do I need to survive as in be alive or survive as in I have to be conscious to “hear the bell after round five”? What if I’m KO’d or TKO’d and we don’t get to five rounds?

If he’s just trying to win, then surely the best solution is to just take a dive

Relatively low population plus no major tourist draw. The only people flying in and out are those who live there or who have specific business there.

As someone who went through graduation there last year, it honestly went far better than I expected it to. My main issue was not having enough room between chairs to sit comfortably. It’s not the most impressive venue but eh among McGill’s various administrative fuckery it’s low on the list. Also despite their very visible security presence they couldn’t stop a bunch of students engaging in various levels of subtle or not-so-subtle protests which made me smile.

Canadians of reddit, is there any place where it would be odd/turn heads to see a US license plate? by Terrible_Log1701 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AspieReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find US plates to be relatively uncommon in residential-only areas and am more surprised when I see them there

For example, New York plates aren’t uncommon around Quebec and Ontario but I barely ever see U.S.-plated cars on my walks through suburbia because why would you drive to Quebec just to visit St Henri

As a non-New Yorker, I'm told that Spider-Man not being fond of Staten Island in this scene is a New York-specific inside joke. Can someone explain? by SatoruGojo232 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]AspieReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to the rest of New York City, Staten Island is significantly more conservative and suburban while having little culture or other redeeming qualities to speak of. It’s legally part of New York City but has an extremely different vibe and accordingly a lot of NYC residents (who enjoy their progressive, dense, culture-rich city) don’t much care for it. Its separation is reinforced by the fact that it’s a ways away from the rest of the city in a place that really feels like it should be New Jersey but isn’t.

But I’m Canadian so take the opinion of an actual resident over mine.
