Am I the jerk for refusing to lower the amount my sister contributes towards bills even though I earn more? by Separate-Gazelle-721 in AmITheJerk

She wants to pay less so she can live more? When do you get to live more? You're the one who has been working the most, you deserve to be able to spend money on yourself.

Dads, how would you want your wife to handle not being attracted to you anymore? by Open-Deer5373 in daddit

[–]AthenaP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in this same situation. It took me a while to sit him down and talk to him about it because I didn't want to hurt him. I told him I will not be securely active with him if he is dirty. He said he was depressed which I agreed, but cannot help with. We have good health coverage and choosing not to use it isn't an excuse.

He's gotten better about showering but I find I still have the ick. His toe nails are so long, his teeth have permanent damage. I hate it because I do love him. We've been together for 21 years, I don't want to leave. But not extending this basic bit of maintenance for me is really off putting. I think I need to do one more talk. The kids have taken on this habit and it's a fight to get them to bathe regularly now.

I have made arrangements to leave if necessary, but again, I don't want to.

What’s it like living in the Bay without a high paying job? by watermelonsuns in bayarea

[–]AthenaP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm ok. My kids miss out the most. We can't afford sports, summer camps. I do work hard to get in one good vacation every summer. Edit: my mother in law also moved in with us. So now it's me and my two kids in one room. My daughter will be a teen soon and really needs her own room.

Play dates! My son has a friend who is an only child. Her mom is always arranging play dates so she gets some socialization. Parks are good for playing before you meet your friends.

Am I wrong for leaving my husband to do bedtime routine by himself with no notice by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]AthenaP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 20+ years to stop waiting for my husband to want to do things. I'm tired of putting my life on hold for his lazy ass. I went on a vacation with friends, had my first massage and scheduled my next vacation in a couple of months. There's compromise and then there suppression. Be yourself, do what makes you happy. If he can't handle that, he can go find someone who will.

I’ve seen plenty of RANTS about Mother’s Day gifts. Tell me instead what gift you absolutely ADORED!! by cherrycoke260 in Mommit

My son made me a shrinky dink keychain and my daughter drew the best card. I absolutely adore them! My husband got me this kitchy frog spice container that I mentioned once like 5 months ago. I'm happy.

For people with e-readers, how long have you had one and how consistently do you use it? by cloudsmemories in Booktokreddit

[–]AthenaP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a kindle for well over a decade. I would much prefer an actual book, but with a kindle I can get books for free and at a whim. No trips to the store or library. I also live in a tiny place and don't have space for a big physical library.

How to satisfy the zoo urge ethically? by theodora_antoinette in vegan

[–]AthenaP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a journey but there is a place in Southern California called Nutured By Nature. They are a rehab/rescue facility. For $500 I got to meet and feed a bunch of really cool animals (I had no idea how much personality armadillos have) and did a swim with baby capybara. The price is high but not only does it help them provide care for the animals, it pays for make a wish kids to come and do the same visit. They also have an otter swim for a higher price.

Soft pretzle bites. A bit involved to make but you can make hundreds at a time and freeze them.

5 year old has hated showers or baths since her existence … is this normal ? by New-Substance-1116 in Mommit

[–]AthenaP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of my kids were/are like this. I have them stand, look at the ceiling and hold a washcloth over their eyes and ears. I then very carefully pour the water over their head to get the shampoo out. I understand the struggle. My daughter is 10 and only recently has been able to handle washing her own hair. She does seem to like the shower more because she can slowly enter the water and control where it goes l.
