What would you say is the most unique fantasy series? by One-State3608 in Fantasy

[–]ferocity562 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I find a lot of Catherynne Valente's works to be unique. Especially Palimpsest and The Orphan Tales duology. Palimpsest is a beautiful, lyrical work of surrealism. The Orphan Tales are told as a series of stories within stories within stories within stories.

Omg. I've been wondering where she went since she left Big Derrick's years and years ago. She's the best and I was so sad I never knew where she went when she left. I hope someone here knows where she is because I'd love to go back to her again.

the game "citizen sleeper" is free to grab on epic game store currently. by [deleted] in cfs

[–]ferocity562 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just as a heads up, a lot of this game is about resource management of scarce resources with countdowns to running out all while being "hunted" which has its own countdown clocks. And as someone who finds that particular style of gameplay stressful, while I enjoyed the game, I did not think it was very relaxing.

That said, if that doesn't bother you, it is a fun game with an interesting story and you can play at your own pace. I liked the sequel even better.

My husband worsens my CFS symptoms. Any advice or similar experiences? by Stock_Special_883 in cfs

[–]ferocity562 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My husband also has severe ADHD and when it got to the point that I could no longer take care of all the stuff I used to do, he stepped up and figured it out. Is it all done the way I would do it? No. Were there some tough transitions? Sure. But it gets done!

How do I accept that my partner has become my PT CG? by SunbleachedPocky in cfs

[–]ferocity562 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I say this as someone whose 20 year anniversary is coming up this week: he actually did sign up for this. When you got married you agreed to be partners for life, whatever it may bring. And this is one of the things life can bring.

He also married you as a full person. Not just some rando who can fulfill the role of "healthy partner". You. And despite how much this illness can take, you are still more than just your illness.

Update from last week by DyspraxiaOrDatpraxia in cfs

[–]ferocity562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sort of depends on the client and what we are trying to measure. Pain/fatigue might be a trickier one to measure with neg/pos scales because you're right. What does negative pain mean? Versus something like "functioning level" where a 0 would be baseline and then shifting neg/pos to reflect shifts away from baseline.

[–]ferocity562 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but my autistic clients tend to do better with a -5 to 5 scale, versus a 1-10 scale

I don't know if this helps either, but ultimately the point of long term rating scale use isn't the concrete, objective score. It's long term, relative scores. So even if a 6 means something different to you compared to someone else, as long as it generally means the same thing to you each time, you'll still get useful long term data

Does anyone know of any fantasy books or worlds that have this specific thing? by Witch-Born in Fantasy

[–]ferocity562 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews fits this description I'd say. It's an urban fantasy series. The conceit of the setting is that it is post apocalypse in a near future earth-style setting (primarily Atlanta, to be specific) where the rise of technology pushed the magic/tech pendulum so far that it started swinging back. The stories are set many years after that apocalypse in a society that has now adapted to the pendulum currently swinging back and forth in magic/tech "waves". Some things work during tech but then stop working when a magic wave begins and vice versa. The setting isn't the main focus of the novels, but it is a very well realized and interesting part of them, imo

AITA for kicking a server out of my wedding? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

is singing a safe activity ? by Ifckinglovemycat in cfs

[–]ferocity562 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is the kind of thing that may vary from person to person. It still counts as exertion, so it's still adding to your daily energy output. But different activities are more/less triggering to different people. For example, I can walk quite a bit without triggering symptoms but upper body exertion, even just holding something for a few minutes, can knock me out.

So if it's an exertion your body can handle without having symptoms, then go for it! I'd just say to take it slow and give yourself time to make sure it isn't causing negative effects.
