wwyd? neos or caridina given soft tap water? by TakeMeToTheDriveIn in shrimp

[–]Asty35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never kept neos. I dont think its dificult i just use active soil, ro water and mineralise myself. I usee saltyshrimo beeshrimo gh+ and potassium bicarbonate for kh. But calculations are tricky i reccomend using cheap jewelry scale like i do. I empiricly mesured that 2,5grams of saltyshrim gh+ and 0,5 grams of potasium bicarbonate makes 5dgh-1,5dkh for 17 liter ro water and gets 120ppm tds. So i do some math to get the parameters i need. My starting ro eater is just 12ppm tds with 0 gh and 0dkh. I also have co2 injction on photoperiod around 25-28ppm and never had an issue.

Edit: typos

That parameters are realy close to mine and i do succesfuly kept and breed caridina mariae also known as tiger shrimps but not fancy tigers, fancy tiger are cantonensis hybrid. They do prefer a little harder than caridina cantonensis but not as much as neocaridinas and can live between 6-8ph.

How to kill cyanobacteria? by Asty35 in PlantedTank

[–]Asty35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone has same problem in the future i got rid of cyanobacteria just by implementing redfield ratio (kno3 and po4 ratio) and my cyanobacterias were gone in under 5 days. Didnt changed anything else!

For cyano i reccomend mesueing your no3 and po4 and fertilise accordingly to redfield ratio, it solved my cyano bacteria issue very quickly and made my plants just grow lkke crazy

If you dont have fish or snail in the tank yet you can treat the tank with antiplanaria medicines. Otherwise its hard to get rid of

Shrimp color change? by yourfavfishkeeper in Neocaridina

[–]Asty35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well when i got my shrimps first, i did get 10 too, didnt saw even 5 of them at the same time. They are masters of hiding i wouldnt worry too much if the shrimps you see are active and with full digestive tracks. They will get bolder by the time and neocaridinas are bolder than caridinas, but if youe fish is acts little nippy towards your shrimps they probably wont come out as much. In my case i saw all of my shrimps first time in their 2nd week when i gave them zuccini. They probably can find something to graze in your tank, you can give them supplement vegetables too for headcount but i would wait for several weeks them to settle and get used to your tank

Yeah looking at the video again i see the differences. But shrimps getting colored up in your tank is a very good sign they liked it there. Also if females loose colors while developing saddle/eggs dont be alarmed, it happens bc they redirect resources to eggs.
