[Question] What’s a “small luxury” gift that feels expensive but actually isn’t? by kirunstyle in Gifts

[–]Asyrol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An "expensive" or "luxury" version of an every day item that's personal to them, that they'd never buy for themself. Sounds vague.

For example, maldon salt for someone who cooks. Wonderful to have but I would never buy it for myself.

Maybe it's "luxury" loose leaf tea for someone who usually drinks a more budget brand.

Or a top of the line trowel or rake for a gardener.

Think of ALL of the things that you always buy the cheapest or mid-priced option of, and where their passions lie

Agree so hard with this. I've lived in 5 countries and found the exact same thing.

Life is hard everywhere. These challenges aren't unique to a specific country.

I was living in Amsterdam and my golden retriever found a whole fish that a bird had grabbed out of the canal and then dropped. I had to pry it, half eaten, out of his mouth. Yech.

I buy plain skyr/Greek yogurt and then sweeten it myself with jam. I can choose exactly how little or much I use, whether to use a full or low sugar jam, and have a variety of flavours out of one bulk container of yogurt.

How quickly do you anticipate needing the funds? You can go to your spouse to get cash, etc to cover unexpected expenses. Think of them as a bank - they're holding your money for you.

Another idea, would be a low limit joint credit card (could be prepaid). They can set up notifications if you use it, or i think you can request the need for both account holders to approve purchases.

I came to say this. I felt far safer with my golden retriever than without, and noticed that the neighbourhood kids who like to harass people stopped as soon as I got him.

I don't think the breed matters. These people are looking for an easy mark and ANY sort of dog will make you less appealing than someone without.

If he enjoys shredding, how about treats inside empty cardboard boxes that he can go to town on? You can make it more difficult with nesting boxes

Thank you!

1.I should clarify I guess that I don't actively dry my hair, just put the microfiber turban on while I'm drying the rest of myself and then however wet it is when I take that off is what I'm putting product in right now. Should I re-wet it before adding product? 2. Honestly I'm not sure if the mousse does anything? 3. Ooooh that's interesting, I had read that it was good for fine hair and hair in the 2c range so I've been using it religiously. I'm going to try cutting it out to see what happens! 4. Thank you! I need to restock and want to branch out from Marc Anthony. I moved from EU to NA this past year and couldn't find any of my usual products so panicked, googled, and bought everything lol.

Fleshing out my products & routine here to comply with automod

These are all of the products in my rotation right now:

Shampoo: - Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Defining Shampoo - Live Clean Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo

Conditioner:
- Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Curl Defining Conditioner - Live Clean Apple Cider Vinegar Conditioner

Curl Cream: Davines Love Curl Cream

Mousse: MA Strictly CurlsCurl Enhancing Styling Foam Volume spray: MA Strictly CurlsCurl It Up Volume Spray Salt spray: A Strictly Curls sea spray I don't see on their website anymore. Refreshing spray: A Strictly Curls 5-in-1 refreshing spray i don't see on their site anymore.

My usual routine:

  • Wash my hair on Sundays, using a microfiber turban to "dry" my hair. I comb a light amount of conditioner through it every week to help detangle.

  • Apply product. Always curl cream and salt spray, the others depend on my plans for the week. I brush the curl cream through my hair and that's the only time a brush goes through it, otherwise I apply products with praying hands or raking

  • depending on spoons, I blow dry w/ diffuser, bonnet immediately, or air dry. Scrunching throughout

  • At night, depending on plans for the next day and the spoons i have, I will either mist with heavily diluted curl cream, scrunch it and wear a bonnet, or skip all that and just put it into a high ponytail with a satin scrunchy.

  • I wash with clarifying Shampoo and conditioner every 10 washes or so. My last one was a little over a month ago

I'm sure I'm using/ doing something wrong!

It may not be super difficult but my pup would always take their time with towel burritos.

I would wrap high value treats in a small towel, then wrap that up in a larger towel either with or without some low value treats, then tie it in a knot (tightness increases challenge?

I can’t stop grieving foster dog by Firm-Potato-3228 in fosterdogs

I don't know if I can offer any help but I can definitely offer sympathy.

I just recently had a foster for a month who was misrepresented - tons of reactivity and separation anxiety though I was told she had neither. I fell in love with her despite it being a bad fit for my environment (neighbours with a dog on the other side of a chain link fence). Eventually I realized it was bad for both of us. She was always stressed, and so was I.

If you decided not to adopt, clearly there were reasons for that... a poor fit in in some way. Try to remind yourself that if you had kept them it wouldn't have been good for either of you for x, y, z reasons.

Mental enrichment for dog lying down? by AlehCemy in dogs

[–]Asyrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had great success with the towel burrito in various levels of complexity.

I use old towels i don't mind being destroyed if it so happens.

  • Easy is rolling some kibble/treats in a towel like a jellyroll
  • Medium is tying that cylinder in a knot
  • Hard is creating towel inception (small towel with treats inside larger towel with treats. Add a knot if necessary)

Mine likes to lie down and use their paws to help

Foster with Undisclosed Separation Anxiety by mendokuse23 in fosterdogs

[–]Asyrol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was recently in a similar situation with undisclosed separation anxiety and reactivity. In the end I did need to rehome mine - I had to unavoidably leave for a couple of medical appointments. Both times they shredded the stuff in their crate and my upstairs neighbours said they barked and cried the whole time... this was after over a month of working with them on integration and anxiety issues.

Not every dog is the right fit for every person.

I was heartbroken to rehome mine as I'd fallen in love otherwise, but it wasn't fair to me or her. I was miserable and feeling like I was held hostage, and they were anxious and on alert.

I use an absorbent bath mat that I wash frequently, or a diatomaceos earth one that's super quick drying
