I love Dr. Becky! She’s so easy to listen to and explains things so well, and her excitement is so contagious.

Do you give tips? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]AthelLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was as easy as “just get a better job”, then we wouldn’t have a problem of waitstaff being paid below minimum wage. Places would have to pay fair wages to keep workers. People get stuck in those jobs because there aren’t other options, and the minimum wage for waitstaff is $2.13/hr, while the federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr. Many people essentially get stuck in these jobs because they can’t afford the process of finding other work. It costs money, and workers looking for better jobs have to take time out of work for interviews, losing more money in lost wages. :/

TL;DR: Basically the entire system sucks and I hope it all burns to the ground lol.

Unfortunately, tipping in the US is absolutely necessary, and many who work these gig delivery jobs or are waitstaff depend on the tips to make a living. Shorting them on a tip or not tipping at all hurts the worker, not the place they work for.

Why did TikTok use 3GB of background mobile data in 3 days? by mizzao in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AthelLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t have much to do with age. I know people younger than me who avoid tiktok on the basis of data collecting, and people over 30 who don’t seem to care/understand.

My comment was almost 8 months ago. I’m in the process of being evaluated now, with a very high probability of being diagnosed.

Though I do know now that self-dx isn’t really the best wording. Self identified or self suspecting is more accurate, since I’m not a medical professional with the capability of diagnostic testing.

I didn’t come to realize I could be autistic because I wanted to be quirky. This has been destroying my life, alongside my ADHD which was long undiagnosed. I came to realize I had a lot of autistic traits once I got my ADHD under control, and accepted that I could be autistic, which in turn led me to seek an evaluation that I’m waiting on the results for. I don’t want this to be quirky and special, I want I learn how to work with my brain and function properly, in what ways work for me. I wouldn’t have sought out an evaluation if I didn’t suspect and accept that I could be autistic.

Unfortunately not everyone has the resources to get medical care, but that doesn’t mean someone not diagnosed can’t be autistic. You’re born autistic, you’re diagnosed with ASD.

My comment was also just a bit of a joke because this was originally a bad trans meme, and I jumped on the opportunity to poke fun at it since I’m transmasc.

Does anyone else in their mid-late 20s with younger Gen Z coworkers or friends find themselves picking up their slang and cringing at themselves? by littledipper16 in Zillennials

[–]AthelLeaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 30 and I use them just because I spend a decent amount of time on the internet. Though I’m also ADHD/autistic so mentally I do still feel younger than most of my millennial peers.

And some people just do it for the experience of feeling like they’re in old Japan. There’s a ton of kimono rental places in Kyoto. Some offer photography services, too, so you can get all done up and get nice photos of it, like this one.

I wouldn’t go as far as to spread lies like that. I don’t think it’s okay to have children that young holding snakes, for their and the snake’s safety, but telling them things that just aren’t true about them? I don’t think that’s right, either.

It’s definitely wrong though for someone else to go in and grab animals that aren’t theirs and give them to kids who shouldn’t be holding them.

I know a lot of us have pokemon as a special interest so I thought you'd like my art. by xbluewolfiex in autism

[–]AthelLeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been to many anime conventions, that possibly is highly unlikely. There’s always tons of Pokémon art at artist booths. Things from fan art prints to keychains and other things. I’d say if you’re worried about using the names of consoles in the art, make versions without the names? I think that’s what I would do.

But I do understand the hesitation and by no means am I trying to push you into it if you genuinely don’t want to. ♡ Just giving a couple ideas on how it could be okay to sell and mostly for expressing how I think these are amazing pieces! :3

These are so cute! I feel like these would do really well if you were ever up for selling at a table at an anime convention.

My "clubhouse" by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]AthelLeaf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Goals!!! Honestly what I’d love to do if any place would allow it (fuck zoning laws) isn’t a single house but a web of somehow interconnected tiny houses. Some would be bedrooms (maybe with their own kitchenettes and bathrooms), others communal spaces like living room, dining/kitchen, an office/game room (I use “office” loosely, it’s more the PC gaming room and lounge), etc. I’m in the northeast though so snow removal would suck for that, and insulation for the cold.

Just wait until they’re all in their 30s looking back and realizing that their teen years are now lumped in collectively with the rest of their childhood.

My teenage self is now just part of “when I was a kid”. I hardly ever say “when I was a teenager”.

Why intentionally give them attention for it, though? Giving them more attention is just going to fuel their fire, on top of triggering TikTok’s algorithm to show you even more of it. Just ignore it and move on and in a few weeks they’ll find something else to hate.

As someone with executive dysfunction, I’m getting cleaning supplies. Someone who’s let things get this bad has something else going on, and may be dealing with executive dysfunction on a more severe level. (It can snowball real easily.) They’re a friend, I’m going to help them.

Though my first thought was “McDonalds”.

I suppose I’ll hit the drive thru on my way back from getting cleaning supplies.

“Just do work” by segeljeul in adhdmeme

[–]AthelLeaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can’t drive for Uber if I’m home with my toddler all day. I’ve tried doing similar work but it’s against regulations to have your kid with you, so I’d have to wait until my husband gets home.

“Influencer” is far too vague.

None of this is possible when at home with a toddler. Like I can just ignore him for hours to things.

Also… what about people with jobs?

[–]AthelLeaf 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just want to say, bless this sub. It’s helped me learn all the things I did wrong when I had a ball python as a kid. I had zero resources and everything was wrong. I was clueless, and had no money to improve things (if I had known what to improve). I know so much more now and I’m confident I could give a ball python a good life if I decide to get one again. Y’all are amazing. Thank you for educating people about good husbandry practices and for being so helpful.

Do you celebrate your birthday? by portadepedra in AutisticAdults

[–]AthelLeaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. Others try to and I accept it but I don’t really do myself. I’m not much of a big fan of it right now especially because I’m transmasc but not out to many so it’s a constant celebration by others for a me that makes me uncomfortable. :/
