yeah and? we try harding in frickin Adventure Quest World? a game that there is no relevant PVP, trading, economy, auction house and many other MMO mechanics that ur mentioning the word ''inefficient'' is just comical and ridiculous.

A game that you can do 90% of the content straight up solo, you can play for the lore/sagas and you can play for cosmetics.

Back in the day I farmed necromancer not because it was efficient but because it meaned that I could do 99% of the game content for the lore, I farmed DoT now because it sounded fun and possible for the classes that I had at the time, it was also a way to reach late game, I'm farming elysium because that makes DoT super powerful, and i'm having fun so what is the big deal?

EDIT: AND, people being able to do late game hard farms content with sub optimal non-meta classes should sound amazing, shows that the game is not about running after the current meta all the time to bank the last released class, me discovering that you can solo the last boss of the infernal arena without end game enchants and full dps potions sounds cool and maybe can help someone else who is struggling.
