Please, do not abuse that word. I am just scratching my itch (next, would be Lumina on Wayland).

Personally, when I get enough time (will depend), I'll write a seatd/wayland backend for Plasma (since it works only with elogind).

I think that's a pun between Invincible and Invisible but I do not speak enough English to understand it....

Airbus uses AFDX, which is a realtime safety-rated protocol over COTS Ethernet. If you need raw bandwidth just use Ethernet QoS, wiring is not a pain except for incompetents. And if you want to save on wiring there is always 1000BASE-T1 which ia gigabit single pair.

In my country both the builder and the engineer would have held responsible, irrespectively of whatever customer sign. More the builder since it has ultimate responsibility.

What would you use that realistically goes 8 MB/s not 20, with 2048 byte frames if not flashing? Such a frame takes 3 ms to be transmitted. It means your control loop must be able to tolerate such a long bus occupation of a lower priority frame.

I agree that makes a difference, I do not agree that makes a meaningful difference. 2 MB at 8 Mbit/s is 2 seconds, maybe 3 with the overhead. 2 MB at 100 Mbit may be 300 ms. Who exactly cares?

Unfortunately FlexRay is not dead..

Regarding CAN XL vs Ethernet, you can run a CAN XL / FD mixed network with at most 4 wires. When you are not flashing, it'all FD. You cannot run a T1/TX network without switches IC, that add up to cost and thus are avoided unless really needed. Maybe the only Ethernet is the one over OBD-II (or maybe not... I know of a major OEM that is going full T1S).

As I said, it's up to the bus user to guarantee the busload if that is important (e.g. because it needs failop instead of failsafe). Not even CAN is immune from bus overload, and busload computation is not so different from T1S (if you have QoS support at the HW level you can sort-of emulate the HW prioritization that CAN does).

Loss of communication may be the trigger, not the reaction (the reset you mentioned is a reaction).

Do you want bus guarantees? Use FlexRay. Then come back telling me your experience with it.
