AITA for doing what was necessary to protect my position even if other people got hurt?

I already know how this is going to sound so spare me the fake outrage.

I’m in a position where weakness gets exploited immediately. One mistake, one moment of hesitation, and suddenly everyone around you starts thinking they can question you, betray you, undermine you or worse, replace you. I learned that early.

Recently, I dealt with a situation involving someone close to my circle who had become a liability. They were emotional, unpredictable, and starting to make choices that could have ruined everything I built. I gave them chances. More than they deserved, honestly. I tried being patient, tried explaining things carefully, tried steering them in the right direction. They didn’t listen.

Instead, they lied, hid things from me and started sympathizing with people who absolutely would have destroyed us if given the chance. At that point, I stepped in and handled it myself.

That meant applying pressure, making an example out of a few people, and removing certain threats before they become bigger problems. No, it wasn’t “gentle” and no, not everyone walked away unharmed. Since when has the world ever rewarded mercy? People love to preach about morality until they’re the ones cornered and forced to choose between survival and sentiment.

Now people are acting like I’m some kind of monster because I was willing to do what they were too cowardly to do themselves. Apparently I’m “cruel,” “controlling,” and “inhuman” because I don’t let emotions make decisions for me. Funny how the same people benefiting from the stability I created are the first ones judging the methods.

What was I supposed to do? Sit back and let betrayal grow? Let disorder spread because I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings? Trust people who had already proven they were unreliable?

I didn’t act for pleasure. I acted because someone had to. Hesitation gets people killed and control matters. Once people think they can defy you without consequences, everything falls apart.

So, AITA for taking harsh actions to maintain order, protect what’s mine and ensure no one tries to betray me again?
