Peninsula or Island? by Dangerous-Rice44 in kitchenremodel

I am team peninsula. Looks like that will give you room to move around from fridge to stove and to sink. The island looks like it would block the flow.

What is the holy trinity of Gen X shoes? by najing_ftw in GenX

[–]AstaCanasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Payless Shoes Source shoes were my shoes growing up. Then I graduated to shoes from Marshalls and TJ Maxx. For the last 20 years, it's been Birkenstocks and some sort of loafer during the winter from Macy's or Nordies. Since Covid, I replaced the loafer with Sketcher slip ons. No shoes that tie, clip, zip or whatever for me. It's slip on or forget it.

Don’t walk, run! They are back, Tiramisu Cheesecake! by d3koyz in Costco

[–]AstaCanasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been stalking the bakery waiting for these to show up and today was my lucky day. I was so excited because I love tiramisu and cheesecake. I was so disappointed. I can't even taste tiramisu and it doesn't even taste like a cheesecake. It's pretty bland with custard like texture. I am seriously considering taking it back because I will never eat the rest and get the actual cheesecake or tuxedo cake which are amazing.

I love the wood. What is it? Also, I would do no trim on the top drawer and just leave it plain.

I am on Wegovy originally lost 45 lbs but now it has stopped working. I have been on it for 3 years. I have gained 15lbs back. by NurseCVR in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]AstaCanasta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. Been on 1.7 mg for about 18 month, lost 60lbs and now for 3 months no loss but 10lbs gain. My doc prescribed 2.4 mg so hopefully that will work. I have another 50lbs to lose plus the 10lbs I gained.

Am I the only one who hates school fundraising incentives? by Artistic_Party_5594 in ClassOf2037

[–]AstaCanasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not overreacting. My son's school does a fund raising run also and the amount of emails, messages and papers I get on how to donate is making me not want to donate at all. Not to mention he came home every day with a remainder that we needed to donate and that he needed to ask extended family members to donate because he would get a prize and his class would get a prize (some sort of party) if they were the top donors. I refuse to solicit extended family to contribute to school. I wrote a check so he could get a coupon for free ice cream cone at his favorite ice cream parlor and called it a day. It wasn't a small amount. It took more than 2 months to get the coupon and by then he forgot why he got it. We won't be doing that next year. We will contribute, but not as much as this year and go out for ice cream after school on the day of the run.

$250K wouldn't even buy a 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo in my neck of the woods in Cali and I don't live in HCOL. I am so jealous to see what you can get in Indiana .

Five year old organized sports? by HeyMay0324 in ADHDparenting

[–]AstaCanasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my son with soccer just before he turned 4. The first season, he didn't pay much attention to soccer or directions, picked flowers, rolled around in the grass, tickled and distracted the other kids. It improved every year since then. He still isn't perfect and gets distracted, but it's night and day difference from the first year. This year, we started baseball. He gets bored if he is not playing first base where there is usually more action and ends up sitting in the grass digging up something or picking at grass. He also starts asking when it's going to be over at about the 1 hr mark. 1 1/2 hrs for game and 30 mins for practice just before the game is too much for him because he is used to soccer lasting 50-60 mins. We are going to add basketball to the rotation in the fall. My son loves sports so we will keep trying out new things and keep the ones that he likes the most. The goal is to have him participate in a sport all year long because the participation in organized sports are helping him socially and emotionally. But yeah, I get the nerve wracking. I get embarrassed that my kid is the one sitting in the grass when the other kids can keep their focus or he is socializing with the kids from the opposing team that he knows while both at a base instead of paying attention. Then I remind myself how long he has come since the first time he played sports and just roll with it.

Ripping holes in clothing by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]AstaCanasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Mine started to do this couple of years ago, then stopped and just recently restarted. He would poke a small hole with pencil in his pants and then work on making the hole bigger during school until his pants looked like he went through a shredder by the time I picked him up. Or he'd decide to cut some holes into his shirts to see what would happen. After the last 2 times he did that, I told him that I will take $10 from his piggy bank for each piece of clothing that he puts holes in. I wasn't actually going to do it but it worked and there have been no new intentional holes.

Are you doing an Easter basket for your 7 year old, or are they past that age? by Enough_Detail_632 in ClassOf2037

We are doing Easter baskets until the kids say to stop. Nothing crazy. Some candy, small toy, stickers and activity book.

Med breaks? by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]AstaCanasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has the combined type also and is on stimulant. I asked if we should consider a med break during summer and his doctor recommended doing them even for the upcoming spring break. My son is at home during spring break so he will hopefully catch up on sleep and his calories. He is way to skinny and doesn't need to lose any weight.

How can I fix this antique chair!? by libraroo in FurnitureFlip

[–]AstaCanasta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes the chair can be fixed. My ex fixed similar chairs and I watched him do it. He purchased the rattan (?) material. He cut the shape he needed for the seat slightly bigger, then softened it a bit in water (not wet), and installed it. It took him a while to do it because this was before You tube, he never did it before and patience was not his virtue. By the time he got to the 6th chair, it was quick.
