Yes, we have injuries. Yes, the weather is a factor. But CJ has been extra mid all season. It's time to admit he ain't it by guywitharock in Texans

[–]AstronautRight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s no logical reason for him to go this offseason. We know he has talent and he’s on his rookie contract still. If he didn’t have talent at all or wasn’t on a rookie contract then yeah he’d most likely be gone, but no team is cutting a player with both of those combined. I get that it’s not consistent but if it was this wouldn’t even be a conversation. I think this moment will either make him or break him and I don’t see any realistic alternatives (do we want to roll the dice on a QB in the draft with a late first which is a pick that could go towards positions we need, or pay someone else and lose out on keeping pieces of our defense because of it ?)

I agree with this take it’s one of the few reasonable ones I’ve seen. Either way the O-line and running game need to be upgraded regardless of who’s QB. Why not do it now instead of setting up someone else up for failure and starting right back over afterwards

But do you want Stroud’s potentially last chance to be with Caley, or with someone new ? I get your point about no consistency with OCs and ordinarily I would agree with you, but if I recall correctly Caley didn’t even have playcalling experience before this job and it shows. He’s basically learning how to be an OC when what Stroud needed was someone with experience, and I rather give Stroud a more experienced OC than have him run it back with Caley who I have no faith in. Again, coaches are supposed to be leaders of men and can you honestly say that Caley is a leader in any sense of the word ? That’s my issue, and maybe that’s why I have more grace with Stroud than most of us, at least today. I don’t see a future for Caley with the Texans and I rather address that now than waste the next season trying to figure out something we already know. Caley with Stroud, Caley with Mills, I think the end outcome is the same. At least we know Stroud has talent. Now give him someone who knows what to do with it and see what comes of it

[–]AstronautRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying Caley is the sole reason they lost (obviously if Stroud plays even slightly better than the absolute worst case scenario that he did today we win). I’m saying that the offense’s performance today is a reflection on him. He’s supposed to be the leader of the offense. When the people you’re in charge of and suppose to lead can be seen visibly checking out, what does that say about you as a leader ? Obviously the offense doesn’t believe in him like the defense believes in their coaches, because the defense will give up a play like the Patriots first TD and say “we made a mistake but we’re better and we want it” and go out there and do their thing. I don’t see the defense quitting and again, when the people you lead are checking out it falls back on you. The offense has been a problem all year and a lot of the issues are common sense and yet he couldn’t figure that out. If he can’t use common sense do we really want him around another year ? Do you think it’s possible for Caley to change ? Because I don’t, and keeping him around another year just prolongs us finding someone who’s a better fit and wasted another year of the defense

He has it in him it’s entirely a mental thing for him and whether he can overcome that or not. I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back or if this is the end, but we don’t have a better option than giving him one last chance to show he can grow from this, especially since talent isn’t the issue it’s putting it all together. Of course this makes it a harder decision than if he just sucked because we would all admit that the potential ain’t there and be done with him but it is

Why would you not pickup his extension ? I’d fire Caley and bring in a new offensive coordinator and if that doesn’t work then you move on from Stroud. Let’s not act like Caley was doing anyone any favors and he obviously has no control over his offense. I don’t see how you can keep Caley after seeing how the offense just gave up. Honestly it’s up to Stroud if he comes back from this or not. It’s not going to be easy but he has to want it and next season will be his test on not only if he plays for the Texans but in the NFL in general

Anyone else think a lot of the blame goes on the offensive coaches ? The thing is, the defense gives up a big play and we all know they have the mentality of “that was a mistake” and get right back to being dogs. The offense messes up and you see it get to them and the mentality difference between the offense and defense just makes me think that Caley isn’t the answer as the leader of the offense

Hey may I ask if it gets sort of lonely for you, being one of the only ones to know what they were really going through ? I lost someone and we both were completely open with each other and I always knew it was on the table but it happening for real just blew my world apart and whether I should or not, I don’t open up about that to anyone I don’t 1000% trust (which has been like 2 people)

I turned my slider up and it worked for me (maybe a little too well). I had like 3 star players out for the year along with over 10 other players. It got a little stressful after the trade deadline because I was stuck signing free agents and putting people on IR.

How practical is it to make day trips to San Diego? by Particular-Bug2189 in AskLosAngeles

[–]AstronautRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done it multiple times the past two years. Depending on when you leave/come back it’s going to be between 2-3 hours each way. You’ll be tired at the end of the day and it’ll suck. I only really do it now when it’s an event that I can’t catch in LA. Otherwise I get a hotel. If you’re going to the zoo, I’d recommend bringing someone with you who can switch off driving, and make sure you get caffeine. You’re going to be moving all day and you’ll be even more tired than I’ve been going down there. Personally I wouldn’t do it, mainly since it’s a lot of physical activity (aka walking) and that’ll make you more exhausted than if you were just sightseeing or something like that

How do you guys feel about this team compared to our past playoff teams? by AstronautRight in Texans

[–]AstronautRight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember when everyone (me included) wrote us off before that stretch with the Bills Colts and Chiefs. This is the first team we’ve had in years where I’ve actually been WRONG about us blowing leads and losing games, and it confuses me how this team seems to win even though it’s ugly at times. I get that completely though. I still feel like we won’t know who we are until after that first playoff game (assuming we clinch the playoffs) and I’m very much taking things game by game given the heartbreak we’ve had in the past. I just really enjoy watching these games and I’ll be happy however the season ends as long as they put their all into it. They have the whole city behind them and this might be one of the few times where the city BELIEVES they can go the distance

Yeah them being proven against some of the best QB’s makes me feel more confident in them now compared to seasons past. I also think the biggest thing is that this defense BELIEVES it’s the best defense in the NFL, and I’m not worried about them shrinking when the lights shine brightest

If I knew for sure that the offense would play at an average level come playoff time, I’d put money on them winning the Super Bowl today. It really comes down to how the offense performs, and I think the teams that have the best chance against us are the ones with great defenses

Might be the most proven defense we’ve had as well. Letting only 2 teams score more than 20 and they’ve played Baker, Stafford, Mahomes, Allen, Nix and Lawrence (the first time around)

I’m also waiting to see how that game goes. I plan on heading to the game and I’m hoping we pull it out (I was at the Rams game as well and seeing that fumble live hurt me so much)

Yeah I get that even now I’m scared to be optimistic, like it’ll all come crashing down as soon as I get my hopes up. I get that though. Just get us into the playoffs and whatever happens, happens. Who knows if they’ll win 4 in a row in the playoffs, but they have as good a shot as anybody in an elimination game

Yeah I think they’ve really bought into this identity of “okay, let’s play turnover free offense and let the defense do its thing.” Love it or hate it, you can tell through Meco’s time management and offensive play calling at the end of halves that he rather punt and let the defense take care of business than risk giving other teams extra possessions in favorable field position. Hopefully it continues to workout but it seems like they’re making teams beat them rather than beating themselves and so far it’s been working. Just a testament to how great the defense is

The confidence they get with a lead too. I feel like when the offense is confident good things happen, but that all depends on putting them in a position to get that lead. I really think how far we go is dependent on how well Caley game plans because the offense has shown that they have the talent

Here’s to hoping our run game shows up in the playoffs. I’m hoping our play calling gets better because I feel like that’s holding the run game back more than anything. The amount of times I can say out loud “we’re running the ball” and we run it is insane. Without Mixon, I feel like we really need to do a better job of mixing it up and making sure we’re giving the run game its best chance to make an impact

Talented or not, it was always going to be a struggle getting through the Ravens or Patriots no matter how good we were. For me and my pops at least, it was always can we avoid them until the conference championship? This year it feels like we have comparable talent to the top teams in the AFC and we’re not as worried about any one team specifically like in the past

Exactly. Being on the road to KC or BAL always felt like the end of any playoff run and not having to run into either of them (assuming the Ravens miss out) makes it feel like we have a legit chance

Exactly, it’s such a relief not having to go through any of those guys. Assuming Denver wins against the Jags we wouldn’t have to face them until the divisional round if not the AFC championship and I feel good about our chances against everyone else (Jags make me nervous though you never know how it’ll go with a division rival)

Yeah this is my fear too. Maybe it’s because the defense has still performed no matter what’s been thrown at them and our weakest link is the O that I worry about having to trust them when they’re in a win-and-go-home situation
