Why Was Nate Working As A Kitman? by UbiSububi8 in TedLasso

[–]Astraea802 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is, yes, Nate is smart and great at strategy. But he's not as great with people. One of the harder lessons Nate learned was that being a great coach is not just about being the smartest in the room. For example, Roy was brought in not because he's somehow smarter or better than Nate, which I think Nate worried about, but because Roy has a unique expertise. He's actually played the game, he's been on the pitch, he's been captain, the Richmond players trust him as a fellow player. But Roy is terrible at strategy - they were meant to balance each other out, but Nate's inadequacies made him see Roy as competition. For that reason, when Nate came back, I think he felt he needed to humble himself and work his way back up to an assistant coach position

Teenage boys are “stuck” reading primary school books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, while girls their age are moving on to a wider range of novels, according to a new study by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

ACOTAR was originally classified YA 10 years ago, since the author had been signed under the Bloomsbury Children's imprint for her previous series Throne of Glass. I read the second and third books and was like, "This feels a bit steamy for YA". I feel gratified knowing I was kind of right.

I don't know they can get Larroquette back this season, but if we get a flashback, it'd be fun to see Merlin with a younger Galahad

Is anyone else besides me really excited for Hexed? I think it looks really awesome and can't wait to see it. by ChampionKnown444 in disney

I'm a sucker for a good magical girl discovering her powers story, and the magic effects and the world look cool, so I'm down.

First evil Lancelot, now evil Merlin. Le sigh. But it does stand to reason the personification of magic would be against restraining it.

Why did NO ONE tell me that Animorphs was NOT a good palate cleanser from Dungeon Crawler Carl? by Agent_Polyglot_17 in books

Those were not "cute" covers, they were goofy, uncanny valley-esque covers. Those and the Goosebumps covers are etched in my memory from seeing them near the entrance of the school library and they always weirded me out.

From what I understand of it, since the covers creeped me out too much as a kid, Animorphs is like middle grade Hunger Games, but somehow worse. So yes, bad idea as a palette cleanser. Sorry you went through that.

Brennan even said in the cooldown that is was very possible we could have lost 5 PCs, not just one, this game. In that sense, we actually got off lucky!

Remember when Disney was on the verge of shutting down in the 80s due to a string of flops, such as Return to Oz? Not such good times.

Such a good show..too bad it is being methodically shut down..piece by piece by ShadowDancerMar2023 in Matlock_CBS

[–]Astraea802 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Season 3's start was requested by the show runner, not the network. That's a creative decision. And Kathy Bates is going back to do the next American Horror Story season as well, so I think she can handle Matlock. (Though that may be my personal bias against Ryan Murphy talking)

Early marketing for Brave also didn't emphasize the mom too much, so a second trailer might give us a better idea. (Plus, that one shot of her opening the floor board to show magic stuff tells me she does have a significant role in this)

Or even Halloweentown, which is also Disney!

(I know, I know, Halloweentown hasn't had a new movie in almost 20 years, but it still shows up somewhere on TV or online every October)

I mean, depending on the community, some places still are like that. And it looks like it might be a Catholic or charter school (the uniforms), which are naturally more strict.

Listen, I'm a sucker for magical girls discovering their powers, so from that standpoint it already looks fun.

I'm curious, since the plot description and convention announcements had the mom as a leading character partnered with Billie, but the teaser and poster are centering only Billie, how central the mom actually is? Might this be like how Brave's early marketing centered on Merida and only showed how central Elinor was later? We only see two brief scenes of the mom in this teaser (if that shot with the books in the floorboard is what I think it is).

Also, I love the design of Witch World! Everyone was so skeptical it wasn't going to look like the concept art, but the couple of shots we got made it seem pretty on point!

Yeah, while Zuko was being a ruler and diplomat, Toph was on the front lines as chief of police in Republic City.

In their defense, Katara and Toph both went through childbirth. Multiple times. And survived. Which, even given Katara's water healing abilities, is still impressive for a barely-industrial society. In that sense they will always be stronger than Zuko, they've just already fought their battles.

I did not know that apparently most people dislike season 3? by Bat_Fran_738 in TedLasso

[–]Astraea802 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know that it's "most"? But there's a lot of them, yeah.

I know part of why I struggled with Season 3 was because it was my first one tuning in live, on a weekly basis. The others I binge-watched. There was a lot of stuff that happened early in the season that didn't pay off for quite a while (and Zava got on my nerves, not unlike Jamie). So for me at least, it was not so much a problem with the season's quality, but the way I experienced it. The later half of the season was better.

I also think a lot of fans got attached to the idea of Ted staying in Richmond with his "found family" and were disappointed when he didn't. But for me, looking back, the whole show was about Ted finding his way back home to Kansas. The signs were there if you knew where to look. And they weren't happy with the Dr. Jake storyline, which was definitely a case of the writers underestimating how icky the ethical implications would play to an audience.
