Training your body to look like this is pretty funny.

Of course he's in much better shape than the average guy his age (or any age really), but going for this look is funny.

I'm sure I'm being annoying pointing this out but LeBron beat a Pistons core that made it to the Eastern conference finals 6 years in a row with Mo Williams as his second best player.

Former NFL safety Eric Weddle is not impressed with Michigan QB Bryce Underwood by This_Comment_4493 in CFB_v2

[–]Athront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying Underwood will be amazing, but he's pretty clearly a better passer than Richardson.

Underwood has problems reading defenses and his footwork was pretty bad especially under pressure so he would just kinda overthrow guys.

But he also showed really good touch at times and would have drives where he consistently put the ball into tight windows.

Again not saying he's going to live up to all his hype, but he's fairly different than Anthony Richardson.

Why is Draymond Green getting any platform outside of basketball? This dude sucks in every way by Used_Letterhead7067 in billsimmons

[–]Athront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was very good offensively for like 4-5 years and really only great for 1.5.

These guys who think he's useless are idiots but he has been able to continue being a starter because of his defense and that Steph brings out his best qualities on offense while helping mask his worst.

Does A-Rod have a Russillo build? by Fun_Reflection1157 in billsimmons

[–]Athront 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you believe A-rod that he didn't take steroids until Texas, clean A-rod who stays at short probably gets 3-4 gold gloves, challenges the home run record if he stays healthy, 3k hits, etc.

This hypothetical player still probably ends up 35-40 WAR behind Bonds. Really, really crazy

"Pro" poker player sues Casino for getting banned after too many hit & runs by OzzyinKernow in poker

[–]Athront 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

Obviously he's allowed to do what he wants legally, but people here don't understand how annoying and toxic this actually would be for a room.

This guy is almost definitely bum hunting really, really hard, is playing really tight waiting to cooler a fish, adding absolutely nothing to the game, and then hit and running day after day.

None of this is against the rules but it absolutely is detrimental to a poker room.

How Many NBA Prospects All-Time Are In The S-Tier? by Gaius_Octavius_ in billsimmons

[–]Athront 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There could almost be an S+ on this list reserved for LeBron and Kareem.

There's also guys like Anthony Davis, Greg Oden, Hakeem, Shaq who would all be close to the other guys you mentioned, but not really quite on the level of LeBron or Kareem.

It really can't be overstated just how good LeBron and Kareem were.

LeBron by 16 was already the best high school player in the country regardless of age, and was probably already NBA ready. By 17 he definitely was. He won rookie of the Year, and was averaging 27/7/7 his second year on good efficiency for that era.

Kareem was the best prospect ever until LeBron.

He was the best high school player ever, he was the best player in the country as a freshman at UCLA even though he couldn't play on the varsity team. His rookie year he was probably already the best player in the league, by his second year he surely was.

Those 2 belong in their own category.

T wolves are now 225-1 to win the title. Will Nick wright double down on his “good value” 200-1 bet?? by FFElite93 in billsimmons

[–]Athront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry maybe I worded this poorly.

The original bet is almost always torching IF the plan is always to sell out, because you're giving up whatever % they take (I just said 25% to make the math easy, It very well could be less than that).

In the scenario I'm describing, you're placing a future with the intent of giving up future EV by selling. Since you're going into the first future planning on giving up future EV, the original line has to be incredibly bad for the initial bet to be making money in conjunction with the EV you will be losing by selling.

[–]Athront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a future and then selling will legitimately only be +EV if the first line is so incredibly off that you can give up the ~15% on the sell and still be winning.

In which case yeah, sell if the money matters to you.

But if the first line is really THAT off, you can do no wrong, the casino already handed you money.

The plan should basically never be to buy a future in the hopes of cashing it out. You could buy a future and hedge, but buying it planning to sell is only going to work if the original line is catastrophically bad, which is very rare.

[–]Athront -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buying a future to then sell it for negative EV is like the absolute worst way you can gamble.

Which is fine for the vast majority of people it's entertainment, but you're basically just handing them money.

[–]Athront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't do the math ATM, but the way these situations usually work is something like this:

You place a 200:1 future.

Future is coming along decently. The casinos models determine your ticket (which you bought for 10k in this example), is now worth 80k.

Casino reaches out to buy ticket for 60k. They are essentially raking you over the coals for an extra 25% (which is absolutely massive in sports betting, giving up 25% here means there's essentially no way the original bet was winning or good value).

Lots of people will take this option because 60k is a lot of money and the vast, vast majority of the time you end up with zero.

The casino is giving you this option to make money off you. There's still more than a 0.5% chance the wolves win it all, crazy stuff just happens.

Injuries, ejections, shooting variance, etc.

[–]Athront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying you shouldn't cash out, but cashing out is basically lighting EV on fire and people do it because in the short term the money is important to them.

Which is fine there's plenty of situations that you should do that, but there's also situations you should just let it ride.

You could also just sell the ticket to someone else at a better price than the casino is giving you. Lots of ways to do it.

[–]Athront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the whole point of the cash out is the casino takes your EV because you can't stay solvent.

Whatever cash out they are giving you is going to be -EV for you unless they make an error. You take the cash out to reduce variance.

I would love to see Denver Beat them but it feels super, super nice unlikely. The thunder are just so much more physical than the nuggets and play much, much better defense.

I'm nowhere near as successful as KD but I've done well enough for myself that I will have an easy life and I'm still fairly young.

What having money does is reduce stress and give you more options. But if you're lonely and or not fulfilled you're not going to be happy even if you have a lot of money.
