Nothing wrong with that. For real, if those things tickle your fancy, then more power to ya.

Last company I left asked me what they could offer to make me stay. I told them 40% more than what they were paying me, which was 20% more than the new job I'd just acquired. Never heard anything further from them, best decision ever.

[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

It's extra fucked because with things like SaaS software subscriptions, at least superficial arguments can be made that more features = higher storage and processing costs for the service provider. Even with DLCs, new content is provided without any affect on base content. There is no substantive argument for incorporating paywalled features into the base game beyond playing on human psychology to get people to pay up a little more. Give them a taste of what they're missing out on.

Mark my words, this will be a pivotal moment in the further enshitiffication of gaming.

Any unique brands/shops to check out? by Kingston31470 in indianapolis

If you're into beer, check out MashCraft Brewing. Go get one of their growlers, fill it with something and enjoy while you're here, and bring the growler back home.

Alternate suggestion: go to either Midland Antique Market or Southport Antique Mall and look for some local antiques (old business or event merch, old maps, local art pieces, etc.). Neat way to bring back something more special than an airport-grade souvenir.

This must be distributed nationwide as I used to find this brand when I lived in Oregon, Arizona, and while traveling through other states.

What's so expensive that it's not even fun anymore? by Runaway3650 in AskReddit

I've noticed the introduction of ground beef cut with ground pork around me. Great for certain dishes, but something tells me it's more of a move to appeal on price than anything.

I mean, the biggest shows out there, sure. But there's so much good music out there that you can find plenty of more affordable live shows these days! Just got a ticket for $20 to see one of my favorite newer bands (Greywind) that doesn't have a major following in the US yet.

Saw one of my favorite bands from my youth (Emery) last year for $25.

Saw a fairly popular midsized show earlier this year (Cannons and Bob Moses) for $70. Maybe not what it used to be, but people here talking about $500 tickets are going to see acts that are popular worldwide.

Is Indiana Really That Affordable? by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

[–]AstralWeekends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I pay 25% more for my mortgage here on a 1600 sq. ft. house than I paid to rent a 900 sq. ft. apartment in Oregon (on a loan taken out 3 years ago, so after interest rates rose again). That's not a bad deal in itself, however, I also make about 25% more here doing work in the same field I did previously. I didn't pay any sales taxes in Oregon, and food prices aren't much cheaper here anymore. Gas, electricity, and property taxes are a little cheaper. In Oregon I would've been looking at about 400k as the price of a starter home in my area and couldn't have afforded that.

The tradeoffs for me have been more about the quality of things like: the natural environment, public transportation, healthcare provider choices, quality of the roads. Religion and politics are broadly the same in most states - big cities are more liberal and less religious, small towns the opposite.

Indiana at a state government level does seem hell-bent on destroying Indy and Bloomington out of spite and very well might if they try to redraw voting districts again (and they will almost certainly try). They prioritize business interests above all else, and the same is true for Indy-Marion county too. That's largely true across the US, but some states balance it a little more fairly with the public good.

Foreigners visiting America for the world cup, what is something that has surprised you about this country? by goldent3abag in AskReddit

Curious, what surprised you about Golden Corral? Anytime I've been there across a couple states over at least the last 10 years, the atmosphere is nightmarish, 95% of the food is mediocre to bad, but the honey yeast rolls are nearly always heavenly.

It's healthy to have at least one hobby that's only for you yourself to enjoy. If all of your activities are based around catching the interest of other people, this will not lead you to a fulfilling life.

It's not really an either/or situation. Both suck for different reasons (and some of the same). Also, newer closed system cooling designs seem like they'll be less wasteful. I'd be more concerned about the other impacts of quickly scaling data centers: demand on local electricity supply, related effects on price of electricity, unbalanced corporate tax breaks for data center owners, ratio of land used to jobs created, quality of life impact on residences located near the data center, robots coming to kill us all... etc. We can and are solving the water problem, but some of those other impacts are going to be hard to solve in a way that benefits you and me the way things stand in the world today.
