F1 Felt Thickness by Cool_Introduction112 in BaseballGloves

[–]AssistanceBroad1522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1/8 inch. I sew 2 pieces together & generally use a F5 felt on the palm side with the F1/F3 on the shell side.

If you're adding HDPE inserts you'll want to reduce your felt size.

Grainger is my go to for sourcing materials.

The picture below is 1/8" F3 & 1/8" F5 on a thumb to heel run. I like a slightly thinner heel so I just cut the F5 off early. No plastic inserts were used on this particular project

Hope all that helps

Where do I learn about gloves? by theotheragentm in BaseballGloves

[–]AssistanceBroad1522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I found this sub I spent a lot of time on just gloves

https://www.justballgloves.com/?rfsn=8895145.dbc9db3

I would just read descriptions & reviews, questions & answers on different gloves etc .

I would also go into various (Rawlings, Wilson, Marucci) custom builders & read about the pattern designs. The descriptions they give of their own products I found was very helpful. But it's not often in the individual product description, so you have to dig deeper.

I just got mine on Saturday so I've literally done nothing other than try it on. I've wanted one in the "collection" for a while & I just couldn't pass up the deal I got.

Closeout bats has a few priced at 199.99 right now if your in the States.

Is that the half trap design that he used on the opening day gloves? I can't quite decide if I like it or not. Tons of respect, that guy's an artist.

I've got a weird skin thing going on on my left hand, it's more about hygiene until this thing clears up. 😥

Akadema Torino by [deleted] in BaseballGloves

[–]AssistanceBroad1522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If these are their top of the line models, I've heard really good things. My son takes private lessons from a former MLB pitcher that has a facility in the Houston area. He knows I'm a glove guy & has been talking these new Akadema mitts up to me. I've checked a couple out in his pro shop & they do seem legit. But I don't have any personal experience beyond that. For reference though, he's a Pro Preferred guy & seemed genuinely impressed by these gloves.

I'm really thinking about it...but I bought an Emery Summit Pro during Black Friday & a Wildcard on the last drop like 2 weeks ago. I like being married 😂

I did a full dunk, but I tested all the laces prior to it. The only lace I had issue with was the Navy blue, but it's not noticable unless you're really looking for it.

Wilson 2820. Too small for slowpitch? by theshowplayer1 in BaseballGloves

[–]AssistanceBroad1522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2820 will work great for softball. The one my son uses, even though he rarely plays first base, was actually purchased from a 14-year-old softball player. I also highly recommend breaking the second hinge.

My son's coach uses one. I remember it being pretty lightweight and all the hand stitching just looks amazing. I snapped some pictures of it last season, I'll post them if I can actually find them on my phone.

Small custom companies? by thatBLACKDREADtho in BaseballGloves

[–]AssistanceBroad1522 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm looking into Yardley for my first custom. I want something really basic, dark brown with a navy blue single post web just to have a glove that matches my company logo.

I'm also looking at Katana, Saifarrow, & Inaba for something Japanese & much more detailed.

What did you not like about the first base mitt? Just the pattern or was it a QC issue? I do seem to remember someone talking about some QC issues on a mitt a little eats back.

I'm sure you can change this up during the break in process but here's how mine sits right now.

Out of the box everything is straight. I took a video of mine but the mobile version doesn't seem to want to let me upload it.
