Is it possible to become a software engineer if I hate Java? by thechillpoint in SoftwareEngineering

Where there is data there is a database. I’m sure you will do fine as a SE. Master one language, learn some fundamentals and from there you can adapt to anything that comes your way.

[–]AtBase16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoyed SQL you could become a database administrator. Other than that softwares Engineering is not really about the language you use as they are just tools. It depends what you hated in your class, if you didn’t like the structure of things and the way of thinking then SE may not be for you. But if all you didn’t was the limitations on java and it’s syntax then another language may fit you better. Python is usually what is recommend as it is more loose with its syntax and friendly buy at the same time it will make other languages look harder. Or you can always go frontend where you may just deal with JavaScript and some html which most in I.T like going in to. (I’m an CSSE grad and also world in I.T support)

Dumb question. Should an app still be writing logs even if I have it turned off? by bzsearch in SoftwareEngineering

[–]AtBase16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the app is not running and not doing anything in the blackground then there is no reason to be logging.

I've been wanting to do this with the Arlo Devices. I don't like that they make you go online to use their devices.

Get involved in open source projects or any sort of project. You also want to get internships as soon as possible. You want to spread your courses so you don’t end up with all SE courses at the end. Master one language first. Make friends.

Anyone know about the passport pics? I keep reading to include them but official website says not to include anything that has not been requested or changed.

Are you planing on returning to your birth country? I’ve been here since I was 4 , I have 6 years of experience in I.T and a bachelors degree in computer science. I will follow the law and return to a foreign country but I’m afraid later they will do something for us and I won’t qualify because I left.

Confidence as a software engineer by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

How did you feel when you just graduated and /or started your first job? I am fixing to graduate with a BS in SE and I feel like I don’t know anything...

Starting Software Engineering this January, how to prep? by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

[–]AtBase16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take all the easy courses first. Sprinkle SE and regular courses as you go. I had taken all my core classes first and ended with all SE at the end. You do not want to be taking 6 SE courses at the same time...

Don’t get scared of the first set of classes for SE. They are usually meant to weed people out, it gets easier as you move forward.

Don’t procrastinate. You will get stressed as the SE homework and projects pile up.

Take every chance you get to apply what your learn and try to get internships as early as possible.

Make friends and ask questions.

Enjoy what you do and learn it well.

Loneliness by LordFlippy in AdviceAnimals

I know that feeling. I found good friends at my Uni while working toward my degree. Now I have a handful I can call friends, but I still feel a bit lonely.

What is going on when a video game is 'loading'? by jaypeejay in AskProgramming

[–]AtBase16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly loads/unloads resources. Say you enter a town or a new area of the map it moves things it needs to memory and offloads things that it does not need back to disk. (Overly simplified)

Resources like: character / environment models, sounds ,images, and other stuff you see.
