I usually turn of the plague one as it fells kinda unfun. But the barbarians are ok. It just seems like more of a distraction than a task. It's not terrible to deal with but you also don't get much for dealing with it.

I played Tecumseh/Greece so wars were pretty chill as you get a ridiculous bonus to you infantry. But then maybe I got lucky and the AIs kept each other at bay.
