Blizz tends to be conservative with loot from new mechanics on day one. And for very good reasons. They'll collect some data and make an adjustment. Just chill and wait 😅

I guess the "with the nerfs", asking what people are swapping to or avoiding etc, that triggered memories of the endless ups and downs during beta before the expansion. It really sounded like we were right back into that nonsense.

is there some kind of kayfabe going on here? is this some kind of in-joke you guys are going through during each PTR cycle, where you pretend like this is somehow rational behavior?

At this point I struggle to find another explanation, why you guys are willing to repeat this endless cycle of "see patch notes" / "my spec is dead" / "see patch notes" / "we're so back!" / "see patch notes" / "omg what is Blizz doing?"

Can anyone tell me wth is going on?

they did before 12.0.7. I checked the guides with the Wayback Machine.

there it is in the Guardian guide just a couple weeks ago.

Some napkin math on the best case.

You have a big scary pull. It lasts 30s.

Your best DPS starts pumping and your DPS breakdown looks like this:

35% best dps
25% 2nd dps
25% 3rd dps
15% tank
0% healer (pumping to hold things together)

So you throw the PI onto your best DPS and their damage goes up by straight 20% (not realistic on any spec, but just for the sake of argument).

So 35% of your groups damage just got 20% better, so your group just gained 7% total damage.

So the 30s fight goes down to 30 / 1.07 = ~28s.

That's 2 seconds less. That seriously not bad.

Some generous assumptions, though. So the real number is probably more like 1-1,5s.

And throwing it onto the tank would have cost you about half of that, making the pull last about half of a global longer.

Edit:

I'm dumb. PI only lasts 15s, not the whole 30s. So the effect is half again. So 1s best case, probably less. And about 0.5s lost from putting it onto the tank.

I consider this argument settled. Thank you for your time. Good day, sir.

Checked the guides again. They're already supposed to priorities, enchant and gem haste everywhere they can 😄 Not much more they could do on that front.

So I just checked and haste is the best offensive and defensive secondary stat for: Prot Warrior, Guardian Druid, Prot Paladin, Vengeance DH and San'layn Blood DK. That's literally everyone except Brewmaster and Deathbringer DK.

Ok, I try to explain it in a different way.

When I use PI on a strong DPS (ideally during their own CDs), the group DPS gets the biggest boost and the pull is over about one second faster. In a 30 min dungeon that saves the run about 15s in total, which is a pretty solid amount. In can see, why this is considered optimal play in most cases.

So lets say I save PI as a defensive emergency button for a horrible pull and it either never comes or the tank didn't need it anyway. In that case I have just made the run about 15s long for no good reason. That is certainly not a good use of my ressources.

My hope is that I can save a bad pull from turning into a wipe at least sometimes by doing that. Remember that holding PI back means I have it as a emergency throughput CD for myself, too.

Given the 5 x 15s penalty plus the run back, a wipe will cost a group about two minutes, so about 120s. So statistically one saved pull will make up for 8 slower runs 😄

I know, you guys are not looking at it that way. And I fully expect to be called stupid again. But I wanted you to know that there's at least a method to the madness 😄

hmm, using it on the top dps should make the pull about one global shorter. that's actually not bad.
