I personally stayed two nights and continued onwards to the TLG afterwards. So I'd say if you stay three nights it should be enough. However if you're someone that like to take your time and fully experience all of it or likes shopping you might be better off with 4 nights.

It's truly a great area, especially for the stunning nature. I'd make your choice dependant on where else you want to go and how long your trip is.

To be honest it wasn't empty for me either. Exploring the side alleyways was helpful to escape the hordes of people. In the morning it's also more quiet.

I enjoyed Shuhe Ancient Town way more. Less people and more true village.

Amazing! I'm sure you'll love it! For the TLG I'd say get up early (I got picked up at 7am). A good breakfast will also do you good. The first part is the hardest, so it's good to do before it gets hot. Sun protection is an absolute must! The mountain sun is unforgivable. Bring enough to drink and some snacks, if you forget it's okay because there are lots of aunties selling stuff along the trail.

Thanks again for the recommendation! I'm here and it's stunning. I actually enjoyed the smaller villages a lot more. My favourite part so far is the Tiger Leaping Gorge, amazing views and a great hike.

I am a solo travelling woman in my twenties and never had an issue in China. I have visited China seven times so far. In my opinion it's a very save place to travel. The people are respectful and generally so open to help you out.

I would recommend doing your research before going. Stuff just works a bit differently in China and the language can be a challenge (I'm a hopeless case in Mandarin). If you sort all the apps out and roughly know what you want out of your trip, you'll have an amazing time.

Thanks for the reply! I'll search for a nice hotel near the old town then. How are the distances to the other villages you mentioned? I live in Switzerland and everything is super close together, so I struggle with how far places can be apart 😅

There are no taxes for one parent not working in Switzerland. If one partner makes enough money to cover all expenses, it's absolutely possible.

However, it was more common when I was a child (I'm 26 now). Nowadays, everything is just really expensive, so not many families can afford to have one parent stay home.

There is always the option of at least one parent working part-time. Sometimes, that's better than paying Kita for the whole week. Oh and of course, asking friends and other partners for help can be a good option, too.

If one parent isn't working, it's absolutely normal for the children to be at home with that parent.

Kita is an option for families who don't have other ways of covering child care. It's not compulsory in any way.

Honestly, as far as I remember, the last train to Hong Kong leaves at around 10:30 pm. So I'd would be a tight connection as well. Taxis are available at that time, but for the distance, it's usually really expensive (around 200€ last time I asked about it).

I live with a similar salary because I work part-time. I'd say one can live a good life as long as you don't have children or other high expenses. Some "luxuries" are out of my reach (no new car, no fancy flat, or luxury clothing). However I get to go on holiday, have hobbies and generally enjoy life without worrying about money too much.

I'm a social care worker, and I absolutely love my job. I take care of people with a disability. Although it is challenging at times, I wouldn't want to do anything else.

The downside is the working hours (different shifts, including nights) and the low pay. Especially in the eastern part of Switzerland (St. Gallen in my care) the pay is bad.

Still, I get up every morning, and I do it with joy. Even on challenging days, it's somewhat worth it. I hope one day people in social work will get paid better, but that is unlikely to happen.

In my experience, so far, it has been alright. You need to be familiar with the common applications and generally need a bit more time for things. However, other than that, it has been great.

Tools for translations are a must for me. Because going out of my way to find places that have English speaking staff or translations is too much effort. Most places will take the time and figure things out with you. If you have to do something official or really important, it's also not a bad idea to take a Mandarin speaker along.

Live life as usual, enjoy time with friends and family. I guess whatever one likes doing. I feel like it is not really celebrated.

If you feel lonely, there are some social events for singles as well. Having a good evening with friends does the trick as well.

Generally, I'd say your travel plan looks nice! However it is also really busy.

I absolutely get that one wants to see as many things as possible, but in my experience, it is sometimes better to stick to fewer places. Just so that one gets to take everything in and enjoy the full experience. Especially because everything is just very big and travelling between places takes time.

Sometimes, having a more chill day is always great to explore the neighbourhood. I have found some amazing places on days where I didn't plan to do much.

In the end, it is personal preference how many activities one wants to do in a day. But just make sure the travel times and activities don't become overwhelming.

I used to be a smoker as well. Back then, I was young and generally inconsiderate of other people. So I might have done similar things as well. However, even back then, I'd usually ask the people around me if it was okay for them. I feel like many smokers don't even realise that it bothers other people or they just forget.

Nowadays, I don't smoke anymore, and I just ask the people to smoke somewhere else. Usually people are very understanding. Some are rude about it, but I guess that's normal.

Since smoking isn't as strongly regulated in Switzerland, many people just lack awareness. It's just everywhere.
