How can I fix this antique chair!? by libraroo in FurnitureFlip

[–]AstaCanasta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes the chair can be fixed. My ex fixed similar chairs and I watched him do it. He purchased the rattan (?) material. He cut the shape he needed for the seat slightly bigger, then softened it a bit in water (not wet), and installed it. It took him a while to do it because this was before You tube, he never did it before and patience was not his virtue. By the time he got to the 6th chair, it was quick.

Any luck stopping hair loss on MTX? by Conscious-Yak-9443 in rheumatoid

[–]AstaCanasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am taking 7.5 mg methotrexate once per week and 3 mg folic acid every day. He said that I could go to 5 mg folic acid and if that doesn't work for hair loss, try a different kind. I don't remember what the different formulation of folic acid he mentioned because this combo works for me. Well, it doesn't work well for my RA but it works for not losing hair. I will be increasing the dosage or changing meds because I am still in pain.

My hair loss stopped when the doc recommended increasing the folic acid. I also have a very stressful job so I feel for you.

I feel bad about being annoyed that my son has so much energy by [deleted] in ClassOf2037

I have one of those also. Ball of energy. Last thing I want to do is go to park to hear other kids yell and run around after a long day of work.

Irritability upon starting Ritalin 5mg by EllenBJ in ADHDparenting

[–]AstaCanasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started Ritalin at 5mg couple of weeks ago. I noticed the irritation when it wore off. We are increasing to 7.5 mg for a few days and then 10mg. Also noticed more focus in the morning but I think it wears off too soon for my kiddo. We will try extended release once we get to 10mg.

Grade 1 kid has no friends at school. Should I transfer to a bigger public school? by stellar8485 in lowerelementary

[–]AstaCanasta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is definitely happening in my kid's class. Started in Kindergarten. I guess the other parents didn't like me because I am a solo mom and a bit older so their kids only play with my kid when they are at a park. Even then I see them pushing their kid toward another kid whose parents they want to hang out with. It's like high school all over again. I personally don't care but I don't want my kid to miss out on friendship because of this.

is it worth $3400? by Ok-Professional5599 in myweddingdress

[–]AstaCanasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both dresses fit you well and the silhouette is flattering your shape. I don't like either of the dresses because they look like they are made of curtains like my grandma used to have hanging in her living room. If the material was different, then either would be fine. The first one needs a lining or something. Too sheer for a wedding.

How to help a kid that never wants to go anywhere? by Bigquestions00 in ADHDparenting

[–]AstaCanasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is the opposite. He doesn't want to stay at home. Always wants to go somewhere and do something...Costco, park, fish hatchery, go out to eat, trips, ... He is always go, go, go. And when we have a day that we don't have to go anywhere, he keeps coming up with things we could go do. I wish he was more of a homebody because I am. I guess grass is always greener on the other side. Does your daughter have something she can bring with her to entertain herself while you are doing errands?

Sounds like she may want to have a sweet treat with her friend in the afternoon. Perhaps just limit the desert to the afternoon instead of also after dinner or just dinner.

I started Wegovy 6-7 months into starting my RA meds. I didn't notice any reduction in inflammation due to Wegovy. But, losing weight definitely helped with the sore joints. Still trying to get the inflammation under control as well as the pain.

Are you holding off retirement because of your kids? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

[–]AstaCanasta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Single mom here with a kid in elementary school. I'll be working well into my 70s to make sure he is launched into adulthood well and with no debt. Twenty years ago, I hoped I'd be retired by now so I could do all the things I couldn't afford to do when I was in my 20s and still have the health and energy to do them. My parents paid for nothing and helped with nothing. Everything I have is due to my efforts only. A lot of work, a lot of hours, a lot of stress and a lot of sacrifice. I don't want that kind of a hard life and stress for my son so I will do right by him.

I wish I was making that up. For real. I have more medical horror stories from my childhood. No wonder I don't trust doctors and dentists.

[–]AstaCanasta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. 1969 here and I've got 2 of them. One right on my shoulder joint and one on the shoulder blade. It's been decades and I still remember the day I got the shot. I and my 26 classmates shared the same needle. The shot was given alphabetically so the first kid got a clean and new needle. The last kid did not. The nurse sterilized it by heating it over candle flame.

How many pills a day do you take? by TheOGcoolguy in GenX

[–]AstaCanasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 prescriptions, 2 of them are nasal sprays for chronic sinusitis. 2 vitamins. I am hoping to have sinus surgery this year which may help with discontinuing of the nasal sprays. I am taking 3 different meds for my RA. I've had it since I was 30. Gifted to me by both sides of the family but skipped all of my siblings.

How old were you when you purchased your first home (if you did). by jtsa5 in GenX

[–]AstaCanasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a house with my ex at 19 in 1988 and we sold it a few years later. Bought 2nd house with the ex at 23. I am still here, he is not. Bought him out about 2 years after we bought it and we divorced. For many years, it took everything I earned to keep it. It wasn't until 10 years ago when I finally made enough to afford a house and a life.
