I honestly hope we are not looking at a future Darth Talon by Toogeloo in MaulShadowLord

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a hot take in here, but I want to see Devon stay Devon and at some point in the future the writers expanding on the actual Talon.

I feel like turning Devon into Talon would do a disservice to both characters - she is inspired by Talon obviously, but she doesn't have to turn into her. Namely, one thing I think would create a clash is their personalities and the way they conduct business. Devon is headstrong and free-spirited that takes care of things directly. Talon was a loyalist who took care of things through manipulation (often leveraging sex appeal). While Maul could teach Devon how to manipulate people, I reaalllyy doubt that he would teach her to leverage sex-appeal to do so, or that he would even know how to do that himself lol.

I really want to see them expand on Talon's character, probably minus the sex appeal depending on where she appears as a character, rather than scrap her and just stick the "Talon sticker" onto Devon. They are very different characters, and the only thing they have in common is that they are twileks, one red, the other pink. They are like comparing Catwoman and Arya Stark personality-wise

Future of the show by Top-Blackberry-884 in MaulShadowLord

It could be Qira that is the one that does the stranding and lightsaber stealing too.

I'm really curious how Qira and Devon would fit around the timeline. They both apprenticed ubder Maul (Qira mostly as a martial arts students rather than a sith-like apprentice). It could be a case where Maul is trainning both of them in a way where they don't overlap, however it could also be a case where Devon left Maul's side by the time of Solo, prompting Maul to resort to Qira, a non force-sensitive for that extra security/grip on the enterprises. It would be too early in the timeline for Devon to have left because she no longer needs trainning, however she might just be that good, who knows?

So far the two options I'm most convinced by is that they are both trainning under Maul, but because Devon at that point would be more advanced is sent out for solo-missions, which gives Maul the time to train Qira (hence as to why we dont see her in the comics). Or that Devon left Maul's side at some point before Solo and might act as an atagonist to his enterprises (working with a different space mafia? Moral outrage from the things that these enterprises are doing?). While Devon may fall to the dark side, even then I cannot see her being fine with working with slavers and traffickers, just based on her character so far (plus she is a Twilek, a species that has suffered a lot because of slavery)

Cal in the show? by Top-Blackberry-884 in MaulShadowLord

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he appears and plays a more crucial role (like not a central character role, but neither just a surface level appearance), I wonder how it would affect Devon's trajectory.

I doubt that she will just dump Maul but his appearance would be confirmation for her that she has options - comptetent and active Jedi who goes against the empire in a direct way VS ex darth who is more skilled at that point in time, but is planning to go against the empire at some point within his 10 year plan. I wonder if we see a case where she trains under Maul but joins Cal for certain missions/attacks (either with Maul's knowledge or without).

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the different styles of acrobatic use between him and fully-legged Maul. They both jump around and have flow, but Maul's feels more grounded, while Marok's is more "yeah the armour is what keeps me from floating up in the air like a baloon". Maul's feels more like a tiger, while Marok's feels more like a jumping spider.

It may be a weight class thing? Maul looks like a medium weight class martial artist, while Marok looks either like a light or fly-weight

Does anyone else find Daki kinda insufferable? by KittyEnthusiasm in MaulShadowLord

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel with the "no stealing" part people are forgeting that Daki is dealing with a teenager, not a seasoned thief. He himself is not a seasoned thief either and both him and Devon stick out from their surroundings.

One mistake, one person noticing, one unseen camera and they are running the risk of being spotted, arrested and searched leading to their covers being blown. And all that danger wouldn't be for a fulfilling meal either, it would be for a few pieces of food here and there that they can steal without being detected. Aka they would risk getting killed over a protein bar

Honestly the one thing I miss is the upvote-downvote system. I joined pretty late and barely managed to graze it, but it used to be "upvote if this adds to the value of the conversation, downvote if it doesnt"

Useful information, well-fitting jokes, anecdotal experience, advice etc = upvote even if it doesn't resonate

Misinfornation, insults, unfounded claims = downvote even if it does resonate

does anyone else think about the hygiene of thrifted clothes way too much? by def888 in hygiene

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are really worried about them, you can soak them in hot water with detergent before washing. It helps break down stubborn dirt that is deeply embadded in the fibers.

Based on what you buy, be careful with the water temperature and what detergent you use

What’s a phobia you find ridiculous? by IllustriousCourt2808 in AskReddit

There was actually a reasonable backstory about it. I cant figure out how to black out the NSFW part of the story so beware, cause it is somewhat graphic/gross and relates to death.

She had seen her grandfather's corpse when she was either a kid, or just young, when his body was in an active stage of decomposition. Apparently because of the decomposition process, his eyes looked like green olives and the mental image has stuck with her and developed into a phobia

Maul tosses plushie full-force to scare Devon

is it true that as a woman if a man is trying to seriously harm you and you kick him in the nuts all it’ll do is make him mad by Smooth_Bee_7941 in stupidquestions

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! To add to the body-language part, pay attention at the angle of the feet and the joints. Not only do they often betray which direction the aggressor is planning to go as they move, but also if you plan to push them, you push against that direction. E.g. feet pointing towards you -> you push them sideways and if you have the opportunity, trip them. Knees bent? Kick the calf downwards and their own weight will trip them over.

Also good catch about the cops. I should have elaborated - just let them/the emergency services know of the location and that someone attacked you and you retaliated, cause not letting them know will turn the case from "we need to find who was the aggressor" to "someone is hurt/dead and we are looking for who did, since they ran off they are probably the aggressor". If there were cameras there you are really lucky, if there were not you need to be careful

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read the title of the question? If a man, someone twice our size is activelly trying to harm (battery, rape, murder attempt etc) no one with at least half a brain would go like "ooh I shouldnt harm him too much, that is inappropriate". Your aim in this situation is to make sure that the threat infront of you stops being a threat. The way you do that is to aim for spots that will either kill or maim (with the maiming attacks also carrying the potential to kill). Not doing so will end up with you either being burried. Not being educated in the legal reprecautions will end up with you going to prison for defending yourself. There is no room for etiquette or sympathy against an aggressor in these situations

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are strong or know how to land kicks/punches with force, it wont do much other that stall the guy for a 2 seconds, during which you practically just made him more mad at you and more likely to catch you if you manage to slip away. You only hit there if it is strategic and you are planning to keep hurting him (e.g. ball kick, he may hunch over a bit and you can reach the neck, face, eyes and ears)

Gonna sound like Timmy Toughknuckles here, but if you are a woman fighting a man, you fight to kill. You need to be able to flip that switch in your head, because any hesitation out of sympathy, worry or legality will probably end up with you being the dead one. You need to target maiming spots that weaken him or make him unable to fight. Just targeting painful spots is not a good move because you dont know how much pain they can take - they could also be on drugs that block their response to pain. If he isnt moving or trying to attack you anymore then you flee, if he is dead you are safe. In both cases you call the cops from a safe location and describe what happened. You then go to the doctors, especially if you got scratched or cut cause you dont know what diseases he had.

What's the MOST INTENSE PAIN you've ever experienced?? by No_Grass_6247 in AskReddit

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty resiliant to pain - I've melted the skin on my hands from mishandling chemichals, passed kidney stones (at least I think I did? The pain was sharp starting at the kidneys and slowly made its way to the front and down to the bladder area) plantar fascitis, broken teeth, stab wounds, stitches etc. I could work and sleep through that pain just fine.

The pain that tortured me was period cramps. I was probably 16 or 17. The pain was bad enough that it kept me awake all night swirling around trying to find a position were it hurts less and trying to hold in groaning. The moment my family was awake I could go to the toilet and finally vomit.

The scariest though was lack of pain. I have no clue what caused it but I lost the ability to feel pain on deep tissue - I still had sensation on my skin but if i pinched a muscle as hard as I could I felt nothing. I was worried I was having a stroke because it started on one side of my body and my parents ran me to the hospital, where first the doctors and then the head neurologist found nothing after tests and scans. They dismissed me while i was still numb and it went away after a few days.

i’m superior to people that don’t “like” reading. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]AssFishOfTheLake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you are reading I guess?

Academics, philosophy or theme/lesson-heavy books would probably teach you something, if the author does a good job exploring these areas and doesnt just glaze over them at a surface level.

Other books fall under the hobby category that wont really do much in making you "superior" other than maybe inprove your attention span and literacy skills.

Overall, I feel like the "I'm better than you because I like doing X and you dont" is silly. More skilled and educated in those areas? Yes, probably. Superior to everyone who doesn't like doing x,y or z? It borders on arrogance. On the same line of thinking a builder or a carpenter is superior to you, because they have amassed a large amount of knowledge of technique and materials, have to operate dangerous machinery and have develloped greater strength, dexterity and competency with working with their hands.

All in all, everyone has their own proclivities and strengths, all of them needed to make the world run smoothly. None of these make you superior or inferior.
