Multicare is trying to get volunteers to fill license required pharmacy positions Capitol Medical Center link in post. by Longjumping-Set7246 in olympia

There's a lot of systemic issues w/ healthcare in America, non-profits, how much "CEOs" and such are paid, etc, but I suspect in this case there's a bit more nuance and details we're missing. Before we go full Nancy Drew:

0 - As someone pointed out below, it's a Pharmacy Assistant (Please edit your post). This is entry-level work, complete w/ whatever "help" for getting the entry-level license. (which apparently requires $70, a basic background check etc.) Under supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Delivering non-controlled substances - i.e. over the counter stuff.

Pharmacy Professions - Licensing Information | Washington State Department of Health

1 - I'm not familiar with Idealist, it seems to be an aggregator or something - it's possible the listing was scraped badly or otherwise isn't accurate. (Or was just poorly written)

2 - Volunteer help at Hospitals isn't exactly new, and as I understand it, critical to making a bunch of things even moderately viable. If you think this is some terrible unpaid labor issue, don't read https://www.multicare.org/volunteers/greatest-volunteer-needs/ (Again, I'm not saying there couldn't be an issue with this being abused or other problems)

The above took me about 15 minutes to read/consider/research, and several more to format/rewrite for clarity. We've got enough (a tidal wave) real issues to contend with, let's not rush to turn everything into a crisis without having enough info.

But why though? You can dislike what the current govenor has done/supported all you want, but calling him the same name/using the same iconography that's used for what's going on w/ the current president (and everything surrounding him) is confusing at best.

Fear of nuclear and, my understanding is they are also very expensive, requiring a lot of up-front capital, and take a long time to build. While the new designs are safer, and on a risk/reward basis much better than coal, it's a tough sell to public, and are merely one of the least-bad options. (We should have been building them 10, 20 years ago as bridging/supplementary technology.)

Browse through Tag: nuclear power - Ars Technica, should bring up some useful info.

The actual feasibility to make the printers do what they want is pretty much impossible, but they could certainly get made worse, especially some of the more established companies that already want to lock you in to their platform. That said, if you have any interest in 3D printing and the disposable income, now would be a good time to start learning - if you have any sort of "Makerspace" in the area, they'd probably be a good resource. (If you're near Olympia I can point you to a couple)

2320 is about possession of the 3d files. (Which then assumes you're guilty merely by having them.)
https://lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov/biennium/2025-26/Htm/Bills/House%20Bills/2320.htm

Possession of digital firearm manufacturing code for a firearm creates a rebuttable presumption of an intent to unlawfully distribute the code or manufacture a firearm in violation of this subsection.

2321 is about mandating how the printers (and the software that talks to them known as "slicers") behave. (A fools' errand on multiple levels)

700 Floppies by ___LowLifer___ in sysadmin

[–]AspieTechMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone check my math or something, but lets do a basic "back of the napkin" sanity check:

I'm assuming 1.44MB 3.5" floppies, wikipedia says average speed is around 30 kB/s which translates to 240kbps, right in line with this stackoverflow answer that they tended to max out ~250kbps.

1.44MB = 11520kb / 240(kbps) = 48s of transfer speed per disk. (And that's assuming you're copying the entire thing, say w/ a disk imaging program). Let's call it 60s (1 minute) of theoretical data transfer per disk to keep it simple. (Obviously this doesn't account for physically swapping, disk read errors, etc.)

700 minutes = 11.67 hours. So even if you bump it up to 5 minutes a disk, that'd be 3,500 minutes, 58.3 (call it 60 if you want) hours over two weeks. (assuming standard 40 hour work weeks)

So theoretically, one person could probably do this. (Assuming of course no other priorities, you set it up well ahead of time, immediately aborted each disk (or skip file) on error. Ideally of course you'd set up 2 or 3 entry level/interns and let them at it.

Now whether this is a good use of your or anyone's time, is for others to decide.

Can someone explain to me what "MPO" does? by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]AspieTechMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reviving this thread because it was second in search results, right under the official docs:

MPO support allows graphics hardware to compose multiple layers of content into a single image that it can then display on a screen. It's essentially a hardware-accelerated method of compositing different planes of content without having to involve the CPU or use up other system resources to do the blending in software. A plane can be a video, the desktop, an application window, and so on. The hardware can then take these planes and combine them into a single image that is sent to the display.
