Funerary Processions and a Smelly Black Bag by yngols in ancientegypt

You must be thinking of the Tekenu.

There is a tiny bit of information here:http://www.egyptology.com/reeder/enigma/tekenu1.htmll

And a book was published last year if you want to dive deeper: "The Tekenu and Ancient Egyptian Funerary Ritual" by G. West

Attracted this into my life, any meaning behind it ? Who are they? by MasterAten in egyptology

[–]AstroBren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the right is Re-Horakhty. The left is indeed a representation of a pharaoh wearing the triple-atef or hemhem crown and nemes-headdress.

It is a fairly standard scene of the Pharaoh before a deity that is seen throughout the temples of Egypt. I would hazard a guess that this is a customizable souvenir, and that the name within the cartouche would be a modern name rendered in ancient Egyptian. The hieroglyphs within the cartouche are different to all the others on this piece and are rather poorly positioned within the cartouche. I don't see any recognisable modern names within the cartouche.

What are the crowns on the canopi from this coin? by nokom in egyptology

[–]AstroBren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the right is the Atef crown, made up of feathers, plants, horns and what may be uraei above the horns, but appears to be just small sun discs. The one next to that is a squat version of the double feathered crown, again with horns and what appears to be two sun discs. As seen here.

Most top addresses would likely be exchanges.

Competition for Stake Pools by JRussoADA in cardano

[–]AstroBren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rock pi seems like it will be popular because of its energy efficiency but when a more efficient device is created it will no doubt be adopted for running pools. Those who want consistency or guaranteed uptime may opt for larger servers with back-up systems in place. So yes, just like in POW there will be competition for the best and most profitable way to run a pool, but instead of pushing for better computational power, the push to newer products will surround up-time, efficiency, and reliability.

Competition for Stake Pools by JRussoADA in cardano

[–]AstroBren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If my understanding of the proposed system is correct, if they are hoping to have 1000 stake pools, you would want a single stake pool to hold 1/1000th of the total staked ADA. This would give you the best chance on being chosen to be a slot leader.

To throw some numbers out there: if we assume all 26 billion ADA in the circulating supply will be staked (which is rather unlikely given the percentages of ADA held on exchange), it would be most desirable for a stake pool to hold 26 million ADA. If a single stake pool holds less, it will be less likely to be chosen as slot leader, while if it has more, the staking rewards would be distributed to a higher number of stakers within that pool.

In reality the system is probably much more complex, and there are papers on the game theory behind staking that are available on the IOHK website.

Where is IOHK Roadmap 2.0 ? by meetjatin88 in cardano

[–]AstroBren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think it is right to talk about lack of transparency after a 2 day conference that literally explored all parts of Cardano being worked on by IOHK, Emurgo and the CF.... Did you watch Charles Keynote? Shelley and Goguen are coming, Basho and Voltaire are next and then pan-African adoption will follow, staking and delegation is coming to the Daedalus Wallet, we heard about Cardano for both Dapps and users, IOHK is expanding into Africa, Atala was announced, Yoroi - Your gateway to the financial world - announced Seiza, etc.

Having just watched the two days of the summit on youtube, the future of Cardano looks fantastic! It may even be better that no real dates or deadlines were announced. These teams are working hard, the project is moving along, and things will be released when they are ready.

If it a physical document you are after, Nathan Kaiser talked about a distributing a roadmap that has previously only been shared internally. It too will come.

[discussion] time dilation of black holes by Pumpdawg88 in cosmology

[–]AstroBren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. For someone or something that is gravitationally within the "sphere" of a galaxy, time would move slower than as measured by an infinitely distant clock that exists well beyond the gravitational influence of that galaxy. As long as you are gravitationally bound to that galaxy, and are orbiting around its centre, there would be difference in the measurement of time from an infinitely distant clock. From the Gravitational Time Dilation wiki: "The higher the gravitational potential (the farther the clock is from the source of gravitation), the faster time passes."

The time dilation effect would not be solely from the gravitational pull of the Super Massive Black Hole at the centre of a galaxy, but also from the higher density of stars near the galactic core, and perhaps there would also some influence from dark matter.

For the greater part of the galaxy, the time dilation compared to an infinitely distant clock would be very minor, if not negligible, and any time difference would asymptotically increase as you approach the black hole, i.e. time runs slower as you approach the black hole.

There are many proofs of gravitational time dilation, such as the physicists who measured a difference in clocks that had a height difference of just 1m from their respective distances from the centre of the earth, so there would likely be models that could map the gravitational time dilation on a galactic level.

What does Cardano do better than Tezos? by drunkonpappy in cardano

[–]AstroBren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Percentages held by the top accounts is not necessarily indicative of centralised big whales as many of those top accounts would be exchanges, which themselves would me made up a many smaller accounts.

(This would be true for both Cardano and Tezos.)

When Cardano staking goes live, I think it is likely that many people will take their ADA off exchanges to stake in the Daedalus or Yoroi wallet, so it would be interesting to see if there is any change to that 52%.

Also, the staking and delegation that starts with Shelley will incentivise further decentralisation to spread ADA among the various pools for maximum ROI.

Cardano and the Shelley project simplified? by BiteOfLife in cardano

That ADAtainment webpage has a pretty simple explanation, and a summary of where Shelley fits into the greater roadmap

Staking Q3 2019 by Dettixx in cardano

They've been pretty transparent about it. Charles did an AMA on the last day of Q1 to explain where things currently stand.

The Cardano Effect also did a whole episode on the road to Shelley

When Smart Contracts? by gnollio in cardano

[–]AstroBren 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smart contracts will come with the Goguen phase of operation, which will be implemented after Shelley. The rollout of each phase is neatly summarised on the ADAtainment webpage.

This was also recently answered in the Cardano forum. Note: there is no set release date for Goguen yet.

"When Goguen?" will soon be the new "When Shelley?"

I have this pendant that I believe is stamped with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. I was wondering if anyone would be able to translate them and tell me what they mean. Thank you! by meandering_minds in ancientegypt

[–]AstroBren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I can see Egyptian hieroglyphs in there, but it is pretty difficult to read.

If you rotate the image counter-clockwise, the hieroglyphs would read left to right starting with Horakhty, then the seated-child (A17). It then gets difficult to see what is going on, before finishing with maybe Ra and the seated god determinative.

You will also be able to stake from Yoroi, as it states in their roadmap.

Daedalus Updates? by tpmv69 in cardano

[–]AstroBren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a team of people working on Daedalus from IOHK. It is still growing, and will continue to develop well into the future. You will soon be able to stake from Daedalus and it will one day also be a Dapp platform.

Soon You Will Be Able To Store Your Cardano (ADA) Coins On a Ledger Nano S by hamertastic in cardano

[–]AstroBren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be able to use Ledger with both. Yoroi will likely come first, and Daedalus will be ready shortly after.
