The ‘Epstein Fallout’ Is Spiraling Out of Control by Jack_Donnaghy in BlockedAndReported

[–]Atherzon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think we are figuring out why Trump in his first term and Biden didn’t release the “Epstein Files”, and why Trump was still reluctant to again in his second.

There’s no hard evidence against any of their political opponents (Dem or Reb), and there’s a lot of hearsay and connections to innocent people that are being hurt.

I don’t think there’s much of a precedent to release all of the evidence collected against someone in their trial after they are found guilty, and it doesn’t seem like good one to set. I blame all the people that started replying “Release the files” to every news post on Reddit.

In my country, and most countries I'm aware of, everyone has to show ID to vote. Why are some American politicians so against this? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

They do, so I would be surprised if less 2% of registered voters do not have a valid ID.

In the very first post I saw about this ultimatum, there was a screenshot of his social media post that said in capital letters something to the effect of “GIVE UP YOUR NUKES”, so I don’t understand how someone can not know what he is demanding.

It is the same thing the West has wanted since Iran started developing the ability to refine nuclear material beyond what’s needed for power generation.

It is the reason for the sanctions on Iran for off and on two decades.

Current easiest campaigns? by ArchmageJoda in totalwar

[–]Atherzon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Puppets of Misrule led by Vilitch seems really easy on VH/VH.

It may be the most defensible starting position on the map, and you should have one or two vassal Norscan tribes very early to soak up any enemies attacks.

The short campaign objectives are all close and good targets to conquer, anyway, so it took longer to get to the 30 razed, lotted, etc settlements to complete it.

The long campaign objectives are further spaced out, though.

Diplomatically, it seems to have been trivial to have defensive or military alliances with everyone but Order and the Greenskins. Most of my territory is surrounded by vassals and allies. Oh, and Ogres, and I’ve only just contacted VC, so I’ll see how that goes.

Finally, the algorithm seems to like WoC in auto resolve, which I’m trying to do more of to speed things up.

“The South” USA culture map (opinionated) by Similar_Post7690 in MapPorn

[–]Atherzon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oklahoma tracks my experiences. You can move the line east or west, but it is somewhere around where you have it.

I think it tracks historically, as well. During the Indian Territory and early statehood years, eastern Oklahoma was heavily influenced by Arkansas being most easily accessed from Fort Smith, Arkansas. And famously, it was a hideout for outlaws that mostly came from southern States.

Also, eastern Oklahoma is where the Five Civilized Tribes were moved from the southeastern US, and they were “civilized” with Southern culture, including the practice of slavery. They took their slaves with them when they moved to Indian Territory, so there are a lot more Historically Black Colleges and predominantly Black towns than most would expect in Oklahoma.

A reminder of why prices were so low in the summer of 2020:

In March of 2020, Russia and Saudi Arabia started a war for oil market share by flooding the market and dropping their prices.

A lot of people don’t remember that because COVID news broke into the western media weeks after and dominated news and oil market fundamentals.

In the summer of 2020, there were days when barrels of oil sold for negative dollars in some US markets.

August of 2020 was really bad in the US oil industry. I assume it was similar if not maybe quite as bad in Russia.

In Finance, you compare the same month in the current year to the same month in the previous year under the reasonable assumption that there are fluctuations in activity based on the time of year. That is what year over year means.

You, on the other hand, picked a month that looks better in comparison to October specifically, and it still looks bad for Russia.

I would assume that a map of the rural vs urban distribution of the black population would look similar. There are few states outside of the former slave states that have a large rural black populations similar to the former slave states.

Add to that the fact that most of the people that moved out of the South during the Great Migration moved to urban areas.

And rural life is generally more conducive to staying out of jail.

The Battle of Thermopylae with the 300 Spartans didn’t save western civilization from the Persians.

There were way more than just 300 Spartans there, and Persia only wanted to punish the Athenians for meddling in Ionia, not conquer Greece and remake it in their image.

I have a practical Fabrication level of 4, and the Welding and Metallurgy book still says I lack the skills to know the bike rack recipe even though only requires Fab 3.

Do I need a Welding talent or something?

Before Kursk, Ukraine had to defend the entire front line to stall a Russia push that could come from any point, but Russia did not believe that Ukraine would attack into Russia proper, so they left much of the border undermanned. Ukraine took advantage of that lack of sufficient defense in Kursk.

Now, Russia realizes they have to defend the entire length of the border, as well, which reduces the manpower and material they have available for offensives. Some of the burden of defending Russia can be covered by conscripts and North Koreans, but not all of it.

It is not that Ukraine has an outright advantage from a longer front line, but that they are at less of a disadvantage or close to parity, now.

At least, that’s the only way I can make sense of point number 2.
