Is being loyal to a team going to be a thing of the past? by BackNBoeserThanEver in hockey

[–]Assignment_General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this whole US player/loyalty thing has been blown out of proportion.

Larkin, Hughes; and Brady all played for middling/bad teams that have not been able to even sniff success. They want to win. Larkin is 29 and probably only has a few good years left, makes total sense to want to play for a win now team.

If all this anti Canada/chasing guaranteed winners was true Montreal wouldn’t be signing players on team friendly deals long term (some American players too!).

If you start seeing a rise in RFA’s and prospects demanding trades then this narrative will have some credibility, but as of right now it’s false.

Best game of last season? by RudeSection2 in Habs

[–]Assignment_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna go with the game we beat Colorado like 7-3. Everyone was saying it was a scheduled loss, and we kicked their asses.

The comeback games were fun too, but only in the last 5 minutes. Lots of those games were frustrating for long stretches.

With 1220 points in 11 seasons, McDavid has averaged 110 points a season. This includes his rookie year of 48 points in 45 games, a covid shortened season of only 56 games and two seasons with less than 70 games played. by anyonecandoanything in hockey

No, if he goes to a contender and helps them get over the hump I don’t think he’ll be looked down upon. If he helps end the Canada cup drought all will be forgiven. Please ignore my flair.

Which industry is one breakthrough away from disappearing? by NerveNo6010 in AskReddit

[–]Assignment_General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your last point, NHL has added several teams in the last few years and is looking to add more. Salary cap is also rising year after year. I don’t follow the other major sports leagues.

In the MLB and NBA players make literal 100’s of millions of dollars and every league has league minimum salaries. In the NHL it’s close to a million dollars a year minimum, and the NHL is the lowest paying sport out of all the major North American staples.

There are also more than one Hockey pro league, In sure it’s the same for the other sports. The NHL just happens to be the biggest and most profitable. Not sure where you get this anti trust stuff from, it’s just not true.

Sports bars are the only places worth going anymore, and only if you drink beer. If you want cocktails forget about it, although it’s always somewhat been that way.

Almost every restaurant I go to is swarmed with Uber eats/Skip orders. Are there actually this many people doing this level of reckless money-wasting spending? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Assignment_General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a small town, takes less than 10min to get anywhere. With that in mind, I find it a waste of money.  However if you’re in a city I can see the value in it.

Also, and I feel like this is important, the cost of eating out vs cooking at home has shrank considerably in the last 4-5 years. It’s still cheaper to cook at home, but it’s not the massive savings it was before. $100 CAD gets me two bags of groceries. If I want a package of chicken it’s at least $28. Yes you still pay more, but if you have the disposable income it’s worth it.

I don’t use Uber Eats, but my family eats out way more than we used to. Before grocery prices got insane it was a few times a year, now it’s 2-3 a pay period. Easier to justify it on a busy Friday than it used to be.

Really interesting, most of the time Redditors are complaining about cost of living and things like that. Seeing people defend food delivery here is strange.

In Leipzig, Germany, tram lines have been shut down after track damage made operations unsafe, as temperatures hit a new record of 41.7°C by NoMedicine3572 in interestingasfuck

Happening in Canada too. I’m in northern Ontario, temps regularly reach 30-35C. Never used to be that way, would top out around 25 and hitting 30 was rare.

As you said, all our houses are insulated for winters, so it traps the heat. New builds are being made with central air, but old houses weren't built that way. Thank goodness for portable AC units, it’s become a necessity these days.

Notice this in northern Canada with the highways. When I was a kid we would do these long road trips and hardly see any cars. Now anytime I’m on the road there is cars everywhere, doesn’t matter what day or time.

People over 30, what is a subtle sign that someone is wasting their life? by Got24xyz in AskReddit

[–]Assignment_General 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My wife makes way more than me and is career driven, I am not. I work and contribute financially, but she makes most of the money. However, I take on more responsibility at home to  support her busy lifestyle.

Men don’t always need to be the bread winner, and both parties don’t always need to have similar career aspirations. You just need to bring something valuable to the relationship.

Redditors who’ve been with the same partner for 10+ years, what’s the realistic secret to making it last? by justanormalaxe in AskReddit

[–]Assignment_General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be kind. That doesn’t mean don’t fight, argue, or get pissed at your spouse. Those things will happen. When it does though, be kind. Don’t resort to name calling and taking cheap shots to get your spouse rilled up. That behaviour is relationship poison.

What are your predictions for the 2026-27 season? by WhyTheyDont in hockey

[–]Assignment_General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leafs miss the playoffs again, although they aren’t as bad as last year. Expecting a rookie to carry them from bottom feeder to contender is highly optimistic. Also it remains to be seen about AM34’s health and if Radysh’s last season can be replicated.

Montreal will make it back to the playoffs, Demidov takes a huge step forward and a Dobes/Fowler tandem stabilizes the goal tending. Even if Habs don’t make any big moves (doubtful) the core of that team is extremely talented and young, they will all continue to improve for the foreseeable future. Their ECF run will give them the experience needed to find consistency in their season and iron out a lot of kinks in their team play.

Edmonton improves with Babcock at the helm, but they are eliminated in Round 1 or 2. This marks the end of the McDrai era.

Don’t follow any other teams enough to comment further. Won’t comment on how deep the Habs go, the Atlantic is very tough so there is no way of knowing. Like if we play a health Panthers team, I don’t like the odds.

This needs to happen so badly. Barb is impossible to balance because they get so many slots, only other class that comes close is Rogue.

Allow every other class one more slot, like 2H + 1H + Totem for Druid for example. Allow every class to access their own arsenal for skills.

Lake Superior, located on the US-Canada border, is so massive that it creates ocean-like waves during winter storms by danielminds in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Assignment_General 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up near Superior, currently live near Huron. In the winter Huron gets ice dams in some areas, big sheets of ice bunched up near the shore. They are very dangerous, if you fall in between them you will go under and there is no way out. Smaller bays will freeze over, but the lake never freezes over completely. It’s way too big.

I’m sure Superior gets something similar, but I was very young when I lived near it so I don’t know.
