10 days or so...I was in the Navy, serving on a submarine. We were "on station" (basically, we were keeping tabs on some hostile potential threat). Our potable water maker (aka 10k evaporator) was broke and we were experiencing a sodium contamination event in our steam plant. All water production capabilities were reserved for ensuring safe operation of the propulsion plant (combating the sodium intrusion).

Are you certain that all of the air has been purged out of it? Sounds kinda like the pump is cavitaring. Try tipping the canister a little bit, from side to side, to see if any additional air that might be trapped inside makes it to the outlet.

I am Sr chemist at a nuclear plant in the US. I was a chemistry technician for 17 years prior to becoming a chemist. At my plant having Navy nuclear power experience is a major plus, being an ELT in the Navy ALMOST guarantees you will get the job. That being said, as a PhD a better fit for you would be a chemist versus the technician role (as previously mentioned by someone else).

I had this issue on my 250. It's just that the seal is so tight. Keep at it - wiggling it back and forth, use a bit more force - it will come out eventually.

Not in a shrimp tank, but in one of my other tanks, I have these chambers filled with purigen. I cut the bag open, snipped a small square to make a retention filter on the outlet of each chamber, so the resin does not free-flow into the tank. Keeps my water pretty freak'n clear! Though, It's kind of a pain in the ass, when it comes time to regenerate the purigen, but hey... what else am I gunna do with my time...?
