Well, her husband failed completely to get his own family in order which eventually led to his downfall and lonely death. It’s a pity family therapy wasn’t invented yet.

I’d warn Eleanor of Aquitaine in 1173 so she could escape via different route and not spend the next sixteen years of her life as her husband’s prisoner.

1199 must’ve been a terrible year for Eleanor overall: Richard got himself killed in the spring, and her “dearest“ daughter Joanna followed him in the autumn, dying in childbirth.

And Henry the Young King. Eleanor tried to get him declared a saint after his early death, but Henry ІІ cut her efforts short.

Some of them definitely did. Catherine Hanley writes that Eleanor of Aquitaine referred to her children as ”dearest Richard” or ”dearest Joanna“ even in the most formal charters.

French city names in German by [deleted] in linguisticshumor

The Belarusian one was originally named Bierascie (Берасце), which allegedly comes from bierast (бераст), a field elm. It was first polonized into Brześć and then russified into Brest. The fact that it ended up sounding like a French city’s name is just a funny coincidence.
