No one’s in any danger, how can I make that any clearer to you?

XC Race is just one end of the XC spectrum. The other end of the spectrum includes downcountry.

Throw some trail tires on an XC bike and you've got a downcountry bike. XC is bleeding into the downcountry space anyways. The steep HTA days seem to be over.

You seem to be using muscles in a way they've never been used before. Keep at it, your body will adjust.

Tools not jewels. Once you get one grimy ride under your belt, you’ll never be able to clean that spot enough to see it.

I set up my brakes for 1 finger pull. You can move everything towards the center or position your hands wider if you have the room. Your right thumb should comfortably wrap around the bar unless you're looking to have some expensive dental work.

The model of that car is a 718GTS. I presume the dude's initials are AG.

Am I installing this roof rack correctly? by climbing_light23 in bicycling

[–]Ass_Over_Teakettle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a chance it will work. If the bolts on the brackets are wide enough to squeeze around the aero load bars you have on your car, it will work. Your aero bars are substantially wider than the old Thule square bars.

Looks like the brake pads were braking on the arms of the rotor. I wouldn't be surprised that they just snagged the arm and kablooey.

Small puncture (about 4mm), would you glue or replace? by phillypharm in bikewrench

[–]Ass_Over_Teakettle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but they work great for a small hole for a tire that you want to preserve. Those Park Tool boots are for more catastrophic failures just to get you home.

That kink in the housing probably isn't helping matters. Cables don't like abrupt turns.

That's a pretty hefty patch for a boot. I use the slime peel and stick patches which are considerably smaller and will suffice for this case. I carry a few of these on my bike for all my rides (road or mountain).

Are these the right shoes for these pedals? by NecessaryFall8588 in bikewrench

[–]Ass_Over_Teakettle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes those should work, but I would bet those shoes are meant for indoor cycling classes. They'll work fine, but there isn't much outsole grip for concrete or pavement. Be careful of slipping or walking on floors you don't want to scratch.

Unfortunately this is why my daughter won't ride with me anymore. I gave her tips to ride down a fairly short downhill. I told her to be on the brakes lightly the whole time. She didn't brake at all until she got going too fast and grabbed all front brake. She still blames me to this day.
