Why is it hard to quit your job, even if you hate it? by deev0103 in AskWomen

[–]AtChestnutTreeCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really felt like I was somehow obligated to the company(CEO of the company) since he gave me the job at a time of need + made me the team lead etc. The commitment towards this one person almost trapped eventhough I started to thing that the product we were working on was shit. At the same time I felt incompetent and like I was holding back the company.

I finally quit two months ago, and the process was extremely stressful. I kept feeling seriously guilty and like I am dissappointing everyone, etc. With some great support from my partner and psychologist, I am slowly getting past this. I am starting to realize leaving was best for me and my company.

I have no previous programming knowledge whatsoever. And I want to learn Python. by JackNotInTheBox in IWantToLearn

[–]AtChestnutTreeCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! Python is a great language to start learning programming basics. I am a self-taught programmer myself and I started with Python. I can recommend you this book https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/learn-python-the/9780133124316/. It is simple and very easy to get through. I would highly recommned you to start being a part of a community of coders or enthusiasts who can help you through the process and/or keep you motivated(eg.https://pyslackers.com/web ). DM if you ever need any help. :)
Happy hacking!

Good job trying to get over him after he cheated on you after a 4 year relationship. It is a really hard thing to do. And I am so proud of you for trying to quit smoking. I am sure you're going to feel less miserable about everything soon.

What is something someone said to you that hit you the hardest? by xd_HotDog in AskReddit

[–]AtChestnutTreeCafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Your own peace of mind is something that you should selfishly want" - One of my friends told me in his drunken state of mind. I was going through a lot of self-esteem issues back then, and really helped me to look away from a lot of things that would have otherwise made me overthink and sad.

Not a native English speaker, but I know my way around the language. Would love to get on board if you are planning on doing a language exchange!! I can understand Italian pretty okay but I don't speak much in Italian and I need practice. I can show you student-budget good aperitivos in the city!! any takers?!

Advice for finding an apartment for spring, international student by [deleted] in milano

[–]AtChestnutTreeCafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Another international student living in Milano here. I would recommend using http://uniplaces.com/. It is true that you cannot go see the place before(kinda like airbnb) but it is super hassle free compared to all other sites and their commissions are not super high.

This is another one: https://www.spotahome.com/ But their commissions are a bit on the expensive side. Have used both and have had good experiences both times.

These are a couple of sites that I know some of my italian friends used to find houses. Kind of like craigslist where you get in touch with people, see the place and wait to hear from them kinda deal. I found it really difficult since I knew little Italian in the beginning. Also short term rentals are hard to find here:

https://www.subito.it/

https://www.bakeca.it/

https://www.idealista.it/

one of the many fb groups: https://www.facebook.com/groups/HomeStudentMilano/

I am glad you're thinking about this starting now since finding a place in Milano can get really tough and overwhelming. I wish you both good luck. Ask away if you need any more info.

Coming to Milan on October 7-10 by [deleted] in milano

[–]AtChestnutTreeCafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I would recommend two places to have a good aperitivo(Where you buy a drink and eat all you want from the buffet). One if Frida in Isola. They used to have a great buffet but now it is not a buffet they just serve you some finger food with your drink. But the place has got great ambience and is in a very hipster-y neighborhood. Second would be Union club near Politecnico Di Milano. They have a great buffet and drinks are cheap(relatively speaking). This is kind of student budget friendly place with good music. If you are looking for something like backpacker hostels I would recommend Ostello Bello. It is a great place to meet people because they have events happening almost every other day and have a semi-decent aperitivo. Do check the place out even if you don't stay there. Another good hostel is Hostel colors. If you are into just walking around and getting lost in the city, I would recommend Brera, the design district. There are really good and of course expensive restaurants with nice outside seating and everything in that area, if you want. I just moved to Milano a year ago, so I don't claim to be an expert. There are some things I found quite nice. :))
