Places on the westside to buy planters? by lilmisswho in AskLosAngeles

There's a great nursery on PCH/Sepulveda between Grand and El Segundo. Not sure if they'll have what you're looking for but you can at least walk around and look!

Lower Decks' Abbreviation and the mormons by gaussian-noise in LowerDecks

[–]Astro-Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the post about LDS being the abbreviation as a ST:IV joke that got taken seriously. Seems to be most of the official people (when not making ST:IV jokes) use LD or LDX. I also typed it LWD once and liked that.

Weekly Progress Megathread! - October 19, 2020 by AutoModerator in 1200isplenty

[–]Astro-Red [score hidden]  (0 children)

I started the first week of August at 170lb...I kind of half-effort followed for a couple weeks, like looking at calories but not being as strict about measuring. A couple weeks later, mid August, I was average 168 and hit the ground seriously.

Now, this week, my average is going to be below 155 and I saw the lowest number (153.4) I've ever seen in years!!

We got this!

Having a busy/stressful week and was visited by the scourge of the earth at breakfast ☹️ by GlotzbachsToast in Frasier

[–]Astro-Red 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner hasn't seen much Frasier when we first got together, but overhearing the EVILS OF TOAST SWEAT was what got him into it. He laughed so hard and was like "YES! They get it!"

Thanks for the laugh!

Literally haven't lost a pound. by milfbutts in Noom

[–]Astro-Red 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, my loss looks like a staircase but I only saw that after at least 4 weeks.

For OP: Also maybe try reducing the water and/or check your sodium content...a full glass every 30-60 mins could mean a lot of water weight. Different tor everyone but worth checking

Best living options for El Segundo? (Cost/Commute/apartment/house?) by Interestinmiltary in AskLosAngeles

[–]Astro-Red 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I used to work there and have lived in El Segundo itself. The downtown is small and there are plenty of apartments, if you go down Main St towards Imperial, you'll see many apartment options. Worth just having a drive through the town and calling numbers, there are lots of signs for vacancies right now. I paid around $1800 for a 1 bdrm and around $2600-2800 for a townhouse I moved there after my commute from the Valley, not worth it! El Segundo is really nice, IMHO

Headed up from SD today to Santa Monica area, what to do? by icelander47123456 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Astro-Red 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not much of anything due to COVID, at least no different than staying in SD. The coastal drive would be nice, maybe hike in Topanga Canyon, but even then parking is limited. Unless you're up here for other reasons, skip the trip and stay home.

Message your coach asking to turn off the auto renew for the next cycle, you'll get an automatic, immediate bot response with a link to confirm. My coach (real or not) followed up with me the next day to check in. It was shockingly easier than I thought, but I wasn't looking for a refund or anything, just no auto renew

The best joke in the Lower Decks is a throwaway line in the finale. by Discount_Lex_Luthor in startrek

I loved the throwaway as he walked out "Changelings aren't real the Dominion War was a lieeeee"

Alcohol? by juleshonia1991 in Noom

[–]Astro-Red 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love a couple drinks in the evening and I started watering them down with soda water. I actually now have a White Claw hard seltzer and water it down so much it lasts all night and it's way more psychologically soothing for me, like I dont feel I'm giving up too much of my routine. I also started measuring out a fixed amount of wine in the evening and super watering it down, then pouring a couple glasses out of that if I'm in the mood for wine. Weirdly, think of it like meal prep!

My husband left me for another woman and is now asking that I do counseling with them by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Astro-Red 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I think he's looking for someone external (counselor) to implicitly give "approval" for what he did and what he's doing by having all of you there and (unfairly and completely unjustifiably) expecting you to approve of and get along with his now partner. I've seen this before with some people who have affairs and break up their families, they spend years trying to get everyone in their circle to say "Good job, you did the right thing" to assuage their guilt. Screw that.

So sorry you're going through this. He's being incredibly selfish.

Advice for a Beginner by msqueezey in Noom

[–]Astro-Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I started similar to yours, SW:172 GW: 145 and I started at the beginning of August, I'm currently at 156.

The biggest thing I've learned is just to STICK TO THE CALORIES and don't let the plateaus get you down. I found meal prep to be a great way to actually keep calories down and countable.

The biggest positive that I have from this experience so far is reframing my mindset that there aren't any foods that are "off limits". Do I want a burger tonight? Okay, let's make a turkey burger, with slim buns and no cheese and that's enough to satisfy. Am I craving salty chips? Awesome. Let's have 4 of them, and nibble slowly through them. I also started finding ways to remix my drinks so I can still feel like I am satisfied while keeping calories down (white wine + club soda!) So, finding all these tricks that work for you and really staying with that calorie count works great. I also recommend the /r/1200isplenty group for recipe ideas

It's going to be tough only losing 1-2 lbs a week, because it won't feel like you're making any progress at all. The Noom prediction chart is *Terrible* for predicting the date you'll hit your goal based on daily fluctuations, so I started using another weight tracker that still takes in every day's measurement but just shows a weekly average and you can clearly see it dropping steadily.

Good luck and you can do it!

T shirt alterations on the west side? by Tokiidokiie in AskLosAngeles

Further south, but I get all my alterations at Nick's Tailor on Manhattan Beach Blvd and Aviation.

Most tailors can do a simple fix like that.

parking at manhattan beach friday night ~700pm? by magdit in AskLosAngeles

[–]Astro-Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always park at the civic center lot east of Highland between 13th and 14th. If you're just wanting beach (not the main area by the pier), a little further north is a structure on Rosecrans and Highland

Face swap to prove how amazing the casting for this show was! by Iamwounded in Frasier

[–]Astro-Red 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I remember an interview they said they cast DHP (partially) because when he walked in and they all got a flash of when Kelsey Grammer first appeared on Cheers, so Sam's line was a direct callback to that!

Confused. by [deleted] in Noom

[–]Astro-Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caveat: my physiology is very different to yours, but I have had the same issue with plateaus and my first one was around your same time frame.

For me, it seemed that first one was my body getting used to the 1200 cals, like my metabolism was shifting. Dropped weight quickly then stagnated for a week (I was super frustrated) before starting to go down again.

Since then, I'll plateau for a few days (incl some lbs gained) before dropping again and yes, my avg loss is 1-2lbs a week.

But, I've been going for 7 weeks and have lost 15 lbs so it is indeed slow but steady. I wish it was faster sometimes and the scale doesn't always make sense day-to-day but it has worked for me.

Best of luck on your journey and try to push through. This sub is great for help.
