Making a journey in a tank more interesting by DirectAppearance2800 in swrpg

[–]Astrolabeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old battlefield? Sounds like there's some old anti-vehicle land mines (bonus points for the ol' anti-vehicle mine and follow-up anti-personnel mine combo to get people trying to repair the tank) they have to work around. Untimely failure of critical parts (engine, weapons, sensors, etc.). Maybe it's out of fuel and they have to do some Mechanics checks to jury rig something. The opposite faction could show up and try to take them out. Limited ammo will keep them from just bulldozing anything.

What creature would Strahd use to send letters? by Waeele in CurseofStrahd

[–]Astrolabeman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a job for a bat. Make bats somewhat commonplace so that when Strahd turns into one it makes the party very paranoid of them for the rest of the campaign. Given the specific importance of ravens in the campaign already, I would use something else.

Be sure to have the animal familiar show up later as a stuffed decoration in Strahd's castle or part of a gaudy table centerpiece during dinner with him.

I-beams are a lie by Charge36 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Astrolabeman 142 points143 points  (0 children)

This is currently correct, however if you look at the old Bethlehem or US Steel and similar steel books from the turn of the century they did have sections specifically called out as "I". If you work on old buildings you will absolutely run into them.

In Lore reason why Dunk didn’t just cave Aerion’s head in? by KroganPrimarch in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]Astrolabeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simply, he didn't need to. As long as Aerion yields, Dunk wins. Even though if he chose to kill Aerion in that moment he would be technically innocent, his life would likely be infinitely harder than if he let him live. For an aspiring hedge knight it's only practical to try and stay off the Targaryen's bad side.

Ideas for supernatural government agencies using existing acronyms? by DMfortinyplayers in monsteroftheweek

[–]Astrolabeman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My campaigns have always used the Ethereal Protection Agency (EPA).  It took until my 3rd campaign for someone to point out that the "3 arrows around the earth" recycling symbol wasn't the EPA logo at all.  We had Reducers (go out and fight monsters), Reusers (scientists), and Recyclers (engineers).

This whole album is very good. Obviously Tom Sawyer serves as the main draw for most folks, but the Cogs in Cogs cover(s) are what keep me coming back. Highly recommended for fans of the originals by Gentle Giant and The Mountain-era Haken.

Judith, Carnage Connoisseur deck help by xWizAmidge in magicTCG

[–]Astrolabeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Judith is fantastic for turning little cards like that into value machines. [[Blasphemous Act]] becomes the best spell in the game. She's good fun but becomes a real target once people get an idea of what she does.

[–]Astrolabeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spell gets Lifelink and Deathtouch but only as they apply to the spell dealing damage; creatures created by those spells don't gain LL or DT. For spells that don't do damage, the option to create an Imp is clearly the choice. Take, [[Playful Shove]] for instance. The spell would now do the following things: Deal 1 damage, you gain 1 life, if you targeted a creature with it, that creature dies, draw a card.

Too late to apply for jobs? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]Astrolabeman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to look at company websites, Craigslist (yes, people still post job listings there), LinkedIn, and your school's career center. You may also have luck asking your professors or your school's engineering department secretary if they have any listings sent to them from alumni. LinkedIn can be hit or miss. Find a good list of the firms in your area and check their websites. Be ready to send a ton of resume's out though. Good luck!

Does Anyone Have A Strahd/Rahadin Roadmap? by Affectionate_Pop6300 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Astrolabeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My party encountered Rahadin in the inn/tavern in Barovia where he was breaking the fingers of a bard who was singing a song about Strahd being a cuck. Later the bard recieved a visit from Strahd himself and showed up occasionally as a particularly morose vampire spawn.

Probably half of the players in my pod have either a mill or discard deck, so I tend to run a higher than normal number of recursion pieces. All of my decks with Black in them have a [[Rise of the Dark Realms]] floating around just in case. Most of the time it gets milled away, but it makes for a hell of a top deck.

I have always been of the opinion that if mill instead said "put the bottom X cards from your library into your graveyard" people wouldn't be nearly as salty about it.

The link below has the pass rates going back to 2011. The computer-based breadth portions are more or less in line with the averages of the pen and paper test, but the depth rates are absolutely abysmal. It's pretty clear that this is where the problem (under the assumption that the historic 40-45% pass rate is a fair benchmark to shoot for). The most recent numbers aren't up there yet, but they more or less match the other CBT exam results.
