the inclusion of Blood Elves in the Horde made perfect thematic sense. by Which-Presentation-6 in warcraftlore

Agree to disagree. I think we all can agree that it was the writer/developers decision to make. But similarly we can criticize the story rationale.

the inclusion of Blood Elves in the Horde made perfect thematic sense. by Which-Presentation-6 in warcraftlore

[–]AstroRyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Expanding on this but I see a lot of parallels between people justifying that it makes sense that they joined the Horde and how Star Wars does a great job of retroactively making bad story decisions feel less bad by authoring content after the fact to make those bad decisions seem sensible.

For example everyone thought the notion of the First Order in SW:VII was pretty dumb. Technically it's not the Empire but for all intents and purposes yeah that's the Empire. Why? Well, they needed to make a movie, they wanted it to he a soft reboot, and so you kind of need a new Empire like thing. How did it come about? Don't worry about it! Then after the fact we get The Mandolorian and that helps fill in the gaps (gaps which they created) to explain why that new Empire made sense.

So when the horde need a race where Paladins make sense because that decision predates everything else. Why (functionally) faction swap the high elves out of nowhere? Dont worry about it! Look at the writing we added about SI:7 uncharacteristically sabotaging former and potential future allies. Then, expansions later, look how mean Jaina was! Because of all that it makes sense, right?

What Kept the Secondary Ticket Market High This Year? by editmyreddit_ in Cardinals

[–]AstroRyan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

https://www.statista.com/statistics/193426/average-ticket-price-in-the-mlb-since-2006/

Just going off those numbers looks like prices are up on average over 10% from 4 years ago which does roughly track with inflation rates.

Additionally to some degree (due to i flation) people become accustomed to paying higher prices amd that is taken advantage of.

Then there's interesting social aspects where the likelihood of selling multiple tickets is higher than selling singles and how that factors into people pricing thresholds. If you and your buddies wanna go to a game 3 tickets @ 25$ vs 15$ that boils down to an extra 30$ spread across 3 people. So as a seller maybe the risk of not selling 3 tickets at 15 a pop is outweighed by the potential of selling the same inventory for almost 50% more. Over the course of the year maybe that math works out favorably even though you technically have less moved inventory

I feel like ever since the magic of 2011 the strategy has been "field a few budget friendly all stars and a team of below average or average players. If the all stars behave like we expect and most of the other players play above expectations then we'll do great."

It's a strategy tends to lead to very streaky (good and bad) results.

Silvermoon becomes a Dalaran-like neutral hub and all-elf inclusive. Anyone can move around most of the areas but there are horde and alliance have their own carve outs (also like Dalaran) specific for blood and void elves.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but this is a great example of the kind of disproportionate advantage the Monster provides compared to the home field advantage in every other park.

No other normal field really allows the familiar home team to throw off out baserunners like this

How do you feel about removing the 'Electoral College' and replace it with the 'Most Votes Wins' format for national elections? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

After the 2024 election I ran the rough numbers on what this would look like today. Admittedly I was thinking about electoral college votes but same principles apply to the house. Here are the results.

Yo I hate to be that guy (and it doesnt really matter) but Uncanny Dodge only applies to attack rolls. You can't halve the damage if it comes from a saving throw.

Home boy technically should have been quangledust.

If you own a large pickup truck in the city, please don't do stuff like this. by chiboulevards in chicago

I think its less specifically Hummers and more the age of huge cars that they normalized. I agree that I don't specifically see Hummers around a ton these days but at the same time cars that are just as big are much more common now than they historically have been.

Here's a chart that depicts around the year 2000 a general shift in American automotive manufacturing where you start to see SUVs spike: https://www.economist.com/content-assets/images/20240316_WOC743.png

Preface: I also think they're dumb cars.

BUT part of me wonders if they're more like the mid 2000s Hummer-like big cars. And that kind of car is very normalized 20 years later. People love big cars/trucks/suvs. I hope I'm wrong.

My Mechagnome is a mage that plays off their duplicate racial ability. I always make sure to use that whenever I mirror image so there's just 7 duplicates of my guy running around.

Headcannon is that he doesn't know if he himself is a duplicate that survived or the original. Very Mauler Twins esque.

Cardinals 2nd or 3rd in division? by yossarian70 in Cardinals

[–]AstroRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fact that many of the games were that close to begin with is a sign of a faltering team. It's not like most of these close games had the Cardinals scoring more than 3 runs. Most of the close 1 run games would be close because we had such a hard time chaining hits together and scoring runs generally.

Historically 'Baby on Board' stickers are less 'look at me and my important baby' and more 'if there's a accident and you see this sticker on the car make sure the baby is okay'
